🐘 How Izack Outsmarted a Charging Elephant — and Saved the Day "The wind shifted. The elephant froze. And in seconds—it charged straight at us."
Most tourists would panic. But Izack, one of our most experienced safari guides with over a decade of leading tours in the wild, didn’t flinch.
He’d read the signs: a mock charge, but one that could quickly turn real. He calmly asked the clients to stay quiet, motioned the driver to cut the engine, and slowly pulled out a faded Maasai shuka from under his seat — not to wave it, but to hold it low, like a herder would.
The matriarch paused. The tension broke.
She turned, grunted, and the whole herd followed her into the bush.
Later, over bush tea, Izack explained:
“She wasn’t being aggressive. She was warning us. I just needed to show her we weren’t a threat.”
That’s the magic of a real safari guide — not just knowing the animals, but understanding their language without a word.
When you're out in the wild, you want an Izack on your team.

Best for: Older clients or those worried about the cold/rougher conditions.
Caution: Low summit success rate for 5-day version — we only recommend 6-day minimum.

Shira 2 CampLemosho, MachameOpen plains, incredible sunset/sunrise views over the Shira Plateau. Great for acclimatization. Barranco CampLemosho, MachameIconic view of the Barranco Wall. Clients always rave about the atmosphere. Karanga CampLemosho, Machame (7-day only)“Climb high, sleep low” strategy here makes this camp key for summit success. Kibo HutMaranguHigh camp for the summit push. Simple but warm huts. Third Cave CampNorthern CircuitRarely visited. Quiet, surreal, and often full of starry skies. Crater Camp (Optional) Lemosho, NorthernFor extreme trekkers — camping on the crater rim near glaciers. Cold but unforgettable. Not for all.
Routes with more than 6 days drastically increase summit chances.
Allows the body to adjust slowly to altitude — fewer headaches, better sleep.
Example: On Day 4 of Lemosho, ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m) but sleep lower at Barranco Camp (3,900m).
This technique trains the body to handle altitude pressure better.
Our guides enforce slow pacing even at low altitudes.
Clients are reminded early: “The summit isn’t a race — it’s a rhythm.”
We monitor water intake, and our mountain chef provides high-calorie, easily digestible meals.
We include ginger tea, garlic soup, and energy boosters naturally to fight nausea and fatigue.
Some VIP climbers choose to spend a night or two in Karatu/Ngorongoro (2,000–2,300m) before the climb to pre-adjust.
Improves oxygen saturation and mental readiness.

In mid-July, a honeymoon couple from Canada had booked their dream safari through us — 8 days across Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and Serengeti. But due to a delay in Amsterdam, they missed their KLM connection to JRO and were re-routed through Nairobi, arriving 14 hours late with no bags. They were panicked. But our reservations team was already tracking their flight. Before they even landed:
We rebooked the first night’s lodge in Arusha (Gran Meliá instead of Lake Manyara).
We rearranged their route so they could still do Ngorongoro later, without losing a park.
Our airport rep met them with snacks, a SIM card, and warm blankets, knowing they were exhausted.
Laurent, one of our top guides, picked them up personally and said:
They cried — but this time from joy, not stress.

Three of us were part of a five person group for a five day camping safari in Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Safari Soles staff was responsive from beginning to end. Bryson was quick to respond with a quote and promptly answered my questions. He also picked us up for transport from and to the airport right on time. Our driver/guide David Simba was enthusiastic and energetic and answered our many questions about the animals and birds we were seeing. Especially fantastic, he was able to provide us with views of amazing animals including a mother cheetah teaching her cubs to hunt, a newly-born zebra and a hyena carrying its prize to try to find a way to eat it without sharing it with several other hyenas. We saw the big five, which was exciting! Not to be outdone, Dulla our chef, prepared amazing food and accommodated our mixed group of vegetarians and meat eaters. I personally especially loved his soup courses, salads and bruschettas!
This Safari was definitely the highlight of my two months travelling around Europe and Africa. I booked 2 nights before on a Sunday and Byson was extremely helpful in helping to organize at such short notice. Lucas (the guide) was unreal. He saw animals that were impossible to see and was able to answer all the questions I was constantly firing at him about them. He was also a fantastic energy to have in the car. I would highly recommend this tour!
Safari soles tours is a guarantee. They organized a three-day and two-night safari to Serengeti and Ngorongoro and everything was perfect! The guide Malisa was very good and super nice and professional, as was the cook, and we ate very well throughout the trip. We saw all the big five, too! I really need to give Bryson a round of applause and thank him so much for the way he set this up. I strongly recommend booking a safari with Safari Soles Tour!
Great Service Bryson is a bright young man. They delivered on everything they promised. Our guide was very professional making sure our group 7 all got the attention needed
We did the tour last September, and everything was great. Bryson, who handled our reservation was especially helpful when our flight was delayed by 48h, and switched us to the next tour without any fuss! He was also very responsive concerning booking us a kind-of last minute taxi to the airport, everything ran smoothly. The tour in itself was very nice. The camping gear is not brand-new, but serviceable enough, and we had no problem sleeping on the mats. Our guide, Jacob, was on the quiet side, but very friendly. We sadly did not get to see a rhino, but it seems they are hard to spot at the end of the dry season. Lions, cheetahs, hippos and leopards more than made up for it! I certainly recommend booking with Safari Soles.
Going on an African safari has been a dream of ours for many years. When we originally started planning our trip in December 2019, we never could have guessed the impact that COVID-19 would have on the world and our plans. In June when it was announced that US travels could again travel through EU airports and flight prices were at an all-time low, we decided to go for it and booked our trip for July. We could not be more pleased of how everything went. The four-day trip through the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire was absolutely incredible. From planning to final departure, everything that the Safari Soles team did was above top notch. When some of our flights within Tanzania were canceled and we could not find alternatives, Bryson was there to help us book local airfare. We like to taste local beers during our travels, and it was a nice touch that beer was picked up for us to be enjoyed as we liked. Of course, plenty of bottled water was also provided throughout the trip. Everyone we encountered, from our phenomenal driver and guide, David, to all of the camp staff, took our health and safety very seriously. For the most part, we saw very few people each day and saw a lot more animals than people. What better way to social distance than with wild animals?! We were asked to wear masks in very limited situations but most of the staff continued to wear them whenever they were around us and our temperature was taken at every lodge before entering. The experience we had on the safari drives would not have been possible without our incredible driver and guide, David. He was knowledgeable, friendly, upbeat, and fun to be around, all of which go a long way when you spend four full days eating every meal together and spending 8 plus hours every day in a vehicle together. He worked hard to locate every animal we wanted to see, which of course, was all of them. Our favorites were the multiple lion prides we encountered, elephant, zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, and giraffe herds which we saw every day, and the rear cat species we saw including leopard, cheetah, and serval. Many other animals were also seen including hippos, hyenas, jackal, rhino, baboons, mongoose, and so many bird species! David ensured that everything was taken care of everywhere we went and even took the grueling task of teaching us some Swahili in stride. Asante sana! The accommodations that were arranged exceeded expectations as did the meals that included local fair and three courses every time. Rooms were spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Hot water was available at every camp. Our first two nights we "camped" we experienced all the benefits of every glamper's dreams including soft linens, towels, and bath robes! Complementary toiletries were also available at each camp. Our third and final night we stayed at a luxurious lodge set within the Arusha hillside where we had our own villa and as the only guest on site an infinity pool, chef, and amazing and friendly staff. Taking a trip around the world during a global pandemic wasn't something we planned on but doing so with Safari Soles was an experience we will never forget and one we would highly recommend at any time! The people of Tanzania are friendly, generous, and kind. The views are unmatched and the animals you will experience are unbelievably majestic.
e arranged a 3 day private safari over the internet and everything went very smoothly. Bryson is a very helpful and flexible coordinator with excellent spoken and written English. Our tour guide, Chaddy was outstanding. Informative, friendly with good experience and an ever-cheerful personality. Delicious local meals made by Biggy the chef made the safari complete. A truly unforgettable experience, if you know what to expect from a safari camp in Africa and have warm clothes for the cold nights in Ngorongoro, this is highly recommended!
I did a 5-day photo safari with my wife, the schedule was as follows: Day 1: Tarangire - Day 2&3 : Serengeti Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater Day 5: Lake Manyara I chose Safari Soles to do this tour. I was in constant contact with Bryson who was a great help in preparing for our arrival in Arusha as well as the rest of our stay in Tanzania. Bryson is a reliable, very helpful person who we can trust. We also had the good surprise of being upgraded, so we spent 3 nights in lodge and 1 night in tent. During the safari, we were led by Freddy, a specialist in animals and their environment, we learned a lot by his side. It allowed us to have a unique experience in contact with animals by allowing us time to photograph and observe them. Lula was our chef during our safari and we feasted 😋. I highly recommend
I went to a safari to Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater with Safari Soles and it was awesome The experience was amazing and Bryson of Safari Soles was very kind throughout the process and always answered all our questions on time when we were planning the trip The driver was very friendly and he was always looking for the animals we wanted to see and looking for our comfort Bryson booked very very nice hotels for us The experience was incredible and Safari Soles was great, I definitely recommend it
Absolutely superb experience with Safari Soles on 3-day Ngorongoro + Serengeti from Arusha: surpassed my highest expectations. I was traveling in shoulder season, so Soles contracted my tour to an operator, completely understandable. Soles stayed in close contact, answered my questions; Bryson communicated with me at the start and showed up live at the end, to make sure all went well. The operator was fabulous: Lazaro is a master driver of the 4WD, plus a font of information on the fauna. He totally made the experience for my 5-pax group. Serengeti is vast, so a lot of driving is required, and a guide who has current information; Lazaro was in constant contact with other guides, live as we passed, on CB radio, and on cell; he also helped out when another company's truck got stuck in the mud. The unexpected rock star of the safari though was Erick Ngowi, our cook/camp aide/spotter/absolutely-invaluable-everything-guy. You say "cook" in the context of camping, and I think, mixing the granola. Hardly so. Erick is formally trained to cook on the road, carrying absolutely everything with him, from portable propane stove to cutlery, and he generated meals you would be lucky to have in a hotel restaurant: giant avocados stuffed with tomato salad, just one example. I didn't go on safari for the camp food, but I'd go back for Erick's amazing cooking--not to mention just being an easy-going, friendly, stand-up travel companion. I'm grateful to Safari Soles and contract operator--namely, Bryson, Lazaro, and Erick--for a lifetime-memorable experience and highlight of my time in Africa.
We booked a 6-day budget safari through Bryson. That is, a visit to Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngoro Goro and two days of Serengeti. During which we stayed three nights in a tent in Serengeti and Ngoro Goro and spent two nights in a lodge next to Lake Manyara. It was in a word Great!! We have visited many places in the world in recent years and done all kinds of things. But this was by far the most beautiful experience we have ever had. It's so indescribably beautiful! And incredibly well arranged thanks to Bryson who takes care of the safari down to the last detail. We were picked up neatly on time, the mail with the schedule we had received was executed exactly according to plan and Bryson was easily accessible at all times. The coordination between the cook Abdullah and the guide David/Simba during the safari was great. When we came back from safaris there were delicious meals waiting. The food is great, from freshly baked sandwiches to cakes and cookies for breakfast, lunch and dinner consist of at least 5 courses. Tell us your preferences and Abdullah will take everything into account, even gluten-free and other Food needs. David knew how to find all the animals during the safaris we did every day, he knows exactly how the animals react to people. Can even repair a jeep and is on time, which gives a familiar and safe feeling. When he tells us not to stay too long it was always because there was an even cooler animal to see. He builds the excitement well and makes this safari unforgettable. Booking a safari through Bryson and asking for David and Abdullah will ensure you have a golden team and a great experience. Really highly recommended!
Well organized 3 day safari - I did the 3 day with a friend of mine. Bryson was very helpful with providing information about the tour and making it work within our schedule and budget. It’s always a memorable one when you are provided with information prior to your trip and your expectations are exceeded. I would highly recommend Safari Soles. Thanks to Safari Soles for a fantastic and memorable experience, PS we got to see the big five too which was a bonus 😀
We wanted to do a join-in safari rather than a private one that is offered by most tour operators. I have found Soles Safari here on TA and decided to book with them based on the reviews, recommendation and competitive offer. Communication with Bryson was very good from start to finish both by email and WhatsApp. He even assisted with our flights and our visas. All tour operators (including Soles Safari) use the very same Toyota Landcruiser 8- seaters with a pop-up roof that are superb, comfy, indestructible and will go through almost anything. Our driver / guide David Simba was amazing, always felt in safe hands and saw the big five! Unlike others we never got stuck in the mud thanks to Simba and the good thread on our tyres. Our Chef Dulla was brilliant who made us delicious 3-4 course dishes every day (cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner) including fresh baked bread rolls. We had an amazing time and a truly once in a lifetime experience. Whilst staying in camp sites, we saw hyenas, giraffes, elephants and buffaloes literally walking past our tent! Bring binos, pillows, some warm clothes, mosquito repellent with high deet content, 30-50 factor sun cream. Tip your guide & chef generously cuz they work really hard and deserve every single penny.
This is my first safari and indeed it became the best experience in my whole life!!! I had been so much excited about seeing wild animals throughout the tour. Can’t complain. The driver is really informative/ friendly/ helpful. Thanks to him, we spent great time in the car (in spite of long drives) and saw all the animals we wanted to meet such as Big5, giraffes, zebras and so on. The chef cooked different meal for every time! I was impressed by the fact that he even made pastries by himself, using charcoals! Also, the airport transfer was super smooth. At first you might think the tour price for safari is pricy, but actually it’s worth a lot! (Actually, the big part of the price is what foreigners have to pay to the government) Overall, I am super happy! I am now thinking about bringing my parents to this tour in the near future. I truly appreciate all the support from Safari Soles.
I am a girl from Costa Rica who made the Safari 6 days, the amazing experience, delicious food during the days of Safari. Excellent attention and managed to see the Big 5. I recommend them 100%, Super Responsible and Organized Enterprise👍🏼🦓🐘🦛🐅🐆🦒🐃
I have been in shared safari tour with Safari Soles in January with lodge stay. Communication with Bryson and all the arrangements were perfect from the first day. He was very professional, made all the arrangements and informed in every stage. Our guide David Simba was great and funny guy who has deep knowledge with wild life, perfect sight to see all the animals and has great driving abilities which makes you feel safe. Our cook, Goefrey, has very talented hand and you cannot believe how he cooked all that stuff without a kitchen and everything was delicious. Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire are incredible places that you feel the wildlife, and all are far beyond that you can imagine. I totally recommend Safari Soles Tour, and my safari was really a lifetime experience with all help from them.
It was the trip of a lifetime. Everything went so smoothly from the start. I was in contact with a company representative called Bryson. He was super responsive, polite, tolerated the million questions I asked and went out of his way to make me comfortable. Also, our guide for the safari Mr. Joel was amazing that man is something else I highly recommend asking for him specifically. With him we were able to see all of the big 5 and many other animals. Overall, it was a great experience thank you safari soles.
The best experience in Tanzania. After so many choices and exchanging the emails with 8 Safari companies finally made my decision. I booked this private tour with Bryson, because of him being so honest with me .Was so easy communicating with him. Bryson was always quick answer my question. Our guide and driver Fredrick was amazing. The guy who really loves nature and is so funny and friendly. We all just loved him. And the last we want to thank our best chef Goldhving(Godi). We were always wondering how he was making the meals in not such easy environment. But we gave him 10 for being such creative chef. We definitely would recommend Safari Soles as your next Safari tour operator.
We did the safari with safari soles to Serengeti and Ngorongoro for 3 days. We camped 2 nights at 2 places. The guide Floriani and the safari soles have a very experienced & well-equipped team to make your trip fulfilling, exciting, and safe. We spotted big four in large numbers, only big guy missing was Rhino, I have a reason to go back. 😎. The very tasty food, awesome view of African savanna, hearing hyenas and lions at dead night, a total entanglement with the wilderness.
