Masengota Safari Company is a locally owned and operated safari and travel company based in Tanzania, dedicated to delivering authentic, memorable, and responsible travel experiences across East Africa. With a deep passion for wildlife, nature, and local cultures, we specialize in creating tailor-made safaris and adventure journeys that showcase the very best of Tanzania. We offer a wide range of travel experiences, including wildlife safaris, cultural tours, beach holidays, mountain trekking, and private guided tours. Our itineraries cover Tanzania’s most iconic destinations such as Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Zanzibar, ensuring guests enjoy both adventure and comfort. At Masengota Safari Company, we pride ourselves on our experienced local guides, personalized service, and commitment to sustainable tourism. We work closely with local communities and eco-friendly partners to ensure that tourism benefits both travelers and the people who call these destinations home. Whether traveling solo, as a family, or in a group, Masengota Safari Company is committed to providing safe, reliable, and unforgettable journeys that leave lasting memories and meaningful connections with Africa’s natural beauty and heritage.
We’ve travelled with Hamza and followed his work over the years, from his time guiding for some of Tanzania’s oldest and largest safari companies to building Masengota Safari Company since 2015. He has over a decade of hands-on guiding experience, with deep knowledge of parks, wildlife behaviour, and the realities of running smooth, well-paced safaris. Many guides trained and employed by Hamza go on to be hired by major safari companies, which says a lot about the standard he quietly maintains. His strength is running well-organised trips using solid mid-range camps as well as established luxury properties such as Serena, Four Seasons, and Melia lodges. Hamza operates without noise or hype, but anyone travelling with him is in good, experienced hands and can expect a reliable, well-run safari.

On an early morning game drive in the Serengeti, just as the sun was breaking over the plains, one of our senior safari guides noticed something most people would have missed—a sudden silence. No birds. No insects. Just stillness. He quietly stopped the vehicle and asked the guests to wait. Minutes later, a pride of lions emerged from the tall grass, moving with purpose. Our guide had recognized the warning signs of a hunt about to happen—the behavior of the wind, the direction of the grass movement, and the absence of bird calls. He positioned the vehicle downwind, at a respectful distance, ensuring the lions were undisturbed while giving guests a perfect, natural view. What followed was a rare and breathtaking scene: a coordinated lion hunt at sunrise—raw, powerful, and completely unscripted. The guests sat in silence, some with tears in their eyes, realizing they were witnessing something few people ever see. Afterward, the guide didn’t celebrate the sighting. Instead, he spoke quietly about respect for wildlife, patience, and understanding nature rather than chasing it. That moment captures what sets our safari guides apart: years of experience, deep intuition, and a profound respect for the wild. This is not just guiding—it’s storytelling written by nature itself.

Location & Wildlife Access: Proximity to wildlife-rich areas, minimizing drive time.
Comfort vs Value: Quality facilities suited to the client’s budget and preferences.
Service & Guiding: Knowledgeable guides, personalized attention, and warm hospitality.
Atmosphere: Lodge character — from rustic bush camps to modern luxury.
Sustainability: Support for conservation and community initiatives.
Client Fit: Matching lodges to traveller type — families, honeymooners, photographers, or adventure seekers.
Why we recommend it most often:
Excellent “climb high, sleep low” profile, which greatly improves acclimatization
Very high summit success rate when done in 7 days
Diverse scenery (rainforest, moorland, alpine desert) keeps clients motivated
Well-spaced camps allow proper rest and monitoring of clients Favourite campsites on Machame:
Shira Camp – open views and early altitude exposure done safely
Barranco Camp – ideal acclimatization altitude; clients sleep well here
Karanga Camp – crucial extra night that reduces summit-day fatigue Best for: First-time climbers, physically fit clients, and those wanting the best balance of challenge and safety.
Why it’s ideal for many clients:
Starts at a lower-traffic western side of the mountain
Longest acclimatization time of all routes
Gradual altitude gain reduces risk of altitude sickness
More wildlife sightings in the lower forest zone Favourite campsites on Lemosho:
Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree Camp) – low first-night altitude = gentle start
Shira 1 & Shira 2 Camps – wide-open plateau with excellent acclimatization
Karanga Camp – smooth transition before summit night Best for: Clients who prioritize safety, photographers, and those who prefer quieter routes.
Why we choose it seasonally:
Drier northern side of Kilimanjaro during long and short rains
Steady, less steep ascent—great for older clients
Fewer crowds compared to southern routes Favourite campsites on Rongai:
Simba Camp – gentle altitude increase, good sleep
Kikelewa Camp – peaceful location with strong acclimatization value Best for: Climbers traveling in April–May or November, or those wanting a quieter trek.
We strongly recommend 7 or 8-day climbs. Shorter itineraries significantly increase altitude-related issues and reduce enjoyment.
Routes like Machame and Lemosho naturally support this, especially:
Lava Tower day hikes
Extra night at Karanga Camp
Our guides strictly control pace—not fitness speed—to protect acclimatization. Clients often say this is the most important factor.
Oxygen saturation checks
Symptom screening every evening
Immediate response if a client struggles
Hot, high-energy meals prepared fresh
Constant reminders to drink 3–4 liters per day
Warm drinks in the evenings to aid recovery
These routes and strategies are selected because they:
Maximize summit success
Reduce medical risk
Improve comfort and confidence
Create a positive memory—even for those who don’t summit For us, a successful climb means clients come down healthy, proud, and smiling, not exhausted or rushed.
1. Sunrise at Stella Point Reaching Stella Point just as the sun breaks over the horizon is something we never get used to. The cold, the silence, and the slow change of colors over Mawenzi and the plains below create a powerful sense of achievement. What makes this moment truly magical is watching our clients realize they’ve made it—many are exhausted, emotional, and proud all at once. No matter how many times we stand there, that shared feeling of victory never fades. 2. The First Steps Out of the Rainforest The transition from the lush rainforest into the open moorland still feels special. After hours of walking under tall trees with birds and colobus monkeys, the landscape suddenly opens up and Mount Kilimanjaro reveals itself in full scale. For first-time trekkers, this is often the moment when the mountain feels real—and seeing that shift in their faces, from curiosity to awe, is something we always look forward to. These moments remind us why we keep coming back to the mountain: not just for the summit, but for the quiet, powerful experiences along the way that connect people deeply to Kilimanjaro.

During a Kilimanjaro climb on the Machame Route, one of our clients began to struggle with altitude on the way to Barranco Camp. It wasn’t dramatic, but our guide noticed the small signs immediately: loss of appetite, slower movement, and unusual quietness. This is where experience matters. The team stopped pushing the schedule. The lead guide stayed close to the client, set a slower pace, and reassured them calmly, while the assistant guide managed the rest of the group so no one felt stressed or rushed. That evening, the guides carried out regular health checks, encouraged hydration, prepared light food, and stayed awake through the night to monitor the client. By morning, although the client felt slightly better, our guides made the difficult but responsible decision not to continue upward. One guide and a porter escorted the client safely down to lower altitude, arranging accommodation and ensuring they were comfortable and emotionally supported not made to feel like they had failed. A few days later, the client sent us a message saying they were disappointed not to reach the summit, but deeply grateful for how supported and respected they felt throughout the process. They said the care, honesty, and humanity shown by the team mattered more than standing at the top. For us, this moment defines who we are. Success isn’t only measured by summits or sightings it’s measured by how we look after people when things don’t go as planned.

Our charming guide, Moki from Masengota Safaris Company, assisted us to arrange the trip to Gombe Stream National Park, which is the home to Jane Goodall's famous chimpanzees. Moki arranged everything, starting from the flights from Dar Es Salaam to Kigoma and back, the boat ride to Gombe, two nights stay within the park, and trekking to see the chimps. The complicated travelling was calm and passed quickly due to his perfect arrangements. Moreover, Moki was extremely friendly, warm and engaging. He shared with us many stories that shed light on the life and culture in Tanzania, we had many wonderful conversations. Moki was extremely flexible and willingly accommodated and facilitated spontaneous interactions with local people. His vast connections with kind people all over led us to many exceptional places and viewings. I have been living in Tanzania for several years and this trip was one of my top experiences. I highly recommend Masengota Safaris , and Moki, in particular!!
Our guide Exaud Song, was extremely professional, yet warm and engaging. His vast knowledge of the flora and fauna unique to each park we visited was evident. He was very skilled at reading the landscape and animal behaviour to lead us to many exceptional viewings. His was extremely flexible and willingly accommodated and facilitated spontaneous interactions with local children etc. We had many wonderful conversations. Would highly recommend Masengota Safaris , and Exaud, in particular.
The team at Masengota safaris are extremely friendly and accommodating. The guides for safari(Selous Game Reserve and Mikumi National park), Maasai village and city tours were helpful and professional. Would highly recommend for a fantastic holiday in Tanzania. and I will always be happy using this company again. Mokimoh you're superb and highly appreciated by unique and best plan you offered
had dreamed of this trip for more than 14 years and it did not disappoint! I read reviews and see that others are very happy with their guides, but I have to say unless they were lucky enough to get Said , they did not have the best! He was knowledgeable, patient, indulgent, interesting, so much fun, and made my trip that much better. He was kind enough to teach me some Swahili. He definitely has a fan club with all five of us . Masengota Safaris overall was wonderful and I will definitely use them again next time!
Our driver Elisante found the big five and many other species, He managed to position the car so we could follow the animals in many different situations: hunting, eating, sleeping, making love - the whole palette. Thank you Elisante so much for a wonderful experience and Mokimoh for the great plan you advised us. We will not forget it!
The team at Masengota safaris are extremely friendly and accommodating. The guides for safari and city tours were helpful and professional. Would highly recommend for a fantastic holiday in Tanzania. and I will always be happy using this company again. Hamza you're superb and highly appreciated🇹🇿
We had a fabulous time especially because of Hamza our wonderful guide and driver. His driving was exemplary, safe and considerate. The vehicle was clean and well organized. His flexibility allowed us to see and experience amazing sights including the wildebeest migration. We just loved him! The accommodation was for the most part fabulous. We particularly loved the Maramboi tented lodge, the Endoro lodge and the Mbugani mobile camps.
We saw all the key Northern Tanzania sites such as Tarangire, Lake Natron, Lake Manyara National park, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Ndutu. We stayed in very nice high end lodges and tented camps. Hamza and Elisante were our guides and we would highly recommend them. They knew where to find animals even in trackless areas. They are very good driver, care and attentive too. Again we have had great time to discover about Maasai villages near Arusha and Town tours and beach experience in Zanzibar Island was excellent and superb , we learnt a lot and having fun at the same.
Our safari was great!!!! The communication with Masengota Safaris was highly professional. I always received a response within minutes. Our driver Saidi picked us up on time and drove very professionally. He is full of wisdom, street smarts, and humor. We really enjoyed Said for the entire 3 days of our safari. We saw the Big 5, and had a great experience overall. Please request Saidi as your safari guide and you will be entertained the entire time. Thank you Masengota for an incredible safari and unforgettable one in my lifetime!. I highly recommend Masengota Safari because They went beyond my expectation.
I had a great experience with Masengota Safaris. They were flexible with the schedule and arrived on time. The driver had a great eye - he was always noticing wildlife that I would have missed. He was willing to stop and wait for me to finish taking photos, for as long as I wanted. He had a relaxed, pleasant attitude and had lots of wildlife knowledge to share. I recommend this company.
Fabulous family safar! Rama and Hamza were great guides, adjusting to our preferences and getting on last minute village tours and hot air balloon rides. They expertly fixed 3 flat tires we got - completely normal, as I understand. Our 9 and 11 year old kids were entertained and didn’t complain about lack of time to play on their iPads. A relaxing and scenic vacay with details taken care of by Masengota!
The trip was very well planned and organized. The guides were experienced and friendly and made their best to accommodate every request that we had. We visited several national parks, tribes and villages. One of the best trips of my life! Thank you!!
We took part in a 5-day safari tour, where Hamza was our guide. He did his best to answer all our questions and fulfill all our requests. During the safari, he went above and beyond to make sure we had as many experiences as possible, for which we will be forever grateful, as we gained unforgettable memories! A huge thank you to Hamza from us as well! I hope we meet again!
Amazing staff. I have traveled a lot and they take maximum care of tourists. Incredible price and hotels to our needs. The best of the safari trip with masengota
We had a wonderful trip to Selous / Nyerere national park with Moki and Said in June 2022 (I completely forgot to finalize my review last year). Moki took wonderful care of us during the drive from Dar es Salaam to Selous and during the stay at the National Park and made sure we had everything we needed. Said was so knowledgeable and answered all our questions patiently. We would book a trip with Masengota anytime again and can only recommend it.
We climbed Kilimanjaro, did Ngorongoro Crater safari and visited several locations in Arusha including an art gallery and lake Diluti. This was a fantastic once in a lifetime experience and I’ll definitely be back to Tanzania with these guys. Moki and Hamza are excellent tour guides who really went the extra mile to ensure we had a fantastic trip. Everything was organised for us including trips from airport to airport. Fantastic trip and service at a very reasonable price would definitely recommend these guys if you are planning a trip to Tanzania.
Can't thank Masengota safaris enough for their excellent service and superbly organised trek up Kilimanjaro. Our trip to Ngorongoro crater was also amazing! The staff at Masengota went above and beyond to make sure our holiday was brilliant. Would recommend!
Stay of 2 unforgettable days. We shared some great moments. Many thanks to our French driver and interpreter guide who answered our questions and made us discover the world of wild animals in their natural environment. Recommended experience to share with this agency.
That was a very good experience and Simon was the best guide we could imagine! I hope we will see each other next time in Serengeti.
