A glimpse into an exciting day of safari with us

🐘 How Izack Outsmarted a Charging Elephant — and Saved the Day "The wind shifted. The elephant froze. And in seconds—it charged straight at us."

Most tourists would panic. But Izack, one of our most experienced safari guides with over a decade of leading tours in the wild, didn’t flinch.

He’d read the signs: a mock charge, but one that could quickly turn real. He calmly asked the clients to stay quiet, motioned the driver to cut the engine, and slowly pulled out a faded Maasai shuka from under his seat — not to wave it, but to hold it low, like a herder would.

The matriarch paused. The tension broke.

She turned, grunted, and the whole herd followed her into the bush.

Later, over bush tea, Izack explained:

“She wasn’t being aggressive. She was warning us. I just needed to show her we weren’t a threat.”

That’s the magic of a real safari guide — not just knowing the animals, but understanding their language without a word.

When you're out in the wild, you want an Izack on your team.

Our favourite safari lodges and tented camps

🦁 Northern Circuit – Safari Lodges & Camps#

  • Standout feature: Tucked deep into the wild, yet comfy — warm water, soft beds, and fresh food cooked daily.

What are your favourite Kilimanjaro routes, campsites, or acclimatization strategies — and why?

🗻 Favourite Kilimanjaro Routes – with Genuine Reasons

1. Lemosho Route (7–8 Days)

  • Why it’s a favourite: Most scenic, great acclimatization profile, less crowded in the first days.

  • Client experience: Forest, Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, and Barranco Wall — all major highlights.

  • Best for: First-time climbers who want a balanced, beautiful and safer experience.

  • Summit success rate: High (85–90% with proper pacing and support).

  • Optional upgrade: Private toilet tent + extra porter for photo gear or comfort.

2. Machame Route (6–7 Days)

  • Why we love it: Popular for a reason — varied terrain, dramatic views, affordable logistics.

  • Client highlight: The thrill of climbing the Barranco Wall and camping under the stars at Shira Camp.

  • Best for: Adventurous climbers who want great value without skipping scenery.

  • Key tip: Opt for 7 days to include better acclimatization with a night at Karanga Camp.

3. Northern Circuit Route (8–9 Days)

  • Why it’s ideal for serious climbers: Longest route, best acclimatization, very quiet and remote.

  • Client feedback: “Felt like we had the mountain to ourselves — and we still summited strong!”

  • Best for: Photographers, high-altitude trekkers, or those prone to altitude sickness.

  • Downside: More expensive due to duration and remoteness — but worth it for success and solitude.

4. Marangu Route (5–6 Days)

  • Why it’s practical: Only route with hut accommodation, great for rainy season or climbers who don’t want tents.

  • Best for: Older clients or those worried about the cold/rougher conditions.

  • Caution: Low summit success rate for 5-day version — we only recommend 6-day minimum.

  • Safari Soles Tip: Always advise clients to upgrade sleeping bags for the chilly Horombo and Kibo huts.

Favourite Campsites – and Why

Shira 2 CampLemosho, MachameOpen plains, incredible sunset/sunrise views over the Shira Plateau. Great for acclimatization. Barranco CampLemosho, MachameIconic view of the Barranco Wall. Clients always rave about the atmosphere. Karanga CampLemosho, Machame (7-day only)“Climb high, sleep low” strategy here makes this camp key for summit success. Kibo HutMaranguHigh camp for the summit push. Simple but warm huts. Third Cave CampNorthern CircuitRarely visited. Quiet, surreal, and often full of starry skies. Crater Camp (Optional) Lemosho, NorthernFor extreme trekkers — camping on the crater rim near glaciers. Cold but unforgettable. Not for all.

🧠 Best Acclimatization Strategies – That Work

✔ 1. Choose 7+ Day Itineraries

  • Routes with more than 6 days drastically increase summit chances.

  • Allows the body to adjust slowly to altitude — fewer headaches, better sleep.

✔ 2. "Climb High, Sleep Low" Principle

  • Example: On Day 4 of Lemosho, ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m) but sleep lower at Barranco Camp (3,900m).

  • This technique trains the body to handle altitude pressure better.

✔ 3. Slow and Steady Pace ("Pole Pole")

  • Our guides enforce slow pacing even at low altitudes.

  • Clients are reminded early: “The summit isn’t a race — it’s a rhythm.”

✔ 4. Hydration + Nutrition Focus

  • We monitor water intake, and our mountain chef provides high-calorie, easily digestible meals.

  • We include ginger tea, garlic soup, and energy boosters naturally to fight nausea and fatigue.

✔ 5. Optional: Pre-Acclimatization in Ngorongoro Highlands

  • Some VIP climbers choose to spend a night or two in Karatu/Ngorongoro (2,000–2,300m) before the climb to pre-adjust.

  • Improves oxygen saturation and mental readiness.

✅ What Makes Safari Soles Kilimanjaro Climbs Stand Out?

  • Licensed, Wilderness First Responder-trained guides

  • Oximeter checks 2x daily

  • Custom pace depending on fitness & altitude response

  • Dedicated summit crew (for motivation and safety during the push)

  • Private toilet tents and upgraded sleeping gear available

  • Add-ons: Safari extensions, Zanzibar post-climb beach rest, Kilimanjaro certificate + client photo feature on our socials

Real stories about how we support our clients

🛬 Client Story: When a Missed Flight Nearly Derailed the Honeymoon

In mid-July, a honeymoon couple from Canada had booked their dream safari through us — 8 days across Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and Serengeti. But due to a delay in Amsterdam, they missed their KLM connection to JRO and were re-routed through Nairobi, arriving 14 hours late with no bags. They were panicked. But our reservations team was already tracking their flight. Before they even landed:

  • We rebooked the first night’s lodge in Arusha (Gran Meliá instead of Lake Manyara).

  • We rearranged their route so they could still do Ngorongoro later, without losing a park.

  • Our airport rep met them with snacks, a SIM card, and warm blankets, knowing they were exhausted.

  • Laurent, one of our top guides, picked them up personally and said:

🙌 The Result?#

They cried — but this time from joy, not stress.

Incredible experience

I did a 5-day photo safari with my wife, the schedule was as follows: Day 1: Tarangire - Day 2&3 : Serengeti Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater Day 5: Lake Manyara I chose Safari Soles to do this tour. I was in constant contact with Bryson who was a great help in preparing for our arrival in Arusha as well as the rest of our stay in Tanzania. Bryson is a reliable, very helpful person who we can trust. We also had the good surprise of being upgraded, so we spent 3 nights in lodge and 1 night in tent. During the safari, we were led by Freddy, a specialist in animals and their environment, we learned a lot by his side. It allowed us to have a unique experience in contact with animals by allowing us time to photograph and observe them. Lula was our chef during our safari and we feasted 😋. I highly recommend

Great company

We did the tour last September, and everything was great. Bryson, who handled our reservation was especially helpful when our flight was delayed by 48h, and switched us to the next tour without any fuss! He was also very responsive concerning booking us a kind-of last minute taxi to the airport, everything ran smoothly. The tour in itself was very nice. The camping gear is not brand-new, but serviceable enough, and we had no problem sleeping on the mats. Our guide, Jacob, was on the quiet side, but very friendly. We sadly did not get to see a rhino, but it seems they are hard to spot at the end of the dry season. Lions, cheetahs, hippos and leopards more than made up for it! I certainly recommend booking with Safari Soles.

Serengeti + Ngorongoro Crater - highly recommended

We, a couple (32 years old), did the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater Safari (shared with 3 others). The tour started early in the morning heading directly to the Serengeti national park. Game drives and timetable are listed in the tour description, that's why I would like to point out the aspects that are not listed: 1) Safari Soles and other organizations We compared in Arusha itself different tour organizations and finally booked in the Safari Soles office. By the way, the office is very hard to find, so don't give up, if you really want to book with them. Bryson was our agent and explained us in detail what is included in the tour, what we can expect and what not to expect (camping for example is camping and not a luxury lodge ;)) 2) The tour itself If you don't have the time to spend many days, but don't want to miss the safari experience, this is the right tour. We had three days to spend and were happy that this combination existed: Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. In addition -this is very subjective!!- in our opinion 2 nights camping were enough and a hot shower afterwards really nice. 3) The guide Our guide was called Freddy. And it was actually his knowledge about the places what made this tour so valuable. He knew the spots where to find the animals. Normally, if you do a game drive in Serengeti or Ngorongoro you can find the 'special' animals based on the number of jeeps standing at a certain place. In our case we spotted several lions and a cheetah without any other jeep around. 4) Some numbers Just to give you an idea. We spotted in total 40 lions, more than 300 Zebras (no, we did not count these guys ;)), giraffes, elephants, gnus, buffalos, many hippos, 2 cheetahs, 1 leopard, and 1 sleeping rhino Hope this review helps you a bit, we would book every time again with Bryson and don't regret to have spent lots of time in comparing and reviewing before booking

Perfect Experience!!

I have been in shared safari tour with Safari Soles in January with lodge stay. Communication with Bryson and all the arrangements were perfect from the first day. He was very professional, made all the arrangements and informed in every stage. Our guide David Simba was great and funny guy who has deep knowledge with wild life, perfect sight to see all the animals and has great driving abilities which makes you feel safe. Our cook, Goefrey, has very talented hand and you cannot believe how he cooked all that stuff without a kitchen and everything was delicious. Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire are incredible places that you feel the wildlife, and all are far beyond that you can imagine. I totally recommend Safari Soles Tour, and my safari was really a lifetime experience with all help from them.

Wonderful trip!

We had wonderful 5 days safari tour with Safari soles! I wrote to 6 different company's reading reviews on TA. Bryson responded very quickly and answered all my questions, moreover, the offer he sent seemed the most acceptable, though not the cheapest. All communication before travel was smooth and clear. Asante sana Bryson! We had the best safari guide ever David Simba, he is very knowledgeable and experienced, gave us so much useful information not only about animals but also about nature, local people and traditions. He spotted all the animals there were possible to see - we didn't miss anything. David seemed tireless and thanks to him and our wonderful group we had days full of amazing views, useful information, and laughter! And chef Dula kept our stomachs full of the most delicious dishes it's amazing how he could make all those wonders happen in campsite kitchen with just one small gas stove and grill charcoal! He really is "stomach engineer" as David called him :) Asante sana David and Dula, if we come again hope to see both of you!

Safari Soles review

Going on an African safari has been a dream of ours for many years. When we originally started planning our trip in December 2019, we never could have guessed the impact that COVID-19 would have on the world and our plans. In June when it was announced that US travels could again travel through EU airports and flight prices were at an all-time low, we decided to go for it and booked our trip for July. We could not be more pleased of how everything went. The four-day trip through the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire was absolutely incredible. From planning to final departure, everything that the Safari Soles team did was above top notch. When some of our flights within Tanzania were canceled and we could not find alternatives, Bryson was there to help us book local airfare. We like to taste local beers during our travels, and it was a nice touch that beer was picked up for us to be enjoyed as we liked. Of course, plenty of bottled water was also provided throughout the trip. Everyone we encountered, from our phenomenal driver and guide, David, to all of the camp staff, took our health and safety very seriously. For the most part, we saw very few people each day and saw a lot more animals than people. What better way to social distance than with wild animals?! We were asked to wear masks in very limited situations but most of the staff continued to wear them whenever they were around us and our temperature was taken at every lodge before entering. The experience we had on the safari drives would not have been possible without our incredible driver and guide, David. He was knowledgeable, friendly, upbeat, and fun to be around, all of which go a long way when you spend four full days eating every meal together and spending 8 plus hours every day in a vehicle together. He worked hard to locate every animal we wanted to see, which of course, was all of them. Our favorites were the multiple lion prides we encountered, elephant, zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, and giraffe herds which we saw every day, and the rear cat species we saw including leopard, cheetah, and serval. Many other animals were also seen including hippos, hyenas, jackal, rhino, baboons, mongoose, and so many bird species! David ensured that everything was taken care of everywhere we went and even took the grueling task of teaching us some Swahili in stride. Asante sana! The accommodations that were arranged exceeded expectations as did the meals that included local fair and three courses every time. Rooms were spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Hot water was available at every camp. Our first two nights we "camped" we experienced all the benefits of every glamper's dreams including soft linens, towels, and bath robes! Complementary toiletries were also available at each camp. Our third and final night we stayed at a luxurious lodge set within the Arusha hillside where we had our own villa and as the only guest on site an infinity pool, chef, and amazing and friendly staff. Taking a trip around the world during a global pandemic wasn't something we planned on but doing so with Safari Soles was an experience we will never forget and one we would highly recommend at any time! The people of Tanzania are friendly, generous, and kind. The views are unmatched and the animals you will experience are unbelievably majestic.

Amazing experience - fantastic experience

Safari soles tours is a guarantee. They organized a three-day and two-night safari to Serengeti and Ngorongoro and everything was perfect! The guide Malisa was very good and super nice and professional, as was the cook, and we ate very well throughout the trip. We saw all the big five, too! I really need to give Bryson a round of applause and thank him so much for the way he set this up. I strongly recommend booking a safari with Safari Soles Tour!

They deserve more than 5 stars.

What an adventure from start to finish – everything was absolutely perfect. Waking up with an elephant right in front of the tent, seeing around 30 lions taking a nap, two cheetahs having lunch, lions that had just hunted a buffalo, and witnessing the migration with about 2,000 zebras and wildebeest… it’s something that’s incredibly difficult to describe in words. Our guide, Abdul, was the best, and the staff at the lodges were so friendly and kind. If you have been thinking about going on safari, stop thinking and just book your trip – you will not regret it.

Amazing trip, lots of animals and good food

If you are looking for a lovely safari trip within your budget then this is it. Just finished a 6 days safari trip with a very good guide and excellent chef who is traveling with you and prepare the most amazing food. This will make your safari trip even better and carefree. And camping will give you a unique lifetime experience although your sleep may be disturbed by guessing what type of animal sounds you're hearing around you. My contact with Bryson before the trip was clear and quick in response so I knew what to expect. And the offer gives you the information you need so you will know what to bring and not to bring to get the best out of this trip. And last but not least, we saw a lot of animals, and we found out not everybody on the same route could say that. Off course is wildlife and you can never plan what you'll see but or guide made sure to get you the best experience possible.

A fabulous safari experience

I was looking for a 7-days experience and took the 6-day Tarangine-Serengeti-Ngorongoro-lake Manyara tour and an additional coffee-waterfall-hot spring day trip. I made a lot of research before choosing Safari Soles, read reviews on different sites and asked lots of questions. I loved the balance of the company's good rating and reviews, budget-friendly price and the knowledge and support Bryson provided. The tour exceeded our expectations. We saw lots of animals including the cats we wanted to see so much - many lions, a leopard, 2 serval cats and even a mother cheetah teaching her cubs to hunt! We also were lucky to catch endless herds of migrating wildebeest in Serengeti (were there on February 8-10) and saw how a baby zebra was born! We ever visited the Ndutu region where there were lots of animals and where budget safaris usually don't go. Our dreadlocked guide Simba (David) was amazing - pleasant and cheerful, knowing all the animals and trained to spot them, telling stories when you want to hear them and just driving when you're tired. He had a cool playlist, drove well and made us feel welcome. Besides getting to know the nature and the animals, he made us a bit more familiar with the life and the people of Tanzania - so, we felt more like guests then like tourists, which we appreciated. Our cook Shydia (not sure about the spelling) could do magic - he made restaurant food using a gas stove, some pans and the food we were carrying in the jeep. The cool food we had included pizza, lasagna, a fabulous banana-chocolate cake, and also nice curries and avocado salad! I've put on quite a lot of weight during the trip because the food was very delicious and there was a lot of it. Although we booked the budget tour, the accommodation was cool. The basic but nice Arusha Tourist Inn, the Fig Tree lodge with a garden and a swimming pool, the Simba campsite at Ngorongoro with a beautiful huge tree in the middle and the lodge at Seronera with a campfire - all was cool. We expected to spend the two nights in Seronera at a campsite, but the upgrade to a lodge was a nice surprise. The price for all this was cool. Hard to imagine how many tour companies take several times more money, however, don't let you see more animals because you will see all the animals on a budget safari with a good guide. In case you're choosing the lowest price - consider that the 2-way airport transfer for the Arusha or Kili airport, accommodation for the nights before and after the safari, and all drinks including beer and wine are already included in the price. As for those who are thinking about the length of the trip - for me the trip would be incomplete without the 2 nights in Serengeti and one night on the crater rim of Ngorongoro. The night in Mto Wa Mbu is necessary for the logistics and the Tarangine park is pleasant as well, with many elephants and baobab trees. So, 5 full days of safari seem minimum to me to get some knowledge of the region. If you have 6 days, I suggest adding the waterfall-hot spring tour. If you have 7 days - add lake Manyara, it was nice too, but the waterfall and hot spring were nicer. Thank you, Simba, Bryson, Shydia and all Safari Soles stuff for our great holiday!

Wet season camping safari in Serengeti and Ngorongoro

We had rebooked this from 2020, and Bryson was very good about honoring our prior deposit and price, being flexible with dates as we were coming off a Kilimanjaro climb, as well as patient with me when I had trouble connecting with him via WhatsApp. He stopped by our hotel the night before we left to make sure, we had everything we needed and to answer any questions. We were joined by 4 other people, tour operators combined a couple groups in order to make the trip continue as planned during such a low time for tourism. Our tour spent 3 days, 2 nights in the Serengeti and 1 day, 1 night in Ngorongoro. We were picked up from our arusha hotel by our driver/guide Edee in a big safari truck, picked up a few other people, then headed towards the park with one stop to pick up camping gear and the chef, Action. Once we were in the park, it was nonstop animal viewing. It was the rainy season, so some roads were impossible to go down, and we did get stuck in the mud, briefly, twice. It added to the adventure, we never felt endangered and it was amazing to have the great migration streaming around us as we were at a standstill. So many babies! We saw much more than we expected - lions, cheetah, leopards, rhinos, elephants, civet cats, mongoose, crocodile, a huge python, baboons, vervet monkeys, cape buffalo, eland, gazelle, wildebeest, hartebeests, eagles, secretary birds, vultures, storks, cranes...I can't even name all we saw. Edee is a skilled driver and knowledgeable guide; he also has good rapport with other guides and was able to radio others to help us locate a few of the rarer animals. The teamwork among all, from many other companies and groups, was impressive. The food Action prepared was EXCELLENT and the campsites were well taken care of, flush toilets, cool showers, outlets in the dining area to recharge cameras. The tents, sleeping pads and sleeping bags provided are clean and in good condition, and assembled/disassembled for you. At night you could hear hyenas and lions, but they are so well fed by the abundance of prey that they are a non-issue to the campers. Our driver had a small issue with the vehicle, he handled it well, got it fixed quicky and didn't let it affect our experience in any way. Once we got back to Arusha, we spent a few days on our own and were still able to use the airport transfer offered by the tour. I am very impressed with Safari Soles and highly recommend them.

Most breathtaking experience of my life 🦏🐆🐘🐃🦁

We did a 5-day Safari trip and were lucky to see so many beautiful animals. We got picked up at the airport and dropped off at our hotel in Arusha (Tulia hotel and spa) where Bryson from Safari Soles awaited us to explain the coming days and to ask if we had special wishes. The next morning, we were picked up by our driver/guide Isaac who stayed with us the next 5 days. We were very lucky with Isaac as he knows the national parks by heart and always found the animals we wanted to see. Next to being a good driver he has a lot to talk about the animals, the plants and the culture in general. First day we went to Tarangire Parc were we saw most animals, although in small numbers, and hundreds of baobab trees. At night we slept in the beautiful Farm of Dreams Lodge where we were awaited by the typical singing welcome committee. The next three days we spent in the Serengeti where we slept in Mbalagati Tented camps (beautiful lodges) and Serengeti Heritage Luxury Tented Camp (comfortable tented lodges). As both locations are situated in the Serengeti you really sleep in the midst of wild animals while guards keep you safe so you can sleep in peace. In the Serengeti we saw thousands of wildebeests, antelopes and zebras, giraffes, elephants, lion prides, leopards and cheetahs and so many more beautiful animals at every second of the day. The last day we stayed at Serena Lodge which has a breathtaking view on the Ngorongoro crater before going out there on our fifth day. Here we finally saw the black rhino which made our big five complete. In the late afternoon we went back to Arusha. During the Safari we took every morning fresh hot food with us so we could have an amazing and incredible delicious picnic. Dinner and breakfast were evenly tasty and safe for our European stomachs. Maybe 5 days is too much for some people, but we truly enjoyed every second of it. Thank you so much Safari Soles and Isaac to make this an unforgettable vacation!

Perfect safari

It was such an amazing experience. Everything was perfect, jeeps were comfortable, people were so nice, helpful and friendly. We saw many animals, we did Ngorongoro and Serengeti safari, it was awesome. Our guide Isac was incredible, he told us a lot of stuff about animals and country, was very nice and friendly all the time, the same our cook Dula (I hope I written it right, sorry !), we've had amazing meals, it was on another level , he done vegetarian meals for us which was awesome. Tents were really comfy, everything about safari was just perfect, totally would recommend for everyone to go with them! But if you are going to Ngorongoro be prepared for many animals near the tent AND PACK WARM CLOTHES! it was very cold. I loved the trip and I hope will be back again next year!!

Best guide, great company!

Abu was the best guide! He was very friendly, polite, a good driver, and was excellent in teaching us about Africa, local cities, plants, etc. He is exceptionally knowledgeable. Waterfalls, hot springs and coffee making - we had a fantastic time, it couldn't have been better! I highly recommend Safari Soles Tours.

Great day in Tarangire

Tarangire was great, I went to Tarangire as an alternative to visiting Ngorongoro crater which was a little bit out of my budget, but I enjoyed very much my day in Tarangire, saw 4 of the big 5 (a lot of elephants). The agency soles were very good I will hire them again
