A glimpse into an exciting day of safari with us

🐘 How Izack Outsmarted a Charging Elephant — and Saved the Day "The wind shifted. The elephant froze. And in seconds—it charged straight at us."

Most tourists would panic. But Izack, one of our most experienced safari guides with over a decade of leading tours in the wild, didn’t flinch.

He’d read the signs: a mock charge, but one that could quickly turn real. He calmly asked the clients to stay quiet, motioned the driver to cut the engine, and slowly pulled out a faded Maasai shuka from under his seat — not to wave it, but to hold it low, like a herder would.

The matriarch paused. The tension broke.

She turned, grunted, and the whole herd followed her into the bush.

Later, over bush tea, Izack explained:

“She wasn’t being aggressive. She was warning us. I just needed to show her we weren’t a threat.”

That’s the magic of a real safari guide — not just knowing the animals, but understanding their language without a word.

When you're out in the wild, you want an Izack on your team.

What are your favourite Kilimanjaro routes, campsites, or acclimatization strategies — and why?

🗻 Favourite Kilimanjaro Routes – with Genuine Reasons

1. Lemosho Route (7–8 Days)

  • Why it’s a favourite: Most scenic, great acclimatization profile, less crowded in the first days.

  • Client experience: Forest, Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, and Barranco Wall — all major highlights.

  • Best for: First-time climbers who want a balanced, beautiful and safer experience.

  • Summit success rate: High (85–90% with proper pacing and support).

  • Optional upgrade: Private toilet tent + extra porter for photo gear or comfort.

2. Machame Route (6–7 Days)

  • Why we love it: Popular for a reason — varied terrain, dramatic views, affordable logistics.

  • Client highlight: The thrill of climbing the Barranco Wall and camping under the stars at Shira Camp.

  • Best for: Adventurous climbers who want great value without skipping scenery.

  • Key tip: Opt for 7 days to include better acclimatization with a night at Karanga Camp.

3. Northern Circuit Route (8–9 Days)

  • Why it’s ideal for serious climbers: Longest route, best acclimatization, very quiet and remote.

  • Client feedback: “Felt like we had the mountain to ourselves — and we still summited strong!”

  • Best for: Photographers, high-altitude trekkers, or those prone to altitude sickness.

  • Downside: More expensive due to duration and remoteness — but worth it for success and solitude.

4. Marangu Route (5–6 Days)

  • Why it’s practical: Only route with hut accommodation, great for rainy season or climbers who don’t want tents.

  • Best for: Older clients or those worried about the cold/rougher conditions.

  • Caution: Low summit success rate for 5-day version — we only recommend 6-day minimum.

  • Safari Soles Tip: Always advise clients to upgrade sleeping bags for the chilly Horombo and Kibo huts.

Favourite Campsites – and Why

Shira 2 CampLemosho, MachameOpen plains, incredible sunset/sunrise views over the Shira Plateau. Great for acclimatization. Barranco CampLemosho, MachameIconic view of the Barranco Wall. Clients always rave about the atmosphere. Karanga CampLemosho, Machame (7-day only)“Climb high, sleep low” strategy here makes this camp key for summit success. Kibo HutMaranguHigh camp for the summit push. Simple but warm huts. Third Cave CampNorthern CircuitRarely visited. Quiet, surreal, and often full of starry skies. Crater Camp (Optional) Lemosho, NorthernFor extreme trekkers — camping on the crater rim near glaciers. Cold but unforgettable. Not for all.

🧠 Best Acclimatization Strategies – That Work

✔ 1. Choose 7+ Day Itineraries

  • Routes with more than 6 days drastically increase summit chances.

  • Allows the body to adjust slowly to altitude — fewer headaches, better sleep.

✔ 2. "Climb High, Sleep Low" Principle

  • Example: On Day 4 of Lemosho, ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m) but sleep lower at Barranco Camp (3,900m).

  • This technique trains the body to handle altitude pressure better.

✔ 3. Slow and Steady Pace ("Pole Pole")

  • Our guides enforce slow pacing even at low altitudes.

  • Clients are reminded early: “The summit isn’t a race — it’s a rhythm.”

✔ 4. Hydration + Nutrition Focus

  • We monitor water intake, and our mountain chef provides high-calorie, easily digestible meals.

  • We include ginger tea, garlic soup, and energy boosters naturally to fight nausea and fatigue.

✔ 5. Optional: Pre-Acclimatization in Ngorongoro Highlands

  • Some VIP climbers choose to spend a night or two in Karatu/Ngorongoro (2,000–2,300m) before the climb to pre-adjust.

  • Improves oxygen saturation and mental readiness.

✅ What Makes Safari Soles Kilimanjaro Climbs Stand Out?

  • Licensed, Wilderness First Responder-trained guides

  • Oximeter checks 2x daily

  • Custom pace depending on fitness & altitude response

  • Dedicated summit crew (for motivation and safety during the push)

  • Private toilet tents and upgraded sleeping gear available

  • Add-ons: Safari extensions, Zanzibar post-climb beach rest, Kilimanjaro certificate + client photo feature on our socials

Real stories about how we support our clients

🛬 Client Story: When a Missed Flight Nearly Derailed the Honeymoon

In mid-July, a honeymoon couple from Canada had booked their dream safari through us — 8 days across Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and Serengeti. But due to a delay in Amsterdam, they missed their KLM connection to JRO and were re-routed through Nairobi, arriving 14 hours late with no bags. They were panicked. But our reservations team was already tracking their flight. Before they even landed:

  • We rebooked the first night’s lodge in Arusha (Gran Meliá instead of Lake Manyara).

  • We rearranged their route so they could still do Ngorongoro later, without losing a park.

  • Our airport rep met them with snacks, a SIM card, and warm blankets, knowing they were exhausted.

  • Laurent, one of our top guides, picked them up personally and said:

🙌 The Result?#

They cried — but this time from joy, not stress.

The Trip of a Lifetime

Feb 2026 • Solo When thinking about our Safari in Tanzania, we still wonder if everybody born there is born with a smile! From the planning of our trip with Jackson Thomas to the actual experience, everything was great. We still remember Andrew, the Camp Manager at Safari Haven Migration Camp welcoming us upon our return from our daily game drive as well as Chef Samwel, always checking in to see whether we enjoyed our meals. The biggest contribution was made by Baraka, our guide / driver who gave us knowingly insight into the habits of the countless animals we spotted. When sharing our daily meals, it was a pleasure to get to know more about the culture & customs of Tanzanians. Our visit to Tarangire Park, Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater is unforgettable. We thank each and every one who contributed to this wonderful experience.

A safari which exceeded all expectations

We were recommended Safari Soles by Ella McKendrick, a travel writer and Tanzania expert. And we were not disappointed. Irine arranged an excellent itinerary which included a Kilimanjaro day trip prior to a 6 day safari to Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. She was in regular contact with us from booking the trip right through to our final departure. The safari camps were tented with good facilities. And there is nothing nicer than watching an African sunset whilst enjoying a glass of “something”. Or waking up to a herd of Zebra and Impala on your doorstep. The vehicle was equipped with soft drinks, beer and wine with picnic lunches on the game drives. A safari requires a good safari guide and ours was Godlove, a really nice guy and extremely knowledgeable who could spot animals we would never have seen. A big thank you to him and also to Enock who was our guide to Kili and to Irine who made all the arrangements. We can definitely recommend Safari Soles.

Amazing first safari

We had an amazing Safari! Our guide Christian was awesome, and we really enjoyed our time with him. He is funny, friendly, and has an amazing ability to spot animals. On our four-day safari we saw all of the big five thanks to Christian! We definitely recommend Safari Soles, and we especially recommend Christian as the best guide we could have asked for!

Phenomenal experience of a lifetime

Our safari with Safari Soles was the trip of a lifetime and far exceeded my expectations. From our initial contact, when they helped with the planning, they were efficient and prompt with knowledgeable suggestions, whilst always respecting our requirements and budget. We were met by our guide Omar who was one in a million and quickly worked us all out and fed us with fascinating and informative answers to our multiple questions about the wildlife, the birds and the plants - he was incredibly knowledgeable and an expert in finding everything that we had hoped to see. He couldn’t have looked after us better throughout each day and we were privileged to have him. We stayed at Eileen’s Trees Inn where we received a warm welcome, then in tented camps in the Serengeti and Tarangire parks where the hospitality, the food and the location were amazing. We also did 2 incredible walking safaris. I can’t thank Safaris Soles enough for the most wonderful experience ever. I highly recommend them and will look no further if I have the opportunity to return.

Honeymoon Safari

My wife and I had an unforgettable honeymoon safari of 5 days with Safari Soles. The organization was smooth and they were incredibly accommodating in the run up to safari in making any appropriate amends to the itinerary and budget (we went for mid-tier accommodations, each were great). Our guide Kennedy was incredible - his attention to detail, ability to navigate us to incredible spots and scenes of wildlife, and spot animals with a sixth sense were all top notches. We’d be lucky to travel under his guidance again. He really went above and beyond each step of the way. N.b the photo was at the very end after a long drive (where he kindly dropped us off late to the airports). We truly witnessed everything we could even dream of. If this is a once in a lifetime experience, you’re in good hands with them and if Kennedy happens to be available, you’ll be in great care. What you’ll notice quickly in your research, and out on safari, is that there are 100’s of tour companies to choose from. What I now sincerely believe matters most (within budget) is picking one which has an excellent guide - that is the core of how great your experience will be. Truthfully, a private safari like this felt akin to a business class flight (some are better than others). Safari Soles & Kennedy provided us an unforgettable 5-star service, and I can’t thank them enough.

An Unforgettable Safari Trip

My friend and I traveled all the way from China and chose this travel agency, which truly made our entire trip an amazing experience. A special thank you goes to our guide, Ray. Not only is he tall and handsome, but he also gave us a steady and reliable impression at first sight and our days together have fully confirmed that feeling. When it came to planning the itinerary, he always asked for our thoughts first and then combined them with his professional experience to offer the most suitable suggestions. He’s very experienced, which put us at ease. He also has eyes as sharp as an eagle's always able to spot animals in the distance. On the first day at the crater, we not only saw many animals but were also lucky enough to see the rarest of all, the black rhino. At that point, we had seen all of the Big Five except the leopard. But the very next day in the Serengeti, Ray helped us successfully spot a leopard, and we finally completed the Big Five. It was absolutely thrilling! What impressed me most was witnessing a real lion hunt firsthand. From patiently stalking, to seizing the moment, to the final strike—we saw the entire process of the wildebeest being caught. The raw power of nature and its laws of survival brought an unparalleled visual and emotional impact. What touched us even more was his attentiveness. Several times when we were quiet in the car for a while, he would proactively ask if we were tired or if something was wrong such a thoughtful gesture. Thank you, Ray, for your companionship and professional service you helped make our African journey so unforgettable!

amazing and unforgettable experience

The safari tour through ‘safari soles tours’ was the best experience of my life. The nature of Serengeti, Tarangire, and Ngorongoro were great, and the animals we met were very beautiful. It's all thanks to Bryson. I made an urgent decision for my trip. So I didn't have enough time to make a reservation. In that situation, Bryson answered very quickly and kindly I asked for. The reasonable price was also very attractive. I still can't forget the impression of the safari. Thank you very much for leaving such memories. If friends around me go to Tanzania, I will introduce them to the safari soles tours. If I go again in the future, I will choose this company (Bryson) without hesitation. Someday I'll go again!

Amazing adventure for lifelong memories

Absolutely superb experience with Safari Soles on 3-day Ngorongoro + Serengeti from Arusha: surpassed my highest expectations. I was traveling in shoulder season, so Soles contracted my tour to an operator, completely understandable. Soles stayed in close contact, answered my questions; Bryson communicated with me at the start and showed up live at the end, to make sure all went well. The operator was fabulous: Lazaro is a master driver of the 4WD, plus a font of information on the fauna. He totally made the experience for my 5-pax group. Serengeti is vast, so a lot of driving is required, and a guide who has current information; Lazaro was in constant contact with other guides, live as we passed, on CB radio, and on cell; he also helped out when another company's truck got stuck in the mud. The unexpected rock star of the safari though was Erick Ngowi, our cook/camp aide/spotter/absolutely-invaluable-everything-guy. You say "cook" in the context of camping, and I think, mixing the granola. Hardly so. Erick is formally trained to cook on the road, carrying absolutely everything with him, from portable propane stove to cutlery, and he generated meals you would be lucky to have in a hotel restaurant: giant avocados stuffed with tomato salad, just one example. I didn't go on safari for the camp food, but I'd go back for Erick's amazing cooking--not to mention just being an easy-going, friendly, stand-up travel companion. I'm grateful to Safari Soles and contract operator--namely, Bryson, Lazaro, and Erick--for a lifetime-memorable experience and highlight of my time in Africa.

Top experience!

We booked a 6-day budget safari through Bryson. That is, a visit to Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngoro Goro and two days of Serengeti. During which we stayed three nights in a tent in Serengeti and Ngoro Goro and spent two nights in a lodge next to Lake Manyara. It was in a word Great!! We have visited many places in the world in recent years and done all kinds of things. But this was by far the most beautiful experience we have ever had. It's so indescribably beautiful! And incredibly well arranged thanks to Bryson who takes care of the safari down to the last detail. We were picked up neatly on time, the mail with the schedule we had received was executed exactly according to plan and Bryson was easily accessible at all times. The coordination between the cook Abdullah and the guide David/Simba during the safari was great. When we came back from safaris there were delicious meals waiting. The food is great, from freshly baked sandwiches to cakes and cookies for breakfast, lunch and dinner consist of at least 5 courses. Tell us your preferences and Abdullah will take everything into account, even gluten-free and other Food needs. David knew how to find all the animals during the safaris we did every day, he knows exactly how the animals react to people. Can even repair a jeep and is on time, which gives a familiar and safe feeling. When he tells us not to stay too long it was always because there was an even cooler animal to see. He builds the excitement well and makes this safari unforgettable. Booking a safari through Bryson and asking for David and Abdullah will ensure you have a golden team and a great experience. Really highly recommended!

Perfect Experience!!

I have been in shared safari tour with Safari Soles in January with lodge stay. Communication with Bryson and all the arrangements were perfect from the first day. He was very professional, made all the arrangements and informed in every stage. Our guide David Simba was great and funny guy who has deep knowledge with wild life, perfect sight to see all the animals and has great driving abilities which makes you feel safe. Our cook, Goefrey, has very talented hand and you cannot believe how he cooked all that stuff without a kitchen and everything was delicious. Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire are incredible places that you feel the wildlife, and all are far beyond that you can imagine. I totally recommend Safari Soles Tour, and my safari was really a lifetime experience with all help from them.

An amazing Safari

It was the trip of a lifetime. Everything went so smoothly from the start. I was in contact with a company representative called Bryson. He was super responsive, polite, tolerated the million questions I asked and went out of his way to make me comfortable. Also, our guide for the safari Mr. Joel was amazing that man is something else I highly recommend asking for him specifically. With him we were able to see all of the big 5 and many other animals. Overall, it was a great experience thank you safari soles.

Ticked off one from my bucket list.

We did the safari with safari soles to Serengeti and Ngorongoro for 3 days. We camped 2 nights at 2 places. The guide Floriani and the safari soles have a very experienced & well-equipped team to make your trip fulfilling, exciting, and safe. We spotted big four in large numbers, only big guy missing was Rhino, I have a reason to go back. 😎. The very tasty food, awesome view of African savanna, hearing hyenas and lions at dead night, a total entanglement with the wilderness.

Best experience ever!

This was the most amazing experience ever ! Everything was well organized. We did the 3 day Safari to lake manyara , Serengeti and ngoro ngoro. Malisa our driver and guide was simply amazing! Very knowledgeable about the nature, always willing to help us and facilitate us at all the e time. I felt h.more like a "kaka" (brother) than a tour guide. We saw all the big 5 and many more animals. If it was not for malisa we wouldn't. Very good eye!! We had together with us Macho, our chef, who was cooking for us very nice and tasty meals. Making his own fresh bread, even pizza for us. Very grateful for this is experience. We traveled with my boyfriend and his parents (first time camp and Safari for them) and they loved it! I recommend to everyone to choose this company. Very nice service and very helpful on whatever you need. A big THANK YOU!

Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater, trip of a lifetime

This is completely overdue, but most definitely well deserved. In our planning of a 10-day, around-the-world excursion, we researched many safari tour operations. Some of which were larger, highly reputable companies based in the U.S. However, we are so happy that we ultimately chose a locally owned and operated Safari Soles and would highly recommend them. Bryson was communicative and extremely helpful from the very beginning. He was thorough in answering our many questions, and his responses were always timely and friendly. Additionally, we planned our trip on very short notice, and with only 3 1/2 days to view. Bryson ensured that we could see and do everything we wanted to in that short time frame. He was incredibly helpful and accommodating and worked with us to create a custom tour in which we could view the Serengeti and the Great Migration, as well as Ngorongoro Crater. We were well taken care of the entire trip and were able to see as much as possible without feeling rushed. Impressive for the distance covered in such a short amount of time. The other tour companies would not accommodate this and said we could see the migration another time. We would absolutely recommend Safari Soles. They were by far the most communicative, accommodating and helpful tour company we researched and reached out to. We didn't have to worry about a thing, and in comparison, it was all very competitively priced. Bryson was so easy to work with and took excellent care of us. He still reaches out to wish us Happy Holidays, etc.! We're happy that we used a locally owned company, and we hope to return for another tour with Safari Soles. - We were picked up at JRO and started towards Arusha - One night in nice accommodations in Arusha - Off to the Serengeti, stopped and visited a Masai tribe, wonderful experience - We caught the Migration, as promised! - Afternoon in the Serengeti, immediately spotted a lion - One night in Serengeti lodge, beautiful lodge, amazing food - Day in Serengeti, then travel back towards Ngorongoro, caught the migration again! - One night in Rhino lodge, very cozy, great staff, more great food - Day in the crater, spotted two rhinos finishing off the big 5 - Travel back to Arusha and dropped off at JRO All meals, transportation, lodging was arranged and handled. (And at the last minute, well done, Bryson!) We didn't have to worry about a thing. Staff everywhere, including our driver, were very friendly. Again, this was on terribly short notice and in a quick turnaround. Safari Soles and Bryson could not have been more patient, communicative and helpful!

Once in a lifetime experience

We wanted to do a join-in safari rather than a private one that is offered by most tour operators. I have found Soles Safari here on TA and decided to book with them based on the reviews, recommendation and competitive offer. Communication with Bryson was very good from start to finish both by email and WhatsApp. He even assisted with our flights and our visas. All tour operators (including Soles Safari) use the very same Toyota Landcruiser 8- seaters with a pop-up roof that are superb, comfy, indestructible and will go through almost anything. Our driver / guide David Simba was amazing, always felt in safe hands and saw the big five! Unlike others we never got stuck in the mud thanks to Simba and the good thread on our tyres. Our Chef Dulla was brilliant who made us delicious 3-4 course dishes every day (cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner) including fresh baked bread rolls. We had an amazing time and a truly once in a lifetime experience. Whilst staying in camp sites, we saw hyenas, giraffes, elephants and buffaloes literally walking past our tent! Bring binos, pillows, some warm clothes, mosquito repellent with high deet content, 30-50 factor sun cream. Tip your guide & chef generously cuz they work really hard and deserve every single penny.

The guide Malisa was very good and super nice and professional, as was the cook, and we ate very well throughout the trip. We saw all the big five, too! I really need to give Bryson a round of applause and thank him so much for the way he set this up. I strongly recommend booking a safari with Safari Soles Tour!
