A glimpse into an exciting day of safari with us

Meet Joseph – Over 20 Years of Safari Mastery Imagine this: dawn breaking over the endless plains of the Serengeti, when Joseph — our senior guide with more than two decades of experience — gently stops the vehicle. He leans forward, listening intently. “Did you hear that?” he asks, his voice low with excitement. Seconds later, a distant, guttural call echoes again. “It’s a coalition of male lions,” Joseph explains, his eyes scanning the golden grass. “They’re marking their territory before sunrise.” Within minutes, he navigates us off the main track, reading subtle signs — a fresh paw print in the dust, a broken blade of grass. As the sun spills light across the savannah, three huge lions appear out of the haze, their manes lit like fire. Guests sit in stunned silence. Cameras click. And Joseph — who speaks fluent English, German, French, and Italian — quietly shares how he first tracked this same coalition when they were just young males 10 years earlier. This is the difference of experience you feel in every moment with our team — guides who don’t just drive you to animals, but reveal their life stories.

Our favourite safari lodges and tented camps

My favorite safari lodges and camps are those that consistently deliver warm hospitality, exceptional locations, and outstanding value for our guests. These are properties we trust, having worked with them over the years and seen firsthand the quality of care and experience they provide. In the Serengeti, I particularly recommend Africa Kongoni Serengeti Camp and Safari Haven Central Serengeti for their authentic bush atmosphere, excellent guiding access, and prime wildlife viewing. Moyo Tented Camp and Land of Nature Camp also stand out for their comfort, natural settings, and close connection to the wilderness. During the Great Migration season, Safari Haven Migration Camp, located near the Mara River, is an exceptional choice, offering front-row access to one of nature’s most dramatic spectacles. Around the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Farm of Dreams Lodge, Karatu Villa, and Summit Safari Lodge are guest favorites, known for their comfort, warm service, and freshly prepared meals—perfect for relaxing after a full day on safari. In Tarangire National Park, Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge and Tarangire Simba Lodge offer beautiful views, peaceful settings, and frequent elephant encounters, creating a truly immersive safari experience. For Lake Manyara, Manyara Wildlife Safari Camp remains an excellent and affordable option, well-positioned for exploring the park’s diverse landscapes and wildlife. Ranging from budget to comfortable mid-range, these lodges and camps have earned our confidence through consistent service, genuine hospitality, and the ability to create memorable safari experiences for our guests.

Our favourite spots in Tanzania

Even after years of guiding, there are places and moments that never lose their magic for me. These are the spots where nature feels raw, intimate, and alive—and where big cat encounters often unfold in unforgettable ways. Serengeti National Park

  • Central Serengeti (Seronera Valley): I’m always excited to show clients the Seronera River circuit, where leopards drape themselves over acacia branches and lions hunt in open plains. The concentration of big cats here is extraordinary year-round, and every drive feels cinematic.

  • Northern Serengeti (Mara River region): Beyond the famous crossings, I love the quieter kopjes where lions and cheetahs patrol the grasslands. Watching predators use the landscape with patience and precision never gets old. Ngorongoro Conservation Area

  • Ngorongoro Crater floor: Descending into the crater still gives me goosebumps. Seeing black rhinos grazing against the misty backdrop and lions moving confidently across open plains is a reminder of how special this ecosystem truly is.

  • Lerai Forest edge: This area often surprises guests with close elephant encounters and lions resting in the shade—peaceful yet powerful moments that feel deeply exclusive. Tarangire National Park

  • Silale Swamp: I get especially excited here during the dry season. The wildlife density is remarkable—lions stalking buffalo, leopards near the riverine trees, and elephants gathering in large numbers.

  • Baobab-dotted plains: Tarangire’s ancient baobabs create dramatic scenery, and cheetah sightings in these open areas are always a thrill. Lake Manyara National Park

  • Groundwater forest: The transition from forest to open lake views is magical. This is where I enjoy pointing out subtle wildlife moments—baboons, blue monkeys, and occasionally leopards moving silently through the trees.

  • Open floodplains near the lake: When conditions are right, lions resting in fig trees or stalking across the grass make for rare and exciting sightings. Nyerere (Selous) National Park

  • Rufiji River channels: Showing clients wildlife from the water never loses its charm. Crocodiles, hippos, and elephants along the banks create a completely different safari rhythm—calm yet intense.

  • Remote open plains: This is where lion prides and elusive leopards feel truly wild, far from crowds, offering a sense of pure exploration. What excites me most is that no matter how many times I visit these places, nature always writes a new story. Big cat action, dramatic landscapes, and quiet, powerful moments remind me—and my guests—that no two safaris are ever the same.

Real stories about how we support our clients

One experience that truly reflects who we are happened with a guest who faced two unexpected challenges before and during their safari. Before arriving in Tanzania, the client encountered difficulties obtaining their visa due to documentation confusion and timing pressure. Our team stepped in immediately—guiding them step by step through the correct visa process, reviewing their details, and staying in constant communication until approval was secured. What could have been a stressful start to their journey became a smooth and confident arrival, setting the tone for the safari ahead. During the safari, while already deep inside the national park, the guest suddenly realized they had run out of essential medication. This was a serious concern, as leaving the park would have disrupted the entire itinerary and experience. Without hesitation, we acted. While the safari continued seamlessly with the main guide, we dispatched a second guide to exit the park, locate the required medication from a trusted pharmacy, and return the same day. The guest never felt rushed, compromised, or neglected—only cared for. Moments like this remind us that a safari is not just about wildlife and landscapes, but about responsibility, trust, and human connection. For us, luxury is knowing that no matter the situation, our guests are supported with calm professionalism, discretion, and genuine care—every step of the journey.

What are your favourite Kilimanjaro routes, campsites, or acclimatization strategies — and why?

When it comes to Mount Kilimanjaro, my preferences are shaped by one priority above all others: giving our clients the highest chance of a safe, successful, and enjoyable summit experience. Over the years, two routes have consistently proven ideal for our guests—the Machame Route and the Marangu Route—each for very specific reasons. Machame Route – “The Whisky Route” The Machame Route is my favorite choice for clients seeking the best balance between scenery, acclimatization, and summit success. What makes this route exceptional is its “climb high, sleep low” profile, which allows the body to adjust gradually to altitude. Camps such as Shira Camp and Barranco Camp are not only well positioned for acclimatization but also incredibly scenic, with dramatic views of glaciers, lava towers, and expansive plains below. Clients also enjoy the sense of progression as the landscapes change each day—from rainforest to alpine desert—making the journey feel immersive and rewarding. This route is ideal for active travelers who want a true trekking experience, strong acclimatization, and a higher success rate without feeling rushed. Marangu Route – “The Coca-Cola Route” The Marangu Route is perfect for clients who prioritize comfort and simplicity. It is the only route offering mountain huts rather than tents, which many guests appreciate—especially during colder or wetter seasons. Camps like Mandara Hut and Horombo Hut provide solid resting points, and the availability of proper beds and dining halls makes recovery more comfortable. For acclimatization, we strongly recommend an extra acclimatization day at Horombo Hut, including a hike toward Zebra Rocks. This strategy significantly improves summit success and reduces altitude-related challenges. Marangu is ideal for first-time high-altitude trekkers, travelers who prefer less camping exposure, and those seeking a more straightforward ascent and descent on the same route. Our Acclimatization Strategy Regardless of route, we focus heavily on pacing, hydration, and observation. We keep a steady “pole pole” (slow and steady) walking rhythm, encourage frequent hydration, and monitor every client closely for signs of altitude stress. Our guides are trained to adjust the pace and itinerary when needed, ensuring safety is never compromised. For our clients, the ideal route is not about popularity—it’s about suitability. By carefully matching the Machame or Marangu Route to each guest’s fitness level, comfort preference, and travel goals, we ensure the Kilimanjaro experience is not just a climb, but a well-supported, memorable achievement.

What moments or parts of the mountain do you still find magical — even after climbing hundreds of times?

Even after climbing Mount Kilimanjaro many times, there are moments that never lose their magic for me—they are the reasons I still feel deeply connected to the mountain. One of the most powerful moments is watching the sun rise at Stella Point. As the sky slowly shifts from deep blue to gold, the glaciers glow with soft light and the vast plains of Tanzania unfold below. In that quiet moment, exhaustion fades, and I see pure emotion on clients’ faces—relief, pride, and disbelief all at once. It reminds me that every summit is personal, no matter how many times you’ve been there. Another moment that always touches me is seeing first-time trekkers react to Kilimanjaro’s glaciers. For many guests, it’s their first time seeing ice at the equator. The silence, the scale, and the realization of where they are often leave them speechless. Watching that sense of wonder reminds me why guiding is more than a job—it’s about sharing perspective-changing experiences. I also still find passing the Barranco Wall incredibly special. It looks intimidating at first, but once clients realize it’s a fun, achievable scramble, fear turns into confidence. The teamwork, encouragement, and laughter along the wall create strong bonds among the group and often become one of their favorite memories of the climb. Finally, the rainforest zone at the start of the journey remains magical to me. The mist, towering trees, bird calls, and occasional sightings of colobus monkeys create a sense of entering another world. It’s where excitement is high, spirits are fresh, and the adventure truly begins. These moments—sunrise, glaciers, shared challenges, and the quiet beauty of nature—never repeat themselves in the same way. That’s what keeps Kilimanjaro endlessly magical for me, no matter how many times I return.

exceptional safari

We went on a 4-day safari where we saw the Big Five. It was exceptional! The close proximity to the animals, the magnificent scenery, and our guide was perfect, with excellent knowledge of his subject. Everything was perfect, even the food prepared by the chef was perfect. Thank you for this safari!!

We couldn't have asked for anything better!

The Fondness team was excellent from the first minute! The entire booking and organization process was seamless, with direct and continuous contact. Before leaving, Martin and Irene stopped by our hotel for a detailed briefing on the coming days, answering all our questions. The safari, conducted in collaboration with another tour operator (Suricata), was spectacular! Our guide Lewis and our chef Pius (I hope that's how it's spelled) were both excellent. We spent three days between the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, staying in tents, a decision I highly recommend for even more contact with nature and waking up among the animals. During the game drives, we were able to see all the main animals, including the Big Five, at close range. In addition to the local wildlife, we were also enchanted by Tanzania's landscapes, from the endless plains and vast skies of the Serengeti to the incredible variety and uniqueness of the Ngorongoro Crater. A special thank you to the entire team for helping me make this trip even more special, helping me plan the proposal to my future wife. (She said yes!)

Adventure Vacation

Hi, I'm a guy who did a 5-day safari, 2 nights in a hotel and 2 nights camping. Without a doubt, this experience was incredible; I recommend it to everyone. Tanzania is beautiful. The food was very good and the team was great—friendly and professional people. I visited Lake Manyara, Tarangire, the Serengeti, and Norongoro. They're all beautiful, but you absolutely must visit the last two. HAKUNA MATATA

Amazing safari with great people!

I had a great experience with my 5 day Safari (Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro crater, Lake Manyara) with Fondness. I am more of a last minute booker and was looking for one right after finishing my Kili climb. Another guy from the hike gave me Steven contact and he was very quick to respond to all questions and setting me up with a group for the safari that I was looking for starting next day. Our guide, Rasheed, was very knowledgeable and seemed to really enjoy his job. The meals, prepared by Dennis, were great as well and definitely exceeded the expectations I had going into it. We were a 7 person group and everyone got along really well in the Safari. I would highly recommend booking with Stephen and if you end up with Rasheed as your guide then I am sure you will have a great time!

Amazing safari with a wonderful chef

We had booked a 4-day safari in Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro with 2 nights in a tent and one in a hotel. To start, Steph welcomed us in Arusha the day before and showed us around Arusha and the market, it was great! During the safari we were treated to the wonderful guide Jeff, after 20 years of experience, he surprised us with his eagle eye, nothing escaped him! He allowed us to have the incredible chance to see the big six! It's magnificent! To make the safari even more amazing, we were accompanied by a chef just for us, he cooked us whatever we wanted in large quantities and it was excellent! During lunch in the camps we saw that we were privileged because most of the other people who were on safari with other companies had a miserable cardboard box with industrial food! Before choosing this agency, I contacted about ten others. Fondness Vacations offered me one of the best prices for a top-quality service. In a word, it's INCREDIBLE! Finally, Steph took us to a local brasserie at the end of the safari; we had a blast!

Amazing safari with wonderfull people

The tour operator came to our hotel in Arusha to give us a briefing before the trip, also afterwards he came to check with us how it went. The driver of the safari was really nice and interested in the animals himself. The local tour in the village was also really nice, we saw a lot of other things in the same village we were sleeping, we didn't saw the days before!

Great 4 day safari!

We had an amazing 4-day safari through Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti! The whole experience was incredibly well organized, and the team made us feel very welcome and well taken care of. Our guide, Machete, was absolutely fantastic – he always found the best spots for wildlife viewing and was very attentive to our wishes and preferences throughout the trip. Thanks to him, we were able to see so much and truly enjoy the beauty of the parks. The food was also delicious every single day. All in all it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend this safari to others.

We had a great Family Safari for Four days. Stefan, the owner, is a very reliable and competent person. He is personable and trustworthy. His driver Stephan was very save driver. You only realize later why this is so important. Thanks, Stephan. Our guide, Haji, was the best thing that could have happened to us. Not only does he speak German and find every animal, he also has incredible knowledge of all the parks. He's funny, and we're so glad he was our guide. Thank you, Haji. I would book with Stephan again anytime. Unlike the big companies, he takes care of everything!

Beyond Expectations

Everything is beyond expectations. My friend and I went on a mid-range 4 day Serengeti safari with Steve’s team. Now thanking back, the route Steve planned is very smart, with no time wasted. We flew to Northern Serengeti first, then drove through central Serengeti and all the way back to Arusha. Every accommodation is beyond expectation. You can feel the efforts Steve put in picking the hotels. During the trip, we saw Great Migration crossing, big fives. I have to say we are quite lucky but also thanks to our guide/driver’s excellent driving skill and abundant knowledge of animals. Last but not least, our car is loaded with free beer every day! And cold beer! A biiiiiig bonus!! The whole trip is a good balance between chill and adventure. So just trust Steve and his team. He will guarantee you a unforgettable experience!

The tour was well organised, full of fun and an incredible experience

This tour is a great all inclusive package, they arrange transport from the airport before conducting a pre-briefing with a competent and insightful staff member who went above and beyond to help me to pick up some additional supplies that I needed. The next day you are picked up by an experienced tour guide who gives you all the required context, arranges your meals and accomodation and shows you all the best spots to take quality photos of the big 5 animals. Our guide Jojo did an excellent job making us feel comfortable and we bonded as a group over the incredible animals we saw. We were lucky to see baby lions, cheetahs and leopards as well as elephants brushing past our vehicle. I wasn’t sure a safari would be worthwhile for me but I’m so glad I did one and the customer support and value provided by this company was second to none.

Top-Notch Experience, Highly Recommended!

We chose Fondness Vacation for our 4-day safari and couldn't have made a better choice. The itinerary through Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro was perfect, with tons of animal sightings, thanks in large part to our guide, Freddy, who was excellent and very knowledgeable. The organization was top-notch: Stephen contacted us every day to check in, the jeep was comfortable and always fully stocked, and the food—both the packed lunches and at the accommodations—was genuinely great. We really appreciated the mix of one night in a lodge and two nights camping, which made the savanna atmosphere even more immersive. A serious, competent agency that truly takes care of its clients. Well done!
