Perché ci fidiamo di loro

Sam is a one-man powerhouse who takes on just a few private safaris a year, giving each one his full heart and attention — from the moment you reach out until long after you’re home. He personally curates every trip with care, choosing a mix of charming, well-run lodges and some unexpected off-the-beaten-path gems that make your journey feel truly special. His guides are fantastic — kind, knowledgeable, and incredible at spotting wildlife while adapting the pace of the safari to what you want, not some fixed script. You’ll be in a clean, well-maintained 4x4 Land Cruiser with plenty of space, charging ports, and small touches like free tea or coffee to keep things cozy on the road. What stands out most is Sam’s communication and honesty — no hidden surprises, no last-minute changes. Just a beautifully run trip, full of thoughtful moments, the way a safari should feel.

Company History - Who founded it, and why?

Meseno Adventures was founded by me, Samwel Masaga, a Tanzanian safari guide with a background in Wildlife Management and over a decade of experience in the field. I started my career guiding clients through Tanzania’s national parks, translating for NGOs, and working with conservation-focused tourism projects. Over time, I realized many safari companies were missing what mattered most: human connection, flexibility, and genuine care for both nature and travelers.

I started Meseno Adventures not just to offer tours, but to give people from around the world a deeper, more meaningful experience of Tanzania—one where they feel safe, seen, and part of something unforgettable. “Meseno” means “smiles” in my mother tongue, and that’s exactly what we aim to create.

A glimpse into an exciting day of safari with us

A moment that still gives me chills happened with our senior guide Joseph, who’s been guiding for over 12 years. In the Serengeti, he noticed vultures circling and subtle movements in tall grass—signs that others had passed by without noticing. He quietly rerouted the vehicle off the usual track and signaled for silence.

Within minutes, a leopard emerged with a fresh impala kill, dragging it up an acacia tree right in front of our guests. The timing, instinct, and knowledge it took to predict that moment? That’s not luck—it’s experience. One of our clients said afterward, “It felt like Joseph was tuned into the rhythm of the wild. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Our favourite safari lodges and tented camps

Serengeti National Park • Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge: Stunning views, especially at sunrise. Guests love the comfort of a luxury lodge combined with the wild sounds of nature. Their chef is also incredible—vegetarians and meat lovers both leave happy. • Suenos de Africa: Small, intimate, and beautifully designed with African decor. The staff remembers your name and your drink by the second night. Great location during the migration season.

Ngorongoro Crater • Ngorongoro Serena Lodge: The views into the crater are unmatched, and the stonework blends with the landscape beautifully. It’s a great mix of comfort and location. Guests always appreciate the easy access to early morning game drives. • Ngorongoro Tortilis Camp: It’s tucked into the forest, making it feel wild yet safe. Their eco-conscious approach aligns with our values, and the team makes excellent packed breakfasts.

Tarangire National Park • Sangaiwe Tented Lodge: Built on a hill with views of the baobab-studded plains. It’s peaceful, not crowded, and often gets elephants wandering near the lodge. The local ownership and employment give it a strong community feel. • Tarangire Simba Lodge: Their pool overlooks a waterhole, and during the dry season, elephants come right up while guests sip coffee or wine. It’s unforgettable.

Lake Manyara National Park • Escarpment Luxury Lodge: Overlooks the lake from high above. The rooms are huge, private, and the deck views at sunset are magic. Perfect place to unwind after a game drive.

Arusha National Park • Hatari Lodge: Historic, charming, and tucked in the forest near Mount Meru. It’s a favorite for clients who love old-world charm mixed with conservation stories—once home to actors from Hatari!, the 1960s film.

Zanzibar • Upendo Beach House (Michamvi): Ideal for couples and honeymooners. It feels private and exclusive, with infinity views and thoughtful design. • Zanzibar Queen Hotel (Matemwe): Great for families or solo travelers—clean, laid-back, with easy access to local snorkeling and diving spots.

What are your favourite Kilimanjaro routes, campsites, or acclimatization strategies — and why?

At Meseno Adventures, our favorite route for Kilimanjaro is the 7-day Machame Route. It offers a great balance between scenic variety and proper acclimatization. Clients get to experience multiple ecological zones—from lush rainforest to the alpine desert and eventually the glacial summit, which keeps the trek engaging both physically and visually.

We especially recommend Shira Camp 2 and Barranco Camp. Shira 2 is ideal for its wide, open views of Kibo and the valleys below, which are great for morale. Barranco is a favorite not only because of the dramatic views of the Barranco Wall but also because it provides a solid acclimatization point before ascending to Karanga and Barafu. It’s an excellent place to “climb high, sleep low.”

In terms of acclimatization strategy, we insist on a minimum 7-day climb (never 5 or 6), with a strong emphasis on slow pacing (“pole pole”), daily health checks, and a proper hydration routine. Our guides, especially Khatib and Abduel, are trained in mountain medicine and understand when a client needs to rest, hydrate, or adjust pace before issues escalate. That kind of proactive care is what gets our clients to the summit safely.

Our favourite spots in Tanzania

Serengeti National Park • Moru Kopjes: This rocky outcrop area often hides big cats. The scenery is unique, and it gives clients a break from the wide open plains. • Mara River crossings (during migration): It never gets old. The drama, tension, dust, crocodiles—it’s pure wild Africa. Every crossing is different.

Ngorongoro Crater • The Lerai Forest: Elephants here are huge and wise-looking. I love the quiet moments when we just sit and watch a bull elephant stroll through the misty forest. • Lake Magadi: During the right season, it turns pink with flamingos. Clients are always surprised by how beautiful and peaceful it feels.

Tarangire National Park • Silale Swamp: It attracts hundreds of elephants during the dry season, and I love how alive the area feels—zebras, wildebeests, buffalo, all moving in sync. • Baobab valley at sunset: You won’t find a more iconic African scene. Clients go quiet, and some have even cried. That’s how moving it can be.

Lake Manyara National Park • Hot Springs (Maji Moto): It’s unexpected and surreal—a natural geothermal spot right in the park. People love walking down to it, even just for photos. • Tree-climbing lions: When we spot one lounging on an acacia, it becomes the highlight of the day.

What moments or parts of the mountain do you still find magical — even after climbing hundreds of times?

Two moments on Kilimanjaro still feel magical, no matter how many times we’ve guided: • Sunrise at Stella Point: After a long, cold summit push in the dark, reaching Stella Point just as the sun begins to rise behind Mawenzi feels like standing on another planet. It’s emotional for almost everyone—clients often cry, hug, or simply sit down and soak in the light over the glacier. It reminds us why we do this work. • The walk through the cloud forest on Day 1 or 2: Whether it’s the Machame or Lemosho route, the thick, mossy forest filled with bird calls and distant colobus monkeys is such a peaceful, grounding start to the climb. It’s where people transition from everyday life to the rhythm of the mountain. Watching clients slow down, breathe differently, and start to connect with nature again is always a quiet highlight for us.

Real stories about how we support our clients

In 2023, a British couple traveling with us fell ill halfway through their Northern Circuit safari. It turned out the husband had a severe food allergy reaction, triggered not by something from our team, but a snack he’d picked up at a roadside shop.

We immediately activated our emergency protocol. Our guide contacted our office while driving toward the nearest town with a private clinic. Meanwhile, our office team coordinated with their insurance and had a local doctor ready on arrival. We booked them a comfortable lodge nearby, extended their tour by two days at no extra cost, and assigned a private guide for when they were ready to continue.

They later wrote: “We’ve traveled a lot, but we’ve never felt safer in a crisis than we did with Meseno.”

A complete and honest safari company

I liked that Meseno didn’t overpromise. They were honest: animal sightings are unpredictable, and weather can change—but they still made the experience feel rich and fulfilling. We saw so many animals, but also visited a local village and met a Maasai elder. That cultural element made the safari feel even more real. Good vehicle, respectful team, and a business I’d support again

Safe, skilled, and deeply personal

raveling solo as a woman, safety is a big deal. Meseno Adventures earned my trust from day one. The drivers were always early, the accommodations safe and lovely, and my guide treated me like a sister. He even helped me learn some Swahili phrases! Every detail—from packed lunches to wildlife briefings—was thoughtful. I’m already recommending them to friends in Oslo.

Safari + mountain + beach = perfect trip

Meseno Adventures built a full itinerary for us: safari in Serengeti, Kilimanjaro base hike, then chilling in Zanzibar. The transitions between locations were smooth, and the logistics were handled with care. I appreciated the quick responses on WhatsApp and the honest advice about what to pack and expect. No time was wasted, but it never felt rushed. Great balance between adventure and downtime.

Kilimanjaro + Safari = Life highlight

Climbed with Khatib, who’s as much a mentor as he is a mountain guide. Then headed to Serengeti with Kelvin. Both pros. Both kind. Sam handled the transition perfectly — no hiccups. I didn’t expect the vehicles to be this comfortable. They’re built for the bush, but you ride like royalty.

We could tell Meseno is run with heart. Sam was direct, honest, and precise — rare in this industry. Our vehicle had every comfort we needed, and our guide, Kelvin, went out of his way to find a cheetah for us (and he did!). Every part of the trip was handled with care.

High-end feel with genuine local roots

Meseno doesn’t feel like a big chain, but it delivers like one. Sam handles communication with the confidence of a pro, and the team works in sync. Our safari vehicle looked brand new, with AC and a fridge that was actually cold (not always the case in Africa!). Kelvin guided us through Ngorongoro with insight and respect. Would travel with them again in a second.

The vehicle made a huge difference

You’ll be in the car a lot on safari, and Meseno nailed that part — clean, cool, and smooth. The fridge was fully stocked, and having outlets onboard meant no battery anxiety. Sam coordinated it all with ease, and our guide, Abduel, was informative without overwhelming us with info. Subtle excellence.

From the first email, Sam made everything simple. His English is excellent, and he explained the itinerary clearly without overselling. When we landed in Arusha, everything was already organized. The vehicle had AC, a small fridge with cold drinks, and even charging ports. Our guide Kelvin was sharp, funny, and knew exactly where to find the animals. We saw lions on day one! Best part? A life-changing climb to Kilimanjaro’s summit

Trained for months for this, but nothing prepared me for the emotional rush of standing at Uhuru Peak. Meseno Adventures didn’t just guide me—they supported, encouraged, and celebrated with me every step of the way. Our guide, Paulo, was patient and deeply knowledgeable. The team paced us perfectly, monitored our health daily, and kept the morale high with songs and jokes at camp. This wasn’t just a bucket list experience—it was a personal breakthrough

This was our first time in Tanzania, and we were blown away by how smoothly everything went thanks to Meseno. The highlight for us was definitely a Mount Kilimanjaro trek via the Machame Route. I was nervous about the climb, but the guides were so encouraging, and the team was prepared for everything. The food was surprisingly good, and they kept a close eye on how everyone was feeling.
