What are your favourite Kilimanjaro routes, campsites, or acclimatization strategies — and why?

Top Kilimanjaro Routes We Recommend#

1️⃣ Lemosho Route (7–8 Days)

Why we love it: This is our 1 recommended route scenic, less crowded, and with the highest summit success rate. It starts on the western side of the mountain, crossing diverse landscapes from rainforest to alpine desert. Ideal for: First-timers who want the best balance of gradual acclimatization and epic views. Client Favorite: Shira Plateau’s sweeping vistas and the breathtaking Barranco Wall.

Machame Route (6–7 Days)

Why we love it: Known as the “Whiskey Route,” it’s a bit more challenging but incredibly scenic passing through lush forests, dramatic ridgelines, and iconic viewpoints. Ideal for: Adventurous climbers looking for a dramatic, well-paced route with rich variation in terrain. Client Favorite: Sunset at Shira Camp and panoramic views at Lava Tower (great for acclimatization).

Marangu Route (5–6 Days)

Why we love it: It’s the only route with hut accommodations, making it a good option for those who prefer sleeping in a bed rather than a tent. Ideal for: Clients who want a shorter, less rugged experience with basic comforts. Client Favorite: The cozy Mandara & Horombo Huts and the sociable trekking environment.

What moments or parts of the mountain do you still find magical — even after climbing hundreds of times?

Sunrise at Stella Point

There’s something almost spiritual about arriving at Stella Point just as the horizon begins to burn gold. After hours of cold, darkness, and silence, that first glow is more than light it’s proof that you made it. Every time we’re there, we still feel chills… and it’s not just the altitude. It's seeing grown adults break into tears, laughing and crying at the same time.

The First Step on the Barranco Wall

We’ve climbed that wall dozens of times, but watching our clients take their first scrambling step nervous, excited, unsure is pure magic. They always look up thinking, “How will I do this?” But a few careful moves later, they’re standing on top, wind in their hair, victorious. And that moment when fear turns into confidence is the heartbeat of Kilimanjaro.

From Our Team:#

“The mountain has many faces, but it always shows us something new in the clouds, in the people, in the silence between steps.” One of our lead guides, Diana Tanzania Safaris

Our favourite spots in Tanzania

Tarangire National Park#

Silale Swamp

Even after all these years, watching elephants wade through the lush green of Silale Swamp tusks gleaming, trunks swaying still gives us goosebumps. It’s peaceful, wild, and full of life.

Baobab Cathedral

When clients stand beneath the towering baobabs, jaws dropping at their size and silence, we smile every time. These trees feel ancient, wise like guardians of the land.

Ngorongoro Crater#

The Crater Floor at Sunrise

As we descend into the crater at dawn, mist rising over golden grass and buffalo herds moving in silence, it feels like we’re entering a forgotten world. That quiet beauty never fades.

Lerai Forest

A favorite hideout for lions and elephants, this fig-draped forest always adds suspense to our drives. We love watching clients hold their breath as a lioness emerges from the shadows.

Serengeti National Park (Central)#

Sausage Tree Valleys in Seronera

Leopards draped across branches, golden light pouring through the leaves… this is classic Serengeti, and we still get a thrill every time we spot that elusive cat.

Grumeti River Crossing (Dry Season)

Even without the migration, watching wildlife gather along this river is magical crocs sunning, zebras drinking, hippos grunting raw**, untamed Africa**.

Northern Serengeti (Mara Region)#

Mara River Crossings (Migration Season)

No matter how many crossings we witness, the heart races every time. The dust, the chaos, the power life** and death unfolding in real time**. Guests are always speechless. So are we.

Lake Manyara National Park#

The Groundwater Forest We love driving slowly through the cool, shaded fig trees, where baboons rule the roads and blue monkeys leap above. It’s an enchanted forest, especially magical in the morning mist.

Lake Shoreline During Flamingo Season

When the light hits the water and thousands of flamingos turn the lake pink, we still gasp and so do our guests. It's like witnessing a living watercolor painting.

Real stories about how we support our clients

A Story of Support Beyond the Safari#

In July 2023, one of our solo clients, Emily from the UK, was midway through her dream safari when she received unexpected news: her return flight had been canceled due to an airline strike in Europe. Alone, stressed, and with limited internet, she didn’t know what to do next. But our team did. While she was still out on game drive in the Serengeti, our office team in Arusha and our guide on the ground worked hand in hand. We found her a new flight, adjusted her itinerary, and even contacted the airline directly on her behalf all before the sun had set on her game drive. We extended her stay at no extra cost for one night, made sure she had proper meals, and transferred her safely to the airport once her new flight was confirmed. Emily later told us, “You made me feel like I wasn’t traveling alone anymore.” That’s what Diana Tanzania Safaris is all about being family when our clients are far from home.

A glimpse into an exciting day of safari with us

Chide and the Night of the Leopard’s Eyes Not all magic happens in daylight. It was the final night of a 5-day safari in the Serengeti. Most guests were winding down, cameras packed, minds full of memories. But our guide Chide had one more surprise. Instead of heading straight to camp, he took a slow detour under the rising moon. As the stars unfolded above, he quietly said, "Let’s turn off the engine for a moment." The night was alive crickets chirping, distant hyenas calling, the deep silence of the wild. Then... two glowing amber eyes appeared in the tall grass, fixed and unblinking. Chide whispered, "Don’t move. You’re looking into the eyes of a leopard." For nearly ten minutes, the animal sat motionless watching them, studying them before melting silently into the darkness. No other vehicles. No other tourists. Just the heartbeat of the Serengeti, a leopard, and the kind of silence that speaks louder than any roar. That’s what we offer at Diana Tanzania Safaris: moments that aren’t found on maps… only through the eyes of a guide who sees beyond the obvious.

Exellent

Amazing experience on a 3 day safari with guide Herman. Upon arrival, we were picked up from the airport and set off on our journey. We visited the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. We slept two nights in the middle of the jungle at Serengeti wildcamp. The food there was insane and the guys super nice. The tent was huge with a shower and toilet. For 3 days we saw the Big Five and a lot of other animals thanks to Herman who has a lot of experience and knows all the corners of the parks. He shared with us interesting information about animals, always knew where to go and has amazing eyesight. We have lots of great photos and memories. Thanks Herman thanks Diana Tanzania Safaris. I highly recommend it.

Exellent

We went on a 5-day safari with Diana Tanzania Safaris, visiting Tarangire NP, Serengeti NP, and Ngorongoro Crater. Our guide Manfred and chef Deo made our experience amazing. They were both friendly and made us feel at home. They answered all of our questions and took us to the best spots to take amazing pictures of all the animals. Manfred was an excellent driver, storyteller, and guide. He had a passion for photography and showed us the best places to capture amazing shots of the animals. Deo provided us with delicious food and ensured that we had a wide variety of dishes to choose from. The campsites were in a great location and the tents were very comfortable. We had an amazing experience and would highly recommend a safari tour with Diana Tanzania Safaris, especially with Manfred and Deo. It was definitely an experience of a lifetime and we give it a 10/10!

It was a fantastic experience to go on this safari with Diana Tanzania and our guide Amani. The hotels were very good and so was the itinerary. We also want to thank Amani, who took care of us and made us see the big five (lions, buffalos, rhinos, leopards, elephants) and many other animals of course. He was very professional and very nice. Professional company

I was highly impressed after having a Tanzania Safari and Zanzibar relaxation time with Diana Tanzania Safaris. They seems to be a large and well stabilised company, when it comes to Tanzania Safari. The organisation of my vacation was perfect, with zero faults. Knowing nothing about Tanzania and Safari when registering, Diana Tanzania safaris supplied a ton of information, and tailored my vacation to be a good match. The information supplied was useful, for instance: what to pack, how to pack, how to approach tips, and much more. Applying for a single person accommodations and being a pescatarian person, I did not have any issues, with hotel reservations. meals etc. All communications before and during the trip were promptly addressing. The guide/driver was knowledgeable and love his job. There as an additional guide, for the Kilimanjaro hiking day. I'm pleased to share this review, where I don't have any bad things to share.

AMAZING SAFARI WITH DIANA TANZANIA SAFARIS

Diana Tanzania safaris are a must use company!! We booked a 6 day Safari through Diana Tanzania safaris for our honeymoon this year - we had a phenomenal trip thanks to them! Ever since our initial enquiry, customer service has been faultless and we have been at the centre of everything - Diana was assisting us and she did a great job of planning and tailoring our itinerary to the perfect trip - which it really was! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, we were made to feel comfortable and at home straight away; feeling none of the potential stress we could have felt. There was a representative waiting to take us to our first lodge in Arusha and talk us through our trip day by day to ensure we were happy! This continued throughout the trip; all of our stays, transfers, etc were well organised which made a massive impact! Our guide, Herman was a hero. From Day 1 Safari, to Day 6, nothing was ever too much for him. He spoke excellent English, was incredibly knowledgeable, ensured we saw pretty much everything possible on a safari, and always got us to the right place at the right time, even on those Tanzanian roads - what a trooper! He allowed us to immerse ourselves in Tanzanian culture, told lots of stories, taught us lots of Swahili so we could interact with local people, and we would genuinely consider him as a friend upon leaving! If you get the opportunity, ask for him as a guide! Accommodation was all to a really high standard Diana Tanzania safaris pride themselves on this); and food exceeded our expectations, particularly on Safari. Overall, a great 6-day Safari (Tarangire NP, Ngorogoro Crater, Central Serengeti, Northern Serengeti x 2), When we come back to do Safari again, we will definitely book with Diana Tanzania safaris!

Was unexpected breathtaking

Without a doubt the most incredible experience we have ever had. We saw the Big 5 and more. Literally all our dreams came true during this unforgettable trip. Everything was arranged so well, the places we stayed exceeded all our expectations and we have never met such friendly people. A huge thank you to Diana for making our week such a succes. She made sure all was taken care of, everyone was happy and that we spot all the animals we wanted to see. We were even lucky enough to see a caracal, 5 rhinos, a sleeping lion in the tree, leopards and 10 cheetahs all thanks to Patrick's good eyes. The roads where pretty harsh but Patrick's incredible driving skills made us feel more than safe.Patrick was not just our tour guide but treated us like family. We would recommend Diana Tanzania Safaris to anyone and if we ever come back we would choose them again. If you are going to Tanzania, it is worth every penny. Hakuna matata

Fantastic value!

I started with a climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro - a bit grueling but totally worth it! The weather cooperated and the views were amazing. Diana was great in setting me up with a terrific guide, all the gear, and a great support team. The logistics were complicated, but she made it effortless. Then she arranged a 6 day safari including Tarangire, Ngorogoro, and the Serengeti. This was spectacular! The driver was excellent with deep knowledge of the wildlife and history of the area. Going out at dawn to see the great migration was a highlight never to be forgotten. I could not be happier with the service and support that Diana provided. Thank you!
