Tarangire
Begin your safari with a scenic drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s most underrated gems. This park is best known for its vast elephant herds, dramatic baobab trees, and predator-rich ecosystem. Even during the dry early months of the year, Tarangire retains excellent wildlife density, especially along the Tarangire River.
Enjoy an afternoon game drive, keeping your eyes peeled for giraffes, buffalo, and lions resting in the shade. Afterward, check in at your lodge or tented camp for a peaceful night surrounded by wild sounds under the stars.

Ndutu (Serengeti)
After an early breakfast, head westward via the Ngorongoro highlands into the Ndutu region, nestled between Ngorongoro and the southern Serengeti. From late December through March, this area becomes the focal point of the Great Migration’s calving season, where over 400,000 wildebeest give birth on the open plains.
This is a thrilling time to be in Ndutu — not only for the abundance of newborn calves but also for the concentration of predators. Lions, hyenas, cheetahs, and jackals are all drawn to the action. You’ll arrive in time for a late lunch and an afternoon game drive in one of the most dramatic safari theaters in East Africa.

Spend a full day exploring Ndutu’s open plains, woodlands, and seasonal soda lakes. Game viewing is at its peak during this time of year — with easy-to-spot herds and predator activity often unfolding in front of your vehicle. The short grass plains offer perfect visibility, making this a favorite location for photographers.
This is also one of the few areas where off-road driving is permitted, allowing you to follow the action more freely. Expect to see lion cubs, active cheetah coalitions, large hyena clans, and thousands of wildebeest calves finding their legs — and avoiding the jaws of predators.
Return to your camp by sunset for dinner and a chance to reflect on the day’s wild drama.

Depart early from Ndutu and ascend into the Ngorongoro highlands for a game drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater, often called Africa’s “Eden.” This collapsed volcanic caldera is home to a dense population of wildlife, including black rhinos, large lion prides, hippos, and enormous tusker elephants.
Enjoy a picnic lunch beside a hippo pool before continuing your crater exploration. In the afternoon, ascend the rim and begin your return journey to Arusha, arriving by early evening — your 4-day Ndutu calving safari complete, and your soul full of unforgettable sightings.
