Company History - Who founded it, and why?

Golden Trips Tanzania was founded in 2020 by Samson Simon, a Tanzanian tourism professional with a lifelong passion for nature, adventure, and cultural heritage. Born and raised near Mount Meru, Samson developed a deep love for Tanzania’s landscapes and wildlife from an early age. After years of working in the travel industry, he recognized a need for more authentic, locally-run safari experiences that cut out the middlemen and connected travelers directly with experts on the ground.

With this vision, Golden Trips Tanzania was born — a company committed to offering high-quality, tailor-made safaris and trekking adventures across the country. Whether it's summiting the iconic Mount Kilimanjaro, witnessing the Great Migration in the Serengeti, exploring the Ngorongoro Crater, or relaxing on the white-sand beaches of Zanzibar, Golden Trips ensures every journey is immersive, ethical, and unforgettable.

Today, the company proudly employs a skilled team of safari guides, mountain specialists, and cultural ambassadors who share Samson’s mission: to showcase the real Tanzania while empowering local communities and protecting its natural treasures.

A glimpse into an exciting day with us

At Golden Trips Tanzania, our guides aren’t just drivers — they’re storytellers, trackers, and guardians of the wild. Take this unforgettable moment led by Logan, one of our expert guides with over a decade in the bush. While exploring the Serengeti, Logan noticed a sudden shift in bird calls and movement in the tall grass. Trusting his instincts, he signaled the guests to stay silent — moments later, a lioness emerged, followed by two tiny cubs. Instead of rushing away, she lay in the open, allowing guests a rare, emotional moment of connection with new life in the wild. One traveler later wrote, “Logan gave us the moment we’ll never forget — we felt part of something ancient and pure.”

Each of our guides brings something special:

Gasper – Known for his sharp tracking skills and calm energy; clients often say he spots animals others miss.

Ombeni – A walking encyclopedia of wildlife behavior and birdlife; guests praise his patience and deep knowledge.

Olais – Charismatic and passionate about Maasai culture; he weaves local stories into every journey.

Logan – Expert in predator behavior, with a reputation for finding big cats without disturbing their space.

Dickson – A Kilimanjaro veteran and safari guide, blending mountain wisdom with a sixth sense for wildlife encounters.

Real stories about how we support our clients

During a recent 7-day safari, one of our guests began feeling unwell midway through their journey in the remote area of Serengeti. It was nothing serious at first, but our guide Gasper noticed their discomfort and immediately alerted our operations team. Within minutes, we arranged for a mobile consultation with a nearby medical camp while Gasper adjusted the day’s itinerary to prioritize rest and comfort without compromising the experience.

Behind the scenes, our Arusha office coordinated with the client’s travel insurance and arranged a standby evacuation plan just in case things worsened. Fortunately, the guest recovered quickly — and the very next day, Gasper surprised them with a gentle sunrise game drive followed by a private bush breakfast to lift their spirits.

Later, the guest wrote: “It wasn’t just the wildlife that made our trip incredible — it was knowing we were genuinely cared for. Golden Trips made us feel like family.”

For us, a safari isn’t just about wildlife — it’s about people, safety, and making sure every moment is supported, no matter what challenges arise.

Our favourite spots in Tanzania

Serengeti National Park Mara River (Northern Serengeti) Watching the Great Migration river crossing between July and October is a heart-pounding experience. The tension between wildebeests, crocodiles, and predators is pure, raw nature. No matter how many times we see it — it’s unforgettable.

Seronera Valley (Central Serengeti) Known as the “Predator Capital,” this area is always alive with lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Early morning drives through this region often reveal incredible hunting scenes or big cats lounging on kopjes.

Ngorongoro Crater Ngorongoro Crater Floor (Lerai Forest & Lake Magadi) We love showing guests the massive bull elephants with huge tusks in the Lerai Forest and the flocks of flamingos on Lake Magadi. The crater is a complete ecosystem — and seeing black rhinos in the wild here still feels magical every single time.

Crater Rim Viewpoints (Sunset Stop) The views from the rim at sunset are surreal. When the light hits the crater just right, it turns golden and misty — the perfect moment for reflection, photos, and a breath of awe.

Tarangire National Park Tarangire River (Dry Season, July–October) This river becomes a lifeline and attracts huge herds of elephants. It’s also where lions, leopards, and sometimes even wild dogs gather. Watching elephants interact here — mud bathing or protecting their calves — is a guest favorite.

Baobab Alley This stretch of ancient trees creates a dramatic landscape. Our guests often say it feels like driving through a prehistoric world. It’s especially stunning at sunrise or sunset.

Lake Manyara National Park Hippo Pool & Groundwater Forest The dense groundwater forest at the entrance is alive with blue monkeys, baboons, and birds. Later, near the hippo pool, we love to stop and explain the ecosystem — while watching hippos grunt and splash just meters away.

Tree-Climbing Lions Spotting these elusive lions high in acacia trees is a thrilling moment, especially for first-time safari-goers. We never get tired of this challenge — and the excitement when guests spot them is unmatched.

Lake Eyasi Hadzabe Cultural Experience (Sunrise Hunt) Taking clients on a dawn hunt with the Hadzabe tribe is always a deeply moving and eye-opening moment. The simplicity, skill, and connection to nature these people have inspires awe in both us and our guests.

Lake Shore at Sunset When the light reflects off the salt lake and flamingos fly past in formation — it’s quiet, stunning, and peaceful. A perfect way to end the day.

Arusha National Park Ngurdoto Crater Viewpoint Often called the "Mini Ngorongoro," it’s rich in forest and wildlife. The view from the top is breathtaking, and clients are amazed that such beauty is so close to Arusha town.

Canoeing on Momella Lakes Gliding past giraffes on the shore and flocks of flamingos on the water is always a surprise for guests. It’s peaceful and exciting at once — and a great alternative to traditional game drives.

Mount Kilimanjaro (for Trekkers) Shira Plateau (Machame Route) The vastness of the plateau, with views of the summit on one side and Mount Meru on the other, is a spiritual place. It’s often the moment trekkers start to feel the magnitude of their journey.

Stella Point at Sunrise Reaching Stella Point just before sunrise is emotional every time. The exhaustion turns to pure joy as the first light hits the glaciers and clouds below.

What are your favourite Kilimanjaro routes, campsites, or acclimatization strategies — and why?

1. Lemosho Route (8 Days) – Our Top Recommendation#

Why it’s ideal:

  • Best for acclimatization: Longest approach allows “climb high, sleep low” strategy.

  • Scenic diversity: Begins in lush rainforest, moves through heath, alpine desert, and glacier zones.

  • Less crowded: The western approach is more peaceful, especially in the first days. Key Campsites:

  • Shira 1 & 2 Camps: Open plateaus with sweeping views.

  • Barranco Camp: Iconic location with views of the Great Barranco Wall and southern glaciers.

  • Karanga Camp: Crucial acclimatization stop before Barafu (base camp).

2. Machame Route (7 Days) – Best for Adventurous Trekkers#

Why it’s ideal:

  • Scenic & popular: Nicknamed the "Whiskey Route" for its beauty and challenge.

  • Good acclimatization profile: Includes the climb to Lava Tower and descent to Barranco Camp. Key Campsites:

  • Lava Tower (acclimatization hike): Climb to 4,630m and sleep low for best effect.

  • Barafu Camp: Base camp before summit — early dinner and rest are critical here.

3. Rongai Route (6-7 Days) – Best for Rainy Season or Quiet Treks#

Why it’s ideal:

  • Driest route: Approaches from the north, ideal during wet months.

  • Gentle slopes: Great for those who prefer a steadier incline. Key Campsites:

  • Mawenzi Tarn Camp: Beautiful alpine lake near Mawenzi Peak.

  • Kibo Hut: Final camp before summit push.

Acclimatization Strategies#

  • Extra Day at Karanga or Shira 2: We recommend adding a day to help the body adapt and reduce summit failure due to altitude sickness.

  • "Climb high, sleep low": We build daily elevation gains with descents for optimal adjustment.

  • Slow & steady pace ("pole pole"): Our guides set a deliberately slow pace to preserve energy and oxygen efficiency.

  • Hydration & nutrition: We monitor water intake and provide warm, energizing meals high in carbohydrates.

Health & Safety Focus#

  • Daily oxygen saturation and pulse checks.

  • Qualified Wilderness First Responder (WFR)-trained guides.

  • Emergency oxygen and evacuation protocols always in place.

A glimpse into an exciting day of safari with us

From Chalkboards to Charging Rhinos: My Journey from Teacher to Safari Guide My name is Samson, and before I was leading travelers across the Serengeti and up the slopes of Kilimanjaro, I stood in front of a chalkboard as a schoolteacher in Arusha. During those early days, I spent weekdays teaching and weekends organizing school trips to nearby national parks. I loved watching my students' eyes light up as I told stories about elephants, lions, and the wonders of Tanzania’s wildlife. Over time, I realized something important—I didn’t just want to talk about the wild. I wanted to live it. So I took a leap of faith. I left the classroom and enrolled in Tourism Studies at the Open University of Tanzania. Three years later, I graduated, hopeful—but quickly discovered that breaking into the safari industry wouldn’t be easy. Undeterred, I pivoted. I joined the College of African Wildlife Management, Mweka, where I completed an intensive mountain guiding course. That led me to a respected company in Moshi specializing in Kilimanjaro climbs. I summited Kilimanjaro dozens of times. And every time I came down, my dream of becoming a safari guide burned brighter. Eventually, I returned to Arusha—my hometown—and landed a role at a small safari company that gave me my first real break. I quickly noticed that guides who spoke more than just English were in high demand. So, I took it upon myself to learn German—self-taught through YouTube and daily practice. That dedication opened new doors. A large, Dutch-owned safari company hired me as a German-speaking guide, and with them, I explored every corner of Tanzania—from Tarangire to Ruaha, Serengeti to Selous—staying in hundreds of lodges and creating lifelong memories for travelers from around the world. But my journey didn’t stop there. I wanted to do more than guide—I wanted to empower others. That’s why I started my own safari company—not just to offer unforgettable experiences, but to create opportunities for skilled Tanzanians, especially women who dream of careers in tourism. Today, some of my guides are professionals I trained personally. Others are top-tier experts I worked with in previous roles. Now, I lead a proudly Tanzanian-owned and steadily growing safari company trusted by over 500 travelers worldwide. I personally know the lodges I recommend. I know the guides I assign. And I’ve built a team that shares my values, my standards, and my love for this country. 👉 If you’re looking for more than just a safari—if you want an experience guided by heart, expertise, and local knowledge— Book with us. Let’s turn your African dream into a journey you’ll never forget.

Both guides were very professional. Skilled drivers with a great understanding of the area

Wonderful experience! Our group saw every animal we could have imagined seeing and more! Extremely impressed with both Kulet and Ombeni and their driving skills and familiarity with the area! At no point during the trip was the group ever bored, always something to see or an interesting conversation to be had with the guides! I would recommend this trip to anyone who is looking for an adventure!

Immersive, Educational, and Absolutely Beautiful

As a first-time traveler to Africa, I didn’t know what to expect, but Golden Trips made it seamless and deeply rewarding. Our guide, Gasper, was an expert in animal behavior and ecology. He helped us track a pride of lions and even pointed out a serval cat I would have completely missed. What impressed me most was how ethical and eco-conscious the team was – they emphasized respecting animals and minimized impact on nature. We also stopped at a small school supported by Golden Trips, which was incredibly touching. My accommodation was in well-situated tented camps with friendly staff and delicious meals. A truly immersive, educational, and visually stunning experience!

A Flawless Tanzanian Adventure from Start to Finish

My wife and I have travelled to over 40 countries, but nothing compares to the experience we had with Golden Trips Tanzania. We did a 6-day safari through Arusha NP, Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. The planning process was effortless, thanks to Samson, who suggested a route that balanced wildlife and cultural exposure. Our guide Manaki was professional, friendly, and incredibly sharp-eyed. We stayed at Tanzania Bush Camp in central Serengeti, which offered luxury in the middle of nowhere — hot showers, great food, and even WiFi. The real highlight, though, was seeing a lion pride with cubs on a sunset game drive. We parked a respectful distance away and just watched in awe. Meals during the trip were excellent — both in the bush and at lodges. They catered to my gluten allergy with no fuss. We ended the trip with a crater descent into Ngorongoro, where we saw rhinos, hippos, and a leopard! Golden Trips also arranged a last-minute visit to Shanga Village for shopping and culture before our flight. We’ll be talking about this trip for years to come.

Spectacular Sights and Seamless Service!

Golden Trips gave me and my wife a once-in-a-lifetime experience in Tanzania. It was my wife’s dream to see elephants in the wild, and I wanted to climb Kilimanjaro. We managed to do both in a single trip with Golden Trips coordinating it all seamlessly. We began with a safari in Tarangire, where the sheer number of elephants left us speechless. Our guide Dickson was born in the area and knew the parks like the back of his hand. We then moved to Ngorongoro Crater—what a surreal place. Rhinos, lions, flamingos... all within one caldera. The Kilimanjaro trek via the Marangu route followed. I can’t say it was easy, but our guides Bob and Noah were not just professionals—they were motivators, medics, and entertainers. The food on the trek blew my mind. Hot soups after cold hikes, chapatis in the morning, and warm tea at each stop. Cheeks the chef deserves a Michelin star! The company also provided cultural experiences that didn’t feel like tourist traps. Visiting the Hadzabe people and witnessing their way of life was an eye-opener. We came home feeling enriched and energized. If you’re thinking about Tanzania, look no further. These folks are pros.

A Perfectly Tailored Safari in Every Way

We’re a family from Cork who had never been on safari before, and after weeks of research, we chose Golden Trips Tanzania — and we’re so glad we did! Every aspect, from airport pickup to the final day in Arusha, was managed with professionalism and genuine warmth. Our guide, Bariki, had a gentle energy and incredible knowledge. We explored Lake Manyara, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater. Highlights included seeing a rhino on our last day and enjoying freshly prepared bush lunches in the wild. We also loved the rhythm of our days — early starts, incredible drives, and relaxed evenings by the campfire. Golden Trips catered beautifully to our preferences, including food sensitivities and travel pace. They’re a gem of a company.

Amazing safari tour with Ombeni

Before the trip , the communication and the organization of safari tour with Irene from Golden Trips were perfect. She was very responsive and has ensured me about all details as it was the first time that we were coming to Tanzania. Our safari experience was also amazing thanks to our great guide Ombeni, a young, dynamic and very experienced guide. He showed us many animals ( 4 of big Fives ) and explained a lot of things about wild life and Masai culture with passion. He was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. He speaks French and English fluently and he was able to sort out all kind of challenges that we encountered. We were unlucky during the first day in Serengeti with the safari car as one of the tires was burst, we lost lots of time and we arrived late to our lodge. However these challenges have been minor as the experience in overall was really great. The visit to Masai village and the Ngorongoro crater were also incredible. We stayed in super nice campings where the staff was very polite and friendly. We would definitely recommend. Thanks Asante Golden Trips!

Unforgettable adventure

We had an unforgettable experience on our family safari, and a huge part of that was thanks to Golden Trips. From the very beginning, they made sure every detail was perfectly tailored to our needs, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable adventure. Our guide, Gaspa, was nothing short of exceptional—professional, respectful, and always punctual. He had an amazing ability to spot animals from incredible distances that we could hardly even see, making us feel like we were on a truly special expedition. Thanks to his skill and expertise, we had the privilege of seeing the Big 5 and so much more. We would do it all over again if we could.

Golden Trips gave us and Intimate Glimpse into Wild Africa

As a solo female traveler, safety and genuine experiences are always top of mind—and Golden Trips delivered both beyond expectation. From the first email with Irene, I felt seen and heard. She crafted an itinerary that was ideal for me: 6 days exploring the parks and two days on the island of Zanzibar for some R&R. Every game drive was a thrill. On my third day in the Serengeti, we spotted a cheetah with four cubs—something even my guide, Emmanuel, said he rarely sees. His passion and respect for the wildlife made me feel like I was on a documentary set. The accommodations exceeded expectations. I had assumed ‘tented camps’ meant roughing it, but they were more luxurious than most hotels I've stayed at in Europe. What stood out, however, was the human connection—sharing tea with Maasai elders, watching children sing Swahili songs, learning how to throw a spear. These weren’t 'activities'—they were genuine moments. As a woman traveling alone, I felt entirely safe and supported. The entire team—from Joel in operations to my driver and the camp staff—treated me with care and dignity. I’ll be telling stories from this trip for years to come.

4 Days Private Safari to Serengeti and Ngorongoro

I recommend Golden trips if you are considering a safari in Tanzania parks. Right from the beginning first contact Irene was very responsive and accommodating of my requirements. She was always available on WhatsApp, email and video calls. Joel's suggestion of adding Ndutu to my itinerary was great - i experienced wildebeest calving and migration. Guide Gasper has good knowledge of animals (and their behaviours) and also of the Masai tribe. He was enthusiastic of getting out early (sometimes even before the park gates opened) and driving to the right spots for me to experience the "actions"! Fantastic Safari Guide - Ombeni

We had a fantastic time while on safari with our guide, Ombeni. He was extremely kind, friendly and knowledgeable about all the animals on safari. He was willing to go the extra mile to help in anything he could. He speaks both English and French too, as well as his own local language. I would highly recommend Ombeni as a guide, he really made our trip one to remember! If you plan on travelling with this company, ensure you request Ombeni as your guide, you will not regret it.

Private Safari tour to Nyerere National Park

We had the most incredible experience with Golden Trips Tanzania! From the very beginning, communication was seamless and professional, making the entire planning process stress-free. Our guides, Michael and Silas, were absolutely outstanding. Their extensive knowledge of the wildlife, landscapes, and local culture brought every moment to life. They went above and beyond to ensure we had the best possible experience, always prioritizing our safety and comfort while sharing fascinating insights at every turn. The entire trip felt meticulously planned, and every detail was executed flawlessly. From start to finish, we felt we were in the best hands and that the experience was worth every dollar. If you’re considering a safari adventure, we cannot recommend this company enough! Thank you for making our trip so unforgettable—it’s a memory we’ll cherish forever.

Our Best Family Holiday Yet

Traveling as a senior couple, we had some hesitations, but this was the best holiday we’ve had in years. Everything was well-paced and thoughtful. Our guide, Deo, was incredibly patient, stopping whenever we needed and making sure we were always comfortable. The Ngorongoro Crater was breathtaking, and I still can’t believe we saw a black rhino from such a close distance. The Serengeti, with its endless plains, was straight out of a documentary. The vehicle was comfortable, the food was amazing, and the itinerary was balanced – not too hectic, but full of highlights. Golden Trips took care of everything so we could relax and enjoy. We’d recommend this to any senior traveler considering a safari.

Stress-Free, Warm-Hearted, and Wildly Beautiful

We’ve done a fair bit of travel in our lives, but our safari with Golden Trips ranks among the top. We wanted something relaxed and meaningful, and that’s exactly what we got. Joel helped us fine-tune a six-day route, including a Kilimanjaro base hike, Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro. The pace was never rushed, and our guide, Frank, was not only well-informed but truly fun to travel with. What stood out most was the level of personal attention — we felt seen, not just like tourists on a conveyor belt. Whether it was the handpicked accommodations or the picnic breakfasts with giraffes nearby, it felt magical. Highly recommended for travelers wanting a warm, thoughtful safari operator.

Seamless Planning, Spectacular Experience

Our journey with Golden Trips was nothing short of magical. My wife and I traveled with our two teenagers and were a bit concerned about keeping them engaged, but our guide Ombeni handled it brilliantly. He was charismatic, knew how to connect with the kids, and taught us all a lot about the ecosystems we were moving through. We camped under the stars in Serengeti and even heard hyenas calling at night – something we’ll never forget. The flexibility of the itinerary was great, allowing us time to relax between drives. Cultural visits, especially with the Datoga tribe, were memorable and enlightening. Thank you, Golden Trips, for an amazing and stress-free holiday.
