Our adventure begins with a flight from Dar es Salaam into the remote wilderness of Katavi National Park, one of Tanzania’s wildest and least-visited parks. Katavi offers a raw, untamed safari experience that few places can match. After arriving and settling into our lodge, we’ll embark on an afternoon game drive through the park’s vast floodplains and open woodlands. Katavi is renowned for its huge buffalo herds and large lion prides, and with so few vehicles in the park, each sighting feels intimate and exclusive. As evening approaches, we return to the lodge for a hearty dinner, surrounded by the sounds of the African bush.

Today is all about exploring Katavi’s diverse landscapes, from the wide open plains of the Katisunga floodplains to the tangled woodlands where leopards and other predators lurk. Katavi’s rivers and pools draw some of the largest concentrations of hippos and crocodiles in East Africa, and we’ll likely see them packed together in impressive numbers. Elephants, giraffes, and antelopes roam freely, while birdwatchers will be thrilled by the park’s vibrant avian life. We’ll break for a picnic lunch, surrounded by this wild, secluded paradise, and continue our game drive into the afternoon before heading back to the lodge.

On our last morning, we’ll enjoy one final game drive, capturing any last glimpses of Katavi’s unique wildlife and landscapes. As we make our way back to camp for breakfast, there’s a sense of awe at the raw beauty we’ve witnessed. Later, we’ll catch our flight back to Dar es Salaam, bringing with us memories of this incredible, off-the-beaten-path safari.
