Mikumi National Park
Start
Dar es Salaam
End
Mikumi
Leaving Dar es Salaam, we head for Mikumi National Park, where the wide, open plains are reminiscent of the Serengeti, offering fantastic wildlife sightings. Upon arrival, we check into our lodge and enjoy lunch before our afternoon game drive. Mikumi is teeming with giraffes, elephants, and buffalo, and it’s not uncommon to see lions and other predators here as well. As the day draws to a close, we return to the lodge to share stories of the day’s sightings over dinner.
Day 2
Rufiji River, Nyerere National Park
Start
Mikumi
End
Nyerere
After breakfast, we journey to Nyerere National Park, one of Tanzania’s last untouched wildernesses. Arriving around midday, we settle in for lunch before heading out on a boat safari along the Rufiji River. This is a unique way to see the park’s wildlife from the water, with crocodiles basking on the banks and hippos watching warily. The river is alive with birdlife, too, offering plenty for nature enthusiasts. As the sun sets over the water, we’ll return to our lodge for a night under the stars.
