Company History - Who founded it, and why?

Goldfinch Adventures was founded in 2022 with a simple but powerful mission: to connect travelers with the true heart of Tanzania through immersive, ethical, and unforgettable safaris. Our founders are Tanzanian locals who grew up surrounded by the breathtaking wildlife, diverse cultures, and natural wonders that make this country so special. With years of firsthand experience in the travel and hospitality industry, they came together to create a safari company built on authenticity, personalized care, and deep local knowledge.

We started Goldfinch Adventures to offer something different — not just a tour, but a meaningful journey. We believe that every safari should be more than a checklist of sightings; it should be a well-curated story that respects the land, honors local communities, and leaves travelers feeling truly enriched.

Our favourite lodges and tented camps

At Goldfinch Adventures, we don’t just choose lodges for their stars — we choose them for their consistency, location, and the way they treat our guests like family. After years of building relationships and testing experiences firsthand, here are our favorite lodges and camps across Tanzania’s Northern Circuit:

Arusha

Kili Seasons and Gran Meliá Arusha Kili Seasons is our go-to for a peaceful, warm welcome into Tanzania. It’s just outside the bustle, surrounded by greenery, and always consistent in quality and service. For guests wanting luxury in the city, Gran Meliá offers elegance, great cuisine, and stunning views of Mount Meru.

Tarangire National Park

Maramboi Tented Lodge and Ang’ata Tarangire Camp Maramboi’s setting — between the park and Lake Manyara — is spectacular. Wildlife literally walks past your tent. Ang’ata Tarangire, inside the park, provides that immersive, bush-camp experience while still delivering comfort and personalized service.

Mto wa Mbu / Lake Manyara

Mawe Mawe Manyara Lodge and Manyara’s Secret Mawe Mawe has become one of our most trusted partners. Their attention to detail, stunning lodge design, and top-tier hospitality always leave our guests smiling. Manyara’s Secret is an intimate luxury lodge that feels like a hidden gem — perfect for couples and families wanting something special.

Karatu

The Retreat at Ngorongoro This lodge has never let us down. The rooms, views, and level of service are exceptional — but what really stands out is the partnership we’ve built with their team. They’ve helped us create seamless experiences for our guests time and again.

Ngorongoro Crater Rim

Lion’s Paw Camp Lion’s Paw remains one of the best-positioned lodges on the crater rim. Early access to the floor, quiet mornings, and the luxury of waking up surrounded by highland forest — it’s hard to beat for clients who want both beauty and proximity.

Serengeti National Park

Moyo Tented Camp and Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge Moyo Tented Camp offers our guests a true bush experience with the comfort of warm service and great food — and it’s one of the most reliable camps we’ve worked with. Kubu Kubu, on the other hand, blends comfort and location beautifully. Its views and elevated design make it a popular choice for guests seeking mid- to high-end luxury in the Central Serengeti.

We’ve built strong relationships with each of these properties — and we only recommend places we trust to deliver a consistently exceptional experience. Moyo Tented Camp, The Retreat at Ngorongoro, Mawe Mawe, Kili Seasons, and Manyara’s Secret have especially stood out as our most reliable partners, both in guest satisfaction and behind-the-scenes support. We value them not just for their lodges, but for how they do business — with heart, care, and integrity.

Real stories about how we support our clients

On the second day of a family safari, the father — someone who has since become family to us — wasn’t feeling well. It was meant to be a light day exploring Arusha National Park with a scenic walking safari, but plans shifted. While the rest of the family continued the adventure, we made sure he stayed behind in comfort at Kili Seasons, one of our trusted luxury partners.

Our guide Frank, known not just for his wildlife knowledge but his deep compassion, stayed close by to ensure everything was handled with care. The hotel staff provided warm meals and quiet rest, while we stayed in constant communication with the family. Nothing was rushed. Nothing was missed. Just a gentle pause, because health always comes first.

By the next morning, he was feeling better and ready to rejoin the journey — and when he did, he was smiling, rested, and surrounded by people who had treated him not as a client, but as one of their own. At Goldfinch Adventures, we don’t just guide safaris — we take care of people.

Our favourite spots in Tanzania

Even after countless safaris, there are places we still look forward to — places that remind us why we fell in love with guiding in the first place. Here are a few of our absolute favorites across Tanzania’s Northern Circuit:

Serengeti National Park#

**Moru Kopjes: **These ancient granite outcrops feel like nature’s art gallery — dramatic, wild, and often home to lions basking in the sun. We love showing guests how leopards use the kopjes for lookout spots and how Maasai paintings still remain etched into the rocks.

**The Central Serengeti Riverbanks: **During the dry season, the Seronera River becomes a magnet for wildlife. We’ve had incredible moments here: a leopard descending from a tree, a lion stalking near the reeds, elephants crossing right in front of the jeep. It never gets old.

Ngorongoro Crater#

**Lake Magadi (in the crater floor): **This alkaline lake is often painted pink with thousands of flamingos, and it always stuns first-time visitors. The contrast of white salt flats, green grasses, and distant crater walls makes it one of the most photogenic spots in Tanzania.

**The Lerai Forest: **A lush fig forest where elephants wander in and out of the mist — it feels like stepping into a different world. We always hope for a quiet moment here, especially in the early morning.

Tarangire National Park#

**Silale Swamp: **The swamp draws elephants by the hundreds, especially in the dry season. Watching them drink, bathe, and interact with their herds in this wide, open landscape is always a highlight — for us and for our guests.

**Baobab Valley: **Towering, ancient baobabs make this stretch of Tarangire feel like a prehistoric dream. We love stopping under one to explain their role in the ecosystem — and guests are always amazed by their scale and beauty.

Lake Manyara National Park#

**The Hippo Pool: **We’ve had guests laugh for minutes watching hippos grunt, splash, and jostle for space. This spot is lively, loud, and fun — a great place to slow down and soak in the energy of the park.

**The Tree-Climbing Lion Zone: **While rare, spotting one of Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions is still a thrilling moment. We always keep an eye on those low acacia branches… just in case.

Arusha National Park#

**Ngurdoto Crater Viewpoint: **This hidden gem offers panoramic views of the collapsed volcanic crater — often with no crowds. It’s quiet, lush, and alive with buffalo, monkeys, and sometimes even leopards.

Momella Lakes: The shimmering lakes, often dotted with flamingos, offer peaceful game viewing with a backdrop of Mt. Meru. Canoe safaris here are something we always enjoy arranging — a totally different way to experience the wild.

A glimpse into an exciting day of safari with us

A Guide Who Tracks Like He’s Part of the Wild

One morning in the Serengeti, just after sunrise, our guests were wrapping up breakfast when our guide Frank paused, gazing across a quiet stretch of grassland. No radio calls, no visible movement — just stillness. But Frank had spotted subtle tracks in the sand and scattered bird calls that told him something was near.

He calmly turned to the guests and said, “Get your cameras ready. We’re about to witness something special.”

Minutes later, we were the only vehicle in sight, watching a female cheetah emerge from the brush with three cubs in tow — walking straight toward the golden morning light. Not a single other jeep around. It was a moment so pure and intimate, it felt like the Serengeti paused just for them.

What made it unforgettable wasn’t just the sighting — it was Frank’s sixth sense, his quiet patience, and the feeling that he wasn’t just guiding a tour — he was guiding a story.

Our favourite safari lodges and tented camps

They’ve not only supported us as partners, but they’ve helped us create trip-defining moments for our clients.

What are your favourite Kilimanjaro routes, campsites, or acclimatization strategies — and why?

At Goldfinch Adventures, we’ve guided climbers from all walks of life to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro — and over time, we’ve learned what works best, not just on paper, but on the mountain when it counts. Here’s what we trust most:

1. Route: Machame Route — Our Top Pick Why we love it: • It’s scenic, varied, and offers the best balance between challenge and success rate. • The “climb high, sleep low” profile is ideal for acclimatization. • It gives climbers a real sense of progression — from dense rainforest to Shira Plateau to the icy heights of Barafu.

Best for: Clients who are moderately fit and want the classic Kilimanjaro experience with a high chance of reaching Uhuru Peak.

2. Campsite: Karanga Camp — The Acclimatization Game-Changer Why it stands out: • It’s not just a rest stop — it’s a strategic altitude checkpoint. • We’ve seen that climbers who spend a full night at Karanga often feel noticeably better on summit day. • The short hike from Barranco to Karanga is also perfect for “active rest.”

3. Acclimatization Strategy: Extra Day at Shira 2 or Karanga Why it matters: • Adding a 7th day to turn the Machame Route into a 7-day trek improves acclimatization dramatically. • This gives the body time to adjust, reduces AMS symptoms, and boosts summit success, especially for first-timers or clients coming from sea level.

4. Route for Comfort: Lemosho Route (8 Days) Why it’s ideal for slow & scenic travelers: • Starts in the west and joins the Machame route at Shira Plateau • Less crowded, with dramatic views and more time for acclimatization • Especially suited for photographers or older trekkers who want a slower pace and more solitude

5. Our Oxygen Strategy: Prevention over Rescue • We carry pulse oximeters and conduct twice-daily health checks • Our guides are trained in AMS detection, and we emphasize hydration + “pole pole” pacing • Emergency oxygen and evacuation plans are standard for every group

Bonus: What Clients Say Guests often tell us the Machame 7-day trek felt “challenging but perfectly paced,” and many thank us specifically for the Karanga Camp stop — calling it “the extra day that made summit night possible.”

What moments or parts of the mountain do you still find magical — even after climbing hundreds of times?

Even after guiding dozens of treks, there are still moments on Kilimanjaro that stop us in our tracks — moments that remind us why this mountain is more than just a climb.

1. Sunrise at Stella Point – A Sky Set on Fire There’s nothing — truly nothing — like the feeling of reaching Stella Point just as the first light spills over the horizon. You’ve been walking through the dark, cold hours of summit night, one foot in front of the other, and then suddenly — the sky explodes in orange, gold, and deep blue. The crater rim lights up. The air feels thin but sacred. That moment? It’s not just beautiful. It’s earned. It silences everyone, even the guides. No matter how many times we’ve been there, it gives us chills.

2. The Barranco Wall – Where Courage Meets Beauty Every time we help a group up the Barranco Wall, we see the same mix of excitement and nervous energy. But as you climb higher and look back — the Karanga Valley unfolds below, glaciers shimmer above, and you realize: you’re walking the spine of Africa. That perspective shift — both physically and emotionally — is powerful. And when a climber reaches the top, turns to the group and says, “I didn’t think I could do that,” we’re reminded exactly why we love this mountain.

Fantastic safari experience ever!

During four days in November, our family visited Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro with Goldfinch Adventures. Our guide and driver Frank and our cook Yusufu took excellent care of us, always with a smile. We spent one night in a lodge, and two nights in a tent in the heart of wilderness, which was a wonderful experience. Besides the gorgeous landscapes, we were able to observe a large variety of animals: Elephants, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, hippos, hyenas, crocodiles, and even a python and a serval. We really enjoyed this trip, and we would like to thank our lovely and competent accompanists. We particularly appreciated Goldfinch Adventures' individualized advice and arrangements, as well as their flexibility to adapt to our needs and last minute changes. We highly recommend this organizer for your ultimate safari experience!

Excellent Tour Operator

We were particularly happy to have chosen Goldfinch Adventures. We did a 6-day safari (Tarangire, 2xSerentegi, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara) in October 2025. The pre-departure organization was very good. They answered always within one day and adjusted the safari to our wishes. We made a 10% deposit and paid online on the day of departure (something I would advise everyone to do since most business in Tanzania is not as reliable as in Europe or the US. Goldfinch Adventures is a very reliable business partner though). Their vehicles are good; I would say similar to most others we saw. The car we had was a little older than the average which had no disadvantage. The seats were very wide and comfortable. The cars have a power charger and a small refrigerator for drinks. Our guide (Shwahibu) was excellent. He was very good at spotting wildlife - even some very hidden animals - and could explain a lot on animals and nature. He was an excellent driver and knew the terrain very well. I recommend going on Safari with Goldfinch Adventures without limitations.

10-day budget safari, wonderful tour!

I'd like to thank all the team of Goldfinch Adventures to give me and my friends the possibility to live a great safari experience. We began this adventure with a low budget and many doubts, but Vanessa and Kelvin help us to plan a full and rich itinerary, from Arusha to Serengeti, passing through Tarangire Park, Manyara, Eyasi and Natron lakes, Ngorongoro crater and Kilimanjaro view. They had the patience and the kindness to reply quickly to all our questions before leaving, suggesting the best solutions and giving us good advices. Once in Tanzania, from the first day Deo and his safari team, (the driver Sam and two fantastic cookers Yousuf and Emmanuel), make us feel safe and at home. We lived all they promised: meeting with local people, nature immersion, walking and climbing. They were always friendly and nice but at the same time professional and careful. Finally, they will miss us during our final tour in Zanzibar. I definitely recommend them ... asante sana to all of you!

Don't search other agencies! Choose Goldfinch Adventures for the best Safari!

Gorgeous, adventurous and exciting! Thanks to the guys of the GF for these 10 days of Safari. They let us see all the Big Five, the cheetah and all the Savannah animals. They were attentive to our requests, answered our questions and endured our whims. The food? A wonderful surprise, we ate very well! They were also able to quickly solve 2 drawbacks to off-road vehicles. I mean, I recommend a Safari with Goldfinch! Thanks to Boss Deo and the Team.

Excellent experience and great value

We thoroughly enjoyed our safari with Goldfinch Adventures. They were quite accommodating throughout the booking process and during the safari itself. We stayed in lovely lodges with good food, and our vehicle was perfect for animal viewing. Our guide (Isack) spoke English well and was very knowledgeable about the animals, where to find them, and how to interpret their behavior. His style was relaxed yet efficient. We saw every animal we had hoped to see (and many more!) and simply had an excellent time. We recommend them very highly!

Wonderful Safari Experience!

This was our second time to Africa and our second time on Safari -- they did not disappoint! We only had 2 days to spend on this trip for Safari, and they were able to meet our short time needs with still a very worthwhile experience. Deo (the Director) picked us up at our hotel in Arusha in the morning -- he already had our Safari-mates in the truck -- two British brothers who were great to get to know -- we then picked up two other great Safari-mates along the way for the second day! Our Driver / Guide, Emma, was amazing! Even though he must do this trip day in and day out, he was exuberant to see the animals and so knowledgeable about any animal or plant or bird around. He spotted most animals way before we would have (if we would have seen them to begin with!) and had a wonderful sense of humor. Most of all -- for myself--- I am not a big fan of driving up (or down) mountainous curvy roads and Emma made me feel so safe due to his obvious experience (15 years) and not going crazy fast on the sketchy roads. He was a professional through and through. Between the Lake Manyara Park and the Ngorongoro Crater, we saw Elephants, Wildebeests, Giraffes (from afar), Hippos, Zebras, Hyenas, Gazelle and most importantly -- 6 Lions!! Overall, for a 2-day Safari, it was well worth the money, and I would recommend for sure!

Perfect journey Ever!

My fiancée and I had a wonderful time with Goldfinch Adventures. Everything was handled seamlessly, and it was clearly a very well organized operation. Our driver Joshua was outstanding, extremely personable and knowledgeable regarding the wildlife and plant life. He was also, importantly, an excellent driver! :) I would definitely re-book with Goldfinch Adventures in the future if I find myself back in the area.

I couldn't have asked for a better, more informed and well-organized company for this style of trip.

We received excellent service throughout the whole trip: warm contact, a very pleasant and interesting guide who was very experienced & knowledgeable. We were lucky to be able to see the big 5 & a lot more animals & birds in the three parks: Lake Manyara, Serengeti & Ngorongoro crater. What an incredible country! Our guide was happy to help in any way & helped us plan parts of our onwards trip in Tanzania. I can highly recommend Goldfinch Adventures. Thank you for everything!

Simply the best holiday I have ever experienced

We had a four-day safari that took us to Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Ngorongoro. The safari was amazing and there were so many unforgettable moments. Our safari guide picked us up from the airport in Kilimanjaro and dropped us off when we departed. From the moment we landed, we felt very well looked after and experienced the wonderful Tanzanian hospitality. Our guide Shwahibu was very knowledgeable, courteous, funny and made us feel really comfortable. He seemed to have a sixth sense when in the National Parks and clearly knew a great deal about animal behavior. Everything ran smoothly and the accommodation lived up to our expectations. If you are thinking of booking a safari, I have no hesitation in recommending Goldfinch Adventures. Ours was definitely a once in a lifetime experience.

Amazing experience!

I booked my trip online off course I was little scared how it's going to be but everything turned out amazing! Deo is very professional and the same time so friendly. He treated us like we've been friends forever... He is able to answer every questions even more than we have known to ask, he informed us briefly. He was very careful about what we told him, what we are expecting to see, he gave us our dream come true. I fell in love with Tanzania in 4 days and now dreaming going back for more days.

Thank you, GF, for my Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Maynara Safari

I was fortunate enough to have Sam as our guide for our trip, James was very knowledgeable of the Animals and provided us with a great experience! During our Safari he did not rest until we got the experience we wanted. Several times he stopped and pointed out animals that we haven't even seen at first glance it was hard to see them, but he patiently explained to us the precise location. Sam also served as a Swahili tutor and learned many things from him. Will definitely use them again. I am planning another safari and will be using them for sure. Asante Sana Bwana Sam!, Nimefurahi kukutana nawe, Tuttaonana baadaye! Kwa heri!

Goldfinch Adventures make dreams a reality

My partner and I opted for Goldfinch Adventures to organise and plan our 13 day combined Safari and Beach vacation in October 2025. It appears we chose wisely as we both agree it was the best vacation we have ever had (and we have been to many places!). Kelvin listened to our requirements and put together a very professional full itinerary for our private tour. Together we tweaked a couple of bits here and there before settling on the final product. Everything was taken care of, from transfers, to accommodation bookings, park fees, food & refreshments and knowledgeable guides, and for any queries he was available via WhatsApp. We swear we had the best driver/guide in Tanzania. Samwel made this trip for us with his kind heart, keen eyesight, sense of humour and expert driving skill. By the end of the week he had become a friend, after seeing the big 5 and so much more in Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorogoro. We visited Kilimanjaro and literally made our own coffee from beans to roasting to crushing and boiling. We swam in the hot spring of Chemka. Our second week was more relaxing and less complex on the white sands of Zanzibar but this too was organised by Kelvin including the domestic flight across. Do not be alarmed by the "30% up front and pay the rest in cash once you get there". This appears to be typical practice for the local operators. We cannot fault any part of this trip and can thoroughly recommend Goldfinch Adventures to plan your experience of Tanzania & Zanzibar.

Flawless Safari Planning & Unforgettable Memories

From the very beginning, working with Deo to arrange our safari was a pleasure. He was incredibly responsive — answering every message promptly and making the whole process smooth and stress-free. No request was too much, and his attention to detail truly showed in how well the trip was organized. The itinerary was thoughtfully planned, and the accommodations were nothing short of first class. Our guide, Lazafo, was not only friendly and informative but also an exceptional driver — the kind of person who makes you feel instantly at ease. We were lucky enough to see the Big Five, with four of them spotted on our very first day! Even when we encountered a few last-minute flight changes (as is often the case), Deo handled everything with calm professionalism. This was a truly memorable safari — the kind of experience you never forget. Huge thanks to everyone at Goldfinch for making it so special!

Above and Beyond – A Once-in-a-Lifetime Father-Son Safari

Kelvin from Goldfinch Adventures went above and beyond to ensure our safari was absolutely unforgettable. Despite our short notice, his response was prompt and incredibly thorough. When we had to adjust our travel dates, he sent over a revised itinerary within hours — seamless and professional from the very start. From the moment we were picked up, every detail was handled with care: the flights, the accommodations, and the smooth transitions throughout. Kelvin and Brenda handed us over to our guide, Issac, who immediately made us feel at home. His deep knowledge of wildlife, culture, and local history brought the entire journey to life. He didn’t just guide us — he engaged us, shared stories, and answered every one of my (many!) questions with patience and enthusiasm. The safari itself was breathtaking, but it was the people who made it truly special. From incredible wildlife sightings to meaningful conversations over dinner and breakfast, this trip became more than just travel — it became a lifelong memory. Dylan and I are deeply grateful to Kelvin, Brenda, and Issac for making this father-son journey so meaningful. We HIGHLY recommend Goldfinch Adventures to anyone seeking a truly personal and unforgettable safari experience.

Everything Was Perfect – A Once-in-a-Lifetime Safari

We booked a 3-day safari to explore Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater, and even added a hot air balloon ride — and let us just say: everything was perfect. From the organization to the service, every aspect of the experience exceeded our expectations. The itinerary was well-balanced, the logistics seamless, and every team member we encountered was professional and welcoming. We were especially impressed by how thoughtful and personalized the whole experience felt — it never felt rushed or commercial. Sure, it’s not the cheapest trip you’ll ever take, but the memories we made were truly priceless. Outstanding Safari Experience – Thoughtful, Seamless & Unforgettable

Our journey with Goldfinch Adventures was nothing short of exceptional. From the very first message, Deo provided outstanding support — answering all our questions quickly and going the extra mile in ways we never expected. When I needed medication during the trip, he personally visited a pharmacy on Christmas Day to make sure I was taken care of. That level of care is rare. And as a thoughtful touch, he even gifted us some incredible local coffee after hearing how much we enjoyed it — a small gesture that meant a lot. Our safari guide, Isaac, was not only deeply knowledgeable but also warm, respectful, and attentive. He ensured our comfort at every stage of the journey and helped us check off the Big Five — a dream fulfilled. Beyond his professionalism, we enjoyed his company, and that personal connection made the trip even more special. Every detail — from the seamless itinerary to the comfort of the safari jeep and the exceptional lodges — exceeded our expectations. We left feeling not like clients, but like friends. We wholeheartedly recommend Goldfinch Adventures to anyone looking for a safari experience filled with heart, precision, and unforgettable moments.
