Our favourite safari lodges and tented camps

Nyikani Central Serengeti Camp#

Location: Seronera, Central Serengeti Why we love it: Formerly known as Chaka Camp, Nyikani offers a close-to-nature experience without skimping on quality. You get spacious canvas tents with real beds, flush toilets, and great food plus prime access to wildlife year-round.

Marera Valley Lodge – Karatu (near Ngorongoro)#

Location: Between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater Why we love it: With large stone cottages, a pool, beautiful gardens, and views over the valley, this is a peaceful base for crater tours. Clients always mention the food — fresh, plentiful, and made with love.

What are your favourite Kilimanjaro routes, campsites, or acclimatization strategies — and why?

1.Lemosho Route – 8 Days#

Why it’s a favorite: This is hands-down the best all-round route. It combines high success rates (90%+), spectacular scenery (Shira Plateau, Barranco Wall, Lava Tower), and excellent acclimatization with “climb high, sleep low” opportunities.

  • Long, gradual ascent = better acclimatization

  • Less crowded than Marangu or Machame (especially early days)

2. Northern Circuit Route – 9 Days#

Why it’s a favorite: The longest and quietest route on Kilimanjaro — perfect for those who want solitude, scenery, and the highest possible summit success rate.

  • 360-degree circumnavigation of the mountain

  • More gradual acclimatization over 9 days

  • Unique views from the rarely used northern slopes

3.Machame Route – 7 Days#

Why it’s a favorite: The most popular route, and for good reason: dramatic scenery, good acclimatization if done over 7 days (not 6), and a mix of challenging and rewarding terrain.

  • Classic sights like the Shira Plateau and Barranco Wall

  • Good rhythm of elevation gain and rest

  • Campsites are in spectacular locations

What moments or parts of the mountain do you still find magical — even after climbing hundreds of times?

1. Sunrise at Stella Point#

After hours of climbing in darkness, cold, and silence suddenly, the black sky begins to shift. A deep indigo glow appears behind Mawenzi. Then a sliver of sun rises and in seconds, the ice around you turns **gold, rose, and blue **all at once. Even the toughest trekkers go silent. Every time I reach Stella Point and turn to face the sun breaking over the clouds below, it reminds me: this mountain doesn’t care how many times you’ve climbed it. It will humble you again and again.

2. The Barranco Wall#

When clients first see the Barranco Wall, they gasp: "We’re climbing THAT?" But step by step — scrambling, leaning into the rock, helping each other up they do it. And when they reach the top? Every single time, someone throws their arms up and yells, “I can’t believe I just did that!” It’s not just the view that’s magical we love watching people overcome fear and surprise themselves.

Real stories about how we support our clients

This is about the day our head guide Julius Minja and his assistant, Josephat helped a solo Asian climber. It was summit night on Kilimanjaro. Temperatures had dropped well below freezing, and winds were cutting across the slope like razors. One of our climbers, a solo traveler from Korea, began to slow down dramatically at about few meters before reaching Stella Point. She was shivering, disoriented, and on the edge of turning back. But our head guide, Julius, had been watching her closely for the last hour. He stepped in quietly, wrapped his own down jacket over her shell, and radioed for hot ginger tea to be sent up from Barafu by one of summit porters. Julius’ assistant guide gently adjusted her pace 10 steps, then rest. No pressure, just steady encouragement. For the next two hours, the team literally flanked her one on each side, making sure she drank water, breathed deeply, and felt supported every step. And just before 6:00 AM, as the sun spilled fire across the glaciers, she stepped onto Stella Point tears in her eyes, whispering, *“I wouldn’t have *

Unforgettable Rongai Route + Safari Experience

Chief's Tours provided a seamless and memorable experience. We chose the Rongai route for our Kilimanjaro climb in late March, and the quiet northern approach was exactly what we hoped for. Our guide, Edward, had great energy and patience. The entire support team was efficient—tents always ready, warm meals served on time, and lots of encouragement on summit day. We followed this up with a 5-day safari that took us through Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro. Our safari guide had incredible knowledge and knew where to find lions and elephants. It felt personal and unrushed. I'd go with Chief’s Tours again in a heartbeat.

Truly the Adventure of a Lifetime!

My experience climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with Chief’s Tours was nothing short of extraordinary. As a solo female traveler, I was initially nervous about the logistics, safety, and overall experience. But right from my first WhatsApp conversation with Adidas, I felt in good hands. He patiently answered all my questions, offered gear rental options, and helped me join a small group with two other hikers who were also trekking the Machame route. Our guide, Josephat, was phenomenal — patient, attentive, and full of encouragement. I never felt rushed or pressured. He emphasized the importance of “pole pole” (slowly, slowly), and this made all the difference. On summit night, when I doubted myself in the freezing cold, it was Josephat’s calm voice and firm reassurance that helped me push through. The support team was just as impressive. The porters were kind and full of life, often singing as they passed us on the trail. Our cook somehow prepared delicious meals with fresh vegetables and local ingredients — a hot bowl of soup after a day’s hike was pure heaven. The attention to safety was also remarkable. Daily health checks, oxygen saturation readings, and reminders to hydrate were consistent and professional. I felt supported every step of the way. When we reached Uhuru Peak, it felt like a victory we all shared — not just mine, but one made possible by a hardworking, joyful, and incredibly dedicated team. Back in Moshi, I stayed at Kilele Lodge, also run by Adidas. It was clean, safe, and a perfect place to rest post-trek. I even got a surprise visit from the team who brought me a “Congratulations” cake! Chief’s Tours isn’t just a trekking company — it’s a community. I made new friends, overcame personal fears, and achieved a dream. I wouldn’t climb Kilimanjaro with anyone else. Thank you to everyone who made this journey unforgettable!

Best group trip I've ever been on!

Chief’s Tours blew me away with their organization, warmth, and attention to detail. I joined as part of a university alumni group. None of us were seasoned hikers, but somehow, we all made it to Uhuru Peak. The crew treated us like family. The meals were hot, hearty, and surprisingly diverse (they even managed to cater to my dairy-free diet). Our guide Frank had stories for days, and he always checked in on how we were feeling. After the trek, we joined a short safari—seeing lions lazing in Serengeti grass was surreal. Will 100% be back!

Efficient, compassionate, and experienced team

From the airport pickup to the final drop-off at Kilimanjaro International, everything was on point. I trekked with my adult son, and we both were impressed by the professionalism of Chief’s Tours. They gave us detailed briefings, checked our gear, and their rental equipment was in good shape. The porters were incredible—always cheerful and somehow faster than the rest of us. We also did a 2-day safari after descending, and our driver Dhili had an eagle eye. My son spotted a leopard thanks to him. Couldn’t have asked for more.

Chief’s Tours Made Our Dream Safari & Kili Trek Come True!

I recently returned from a combo trip with Chief’s Tours: a 6-day Kilimanjaro Lemosho trek followed by a 4-day safari in Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro. The mountain experience was mind-blowing—the guides were safety-focused and paced the group perfectly. They adjusted daily schedules based on how we were feeling and made sure we were eating and drinking enough. Our cook, Hamisi, made mouthwatering meals that we still talk about! After Kili, the safari was pure magic. Our guide Dilli was incredibly knowledgeable, pointing out everything from a lion hunt to a cheetah with cubs. We stayed in gorgeous tented camps with unforgettable sunset views. Chief’s Tours delivered on everything they promised. Could not recommend them more highly!

Wonderful Team, Unforgettable Climb

As a solo traveler in my late 50s, I had some nerves about attempting Kilimanjaro. But Chief’s Tours put all of those worries to rest. From the moment I landed, I was taken care of with professionalism and genuine warmth. I stayed at Kilele Lodge before the trek, and it was clean and cozy with great food. During the climb, my guides Joseph and Palancho were attentive and kind—they struck the perfect balance of motivating without pushing. On summit night, they paced me through tough moments and helped me reach Uhuru just as the sun came up. It’s a memory I’ll carry forever. I’m so grateful for Chief’s Tours’ outstanding crew and can wholeheartedly recommend them.

Truly unforgettable trek and safari!

Our journey with Chief's Tours was seamless from start to finish. My partner and I did the 7-day Machame route followed by a 3-day safari to Tarangire and Ngorongoro. The guides—Calvin and Joseph—were seasoned pros. We felt well-informed and in safe hands every day. What stood out was the team’s energy, their enthusiasm, and their constant encouragement. Post-trek, the safari offered a relaxing switch—excellent wildlife viewing, particularly in the crater where we saw a black rhino from a distance. Highly recommend!

Unmatched Kilimanjaro Trek – Simply Perfect!

My trek up Kilimanjaro with Chief's Tours was one of the most rewarding adventures of my life. I chose the Machame Route and was guided by the incredible Jackson and Emmanuel. The experience was seamless from start to finish. Our porters were outstanding—they set up our tents and prepared hot meals with care every day. The guides conducted daily health checks and made sure we were feeling strong for each leg of the journey. Summit night was a real challenge, but Jackson’s calm encouragement helped me push through. Standing on Uhuru Peak was emotional—I couldn’t have done it without this team. Highly recommend Chief’s Tours if you’re looking for a professional, well-organized trek with a team that feels like family.

Perfectly Executed Kili + Safari Adventure

We booked a private tour with Chief’s Tours after hearing good things online, and they exceeded every expectation. Our 7-day Machame trek was well-paced and incredibly well supported. Porters were efficient, friendly, and worked so hard—we couldn’t believe the meals we were served on the mountain. Jeff, our cook, even made fresh pancakes at 4,000 meters! Our guides Nicholas and Freddy were experts—they conducted regular health checks and shared deep knowledge about the flora and fauna. After the trek, we had a fabulous 3-day safari with Shirima. We saw leopards, elephants, and hippos, and stayed at beautiful lodges in Ngorongoro and Karatu. Chief’s Tours handles logistics perfectly and treats clients like family.

Fantastic trek with Chief Tours

I did the Rongai route with two friends in April 2025. From the moment we landed, Chief’s Tours handled everything, including gear rental and hotel stays. The mountain crew was fantastic. Our guide Simon knew how to keep us motivated and helped me manage altitude symptoms. We summited on a clear morning—truly unforgettable. After Kilimanjaro, we went on a 4-day safari. Highlights included a leopard sighting in the Serengeti and rhinos in the Crater. Everything was well-organized, from meals to accommodation. A great trip overall—authentic and smoothly executed.

An Amazing, Supportive Climb – Highly Recommended!

Climbing Kilimanjaro had been a dream of mine for years. I chose the Marangu route and couldn’t have asked for a better support system than Chief’s Tours. Our group was small—just four of us—and the guides, Adidas and Frank, were outstanding. They provided detailed daily briefings, checked on our health constantly, and created a really positive team atmosphere. The hut accommodations were clean and cozy, and the food was excellent. Even when I was struggling with altitude on day four, they helped me breathe deeply, stay hydrated, and keep a steady pace. The emotional support they gave was just as powerful as the physical help. Thank you to everyone at Chief’s for making this journey so meaningful.

Kilimanjaro + Safari Combo – Flawless!

My experience with Chief's Tours was unforgettable. I chose the Lemosho Route for my Kilimanjaro climb, and from the moment I arrived at Selig Hotel, I felt welcomed and taken care of. The team was incredibly well-organized, and our guides provided daily health checks and thoughtful advice to help us acclimate safely. Our porters were true heroes, rushing ahead to set up tents and prepare meals before we arrived at each camp. Summit night was the most challenging part, but our guide was a steady and encouraging presence, pushing us just enough while being extremely attentive. Reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise was beyond magical – I cried tears of joy. After the climb, I joined their 3-day safari through Serengeti and Ngorongoro. The vehicle was comfortable, the food was top-notch, and the guide's knowledge of wildlife was incredible. We saw lions, elephants, giraffes, and even a leopard lounging in a tree. The attention to detail from Adidas and his team is truly world-class. They even arranged airport transfers and made sure we had warm showers after the trek. This trip changed me – both physically and emotionally. Thank you, Chief’s Tours, for the trip of a lifetime!

Unforgettable Kilimanjaro Trek with a Fantastic Team

I cannot express how grateful I am for the incredible experience I had with Chief’s Tours during my 7-day Kilimanjaro trek. From the moment I landed in Tanzania, everything was taken care of — airport pickup, equipment checks, pre-climb briefings, and accommodation. Adidas and his team were warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what they do. I had some nerves about the altitude and physical challenge, but the guides — especially Jackson and Frank — were patient, incredibly knowledgeable, and deeply encouraging throughout the climb. We followed the Machame route, and each day brought breathtaking views and well-paced hikes. The porters truly amazed me — carrying heavy loads up and down steep trails with a smile on their faces, and somehow still managing to have our tents set up before we arrived. Our meals were delicious and filling, and even as a vegetarian, I was well-fed with thoughtful dishes that kept my energy up. The summit night was the most demanding experience of my life, but also the most rewarding. I will never forget reaching Uhuru Peak as the sun rose over Africa — a moment I will cherish forever. What stood out most was how much the entire Chief’s Tours team cared not just about the logistics, but about our well-being and success. They checked our oxygen levels daily, reminded us to go “pole pole” and drink water constantly, and offered quiet motivation when things got tough. This wasn’t just a guided trek; it felt like being part of a family. I’ve never felt so supported, encouraged, and uplifted on a trip. I wholeheartedly recommend Chief’s Tours to anyone considering a Kilimanjaro climb. Their combination of professionalism, warmth, and dedication is second to none. Asante sana to the whole team — I’ll be back for a safari next!

Amazing Kilimanjaro summit and safari follow-up

The Lemosho route was stunningly beautiful and a great choice for our first high-altitude trek. I traveled with my girlfriend and we were both a bit anxious about altitude sickness, but our guide Jackson was incredibly supportive. They did health checks twice a day, and adjusted our pace when needed. After summiting, we rested a day before heading out to Tarangire and Lake Manyara. Our safari guide, Shirima, was funny and full of facts—he really made those game drives memorable. Seeing elephants up close was a highlight for me.

A trip that outdid all expectations

I’ve done guided hikes before, but nothing like this. Chief’s Tours were responsive and thorough even before we landed. Once in Moshi, they helped us get sorted with any missing gear and gave a detailed orientation. On the mountain, the pace was perfect—not too fast, not too slow—and the guides knew exactly how to encourage us. After we returned, we enjoyed two days of wildlife viewing and relaxing. The tented camp near Serengeti felt like something out of a movie, complete with hyena calls in the distance. Full marks to the team!

Top-Notch Service on the Roof of Africa

Climbing Kilimanjaro was a bucket list adventure for me, and Chief’s Tours made it one of the best travel experiences of my life. I was initially overwhelmed by all the logistics and companies to choose from, but after emailing back and forth with Adidas, I quickly felt reassured that I was in capable hands. His communication was prompt, clear, and friendly. What sealed the deal for me was how much the company prioritizes their staff and community — it’s clear that Chief’s Tours is built on real values. The trek itself was outstanding. I chose the Lemosho route, which gave our group a perfect mix of scenery, acclimatization, and challenge. Our guide, Nicholas, was a rockstar — calm, focused, full of knowledge about the flora, fauna, and mountain geography. His encouragement on summit night made all the difference. Every single person on our crew — from the porters to the cook (shoutout to Chef Hamisi!) — went above and beyond to make our experience unforgettable. We were given hot meals three times a day, clean water, and warm water for washing. The attention to detail was just incredible. Tents were always ready before we arrived, and there was even a designated person to help with our backpacks when needed. Our health was monitored daily, and I felt safe and cared for the entire time. When I had a mild headache one night, our assistant guide immediately offered help and kept checking in. It’s this level of care that really separates Chief’s Tours from the rest. I reached the summit with tears in my eyes, not just from joy but from gratitude to the amazing team who helped make this dream come true. I can’t recommend Chief’s Tours enough. They don’t just guide you up a mountain — they inspire you every step of the way.

After failing to summit last year, I finally made it—thanks to the incredible support from Adidas and his crew. From the moment we landed, he took care of everything with impressive attention to detail. Our gear was sorted, logistics smooth, and we always felt looked after. Summit Success with Unforgettable Support

I climbed Kilimanjaro via the Machame route in late 2024, and I can't overstate how transformative the experience was. From the first airport pickup to the final celebratory goodbye, Chief's Tours demonstrated why they have such a stellar reputation. The guides – Nicholas and Frank – were more than just mountain experts; they were attentive, compassionate, and endlessly encouraging. When altitude sickness threatened to cut my summit short, they adjusted our pace, kept my spirits up, and gave me the confidence to keep going. Our porters were true heroes. They raced ahead each day to set up camp and prepare warm meals, and always greeted us with a smile. I’ll never forget the night before summit – the whole team sang traditional songs around dinner, calming my nerves and creating a feeling of unity that I’ll carry forever. And the food? I never imagined I’d eat such satisfying meals on a mountain. On summit morning, we left before midnight and climbed through the darkness, headlamps dancing on the scree. Nicholas guided us steadily through the bitter cold, and at sunrise, we reached Uhuru Peak. I cried – from exhaustion, pride, and overwhelming gratitude. If you're thinking of climbing Kilimanjaro, do it with Chief’s Tours. Their attention to detail, safety-first approach, and sincere kindness are unmatched.

Top-notch organization and a successful summit

I climbed Kilimanjaro with Chief’s Tours in April and was thoroughly impressed. Adidas handled everything seamlessly—punctual, reliable, and well-organized from start to finish.
