Ngorongoro Farm House is a spacious lodge just outside Karatu, styled around a colonial coffee plantation. Rooms here generally range from $430–470 per night in high season, dropping to about $255–280 per night in low season (Mar–May). This pricing places it at the upper end of Karatu’s mid-range, edging close to luxury.

From a safari perspective, the lodge is about 40-50 minutes from the Ngorongoro gate, which means guests typically leave at 6:30 am and reach the crater floor around 7:50 am. That timing is still good for catching predators, but rim lodges hold the advantage of being on the floor at dawn.

Compared with Marera Valley Lodge and Tloma Lodge (smaller and more intimate), Farm House feels larger and more polished. Against Kitela Lodge (luxury sister property), Farm House is more affordable but maintains a similar plantation-style atmosphere. It’s particularly good for couples or families who want comfort and atmosphere, but don’t feel the need to splurge on rim lodges.

Rooms

The chalet type bedrooms are situated at ground level with a private terrace or balcony. They overlook the gardens and/or coffee plantation and come with a double bed or two single beds. The rooms have a bathroom with a shower. The family room consists of two rooms with a door connecting the two rooms.

  • Around 52 chalet-style rooms, each with en-suite bathroom, verandas, and fireplaces.

  • Swimming pool, large gardens, and terraces with crater-rim views in the distance.

  • Spacious main lodge with lounges, bar, and veranda dining.

  • Atmosphere: plantation-style, polished but not over-the-top, and able to handle groups without losing its charm.

Accessibility

Ngorongoro Farm House is only 5 kms from the Lolduare entrance gate. From Arusha it is 150 km, aproximately 2 hours and 30 minutes drive on tarmac road.
