What I Look for When Recommending a Lodge#

  • Location & Wildlife Access: Proximity to wildlife-rich areas, minimizing drive time.

  • Comfort vs Value: Quality facilities suited to the client’s budget and preferences.

  • Service & Guiding: Knowledgeable guides, personalized attention, and warm hospitality.

  • Atmosphere: Lodge character — from rustic bush camps to modern luxury.

  • Sustainability: Support for conservation and community initiatives.

  • Client Fit: Matching lodges to traveller type — families, honeymooners, photographers, or adventure seekers.

What are your favourite Kilimanjaro routes, campsites, or acclimatization strategies — and why?

Favourite Kilimanjaro Routes#

1. Lemosho Route (7–8 Days)

Why it’s a favourite:

  • Best combination of scenic beauty, gradual acclimatization, and summit success rate.

  • Approaches the mountain from the western side — quieter for the first two days and joins the Machame Route near Shira Plateau.

  • Excellent variation in terrain: rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and glacier views. Highlights for clients:

  • Panoramic vistas on Shira Ridge.

  • Chance to acclimatize with “climb high, sleep low” days (especially around Lava Tower).

  • Ideal for first-time trekkers who want a comfortable but challenging experience. Key Campsites:

  • Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree) – First night, lush forest.

  • Shira 1 & Shira 2 Camps – Expansive views across the Shira Plateau.

  • Barranco Camp – Iconic setting beneath the Barranco Wall.

  • Karanga Camp – Crucial acclimatization stop before summit night.

  • Barafu Camp – Base for summit push.

2. Machame Route (6–7 Days)

Why it’s a favourite:

  • The “Whiskey Route” — very scenic and challenging, with strong acclimatization opportunities.

  • Excellent choice for fit clients seeking a classic, social Kilimanjaro climb.

  • Route layout follows “trek high, sleep low” pattern, helping adjust to altitude. Highlights for clients:

  • Trek through all major vegetation zones.

  • The Barranco Wall adds an exciting but non-technical climb.

  • Balanced duration and cost compared to longer routes. Key Campsites:

  • Machame Camp – Start of moorland zone.

  • Shira Cave Camp – Expansive plateau views.

  • Barranco Camp – One of the most photographed spots on Kili.

  • Karanga Camp – Great acclimatization stop.

  • Barafu Camp – Staging point for Uhuru Peak ascent.

3. Northern Circuit Route (9 Days)

Why it’s a favourite:

  • Longest route on Kilimanjaro — best acclimatization and least crowded.

  • Circumnavigates the northern slopes for panoramic views of Kenya and the plains below.

  • Highest summit success rate of any route (over 90%). Highlights for clients:

  • Ideal for serious trekkers who want a quiet, remote experience.

  • Time and route structure allow excellent adaptation to altitude.

  • Visits some of Kili’s less-travelled camps, providing solitude and exclusivity. Key Campsites:

  • Shira 1 & 2 Camps

  • Moir Hut Camp – Good acclimatization day hikes available.

  • Pofu Camp – Beautiful views across northern slopes.

  • Third Cave Camp – Peaceful overnight stop before summit approach.

  • School Hut or Kibo Hut – Final camp before summit.

What moments or parts of the mountain do you still find magical — even after climbing hundreds of times?
  • The stillness just before dawn on the ridge.

  • The crunch of fresh snow underfoot after a storm.

A glimpse into an exciting day of safari with us

The Night Madini Met a Huge Elephant#

It was very dark. Madini was driving guests back to camp after an evening safari. There was no moon, just the sound of the engine and insects in the bush. Suddenly, Madini slowed down. A huge male elephant was standing in the road. He was very big the kind of elephant that can easily push or flip a safari vehicle. He was alone, which can sometimes make elephants more unpredictable. Everyone in the car went quiet. Madini didn’t panic. He didn’t try to drive around the elephant. He didn’t shine bright lights at him. Instead, he calmly turned off the engine. He quietly said, “He was here first. This is his home.” The elephant lifted his head and looked at the vehicle. For a moment, it felt very tense. The guests were nervous. But Madini watched the elephant carefully. He understands animal behavior very well. He could tell the elephant was warning them, not attacking. Very slowly, Madini moved the vehicle back a little. After a few seconds, the elephant relaxed, turned, and slowly walked into the bush. Only then did Madini start the engine again. The guests later said they felt scared for a moment but they also felt completely safe because Madini stayed calm the whole time. This is why Madini is a top guide. He doesn’t just show animals. He understands them. He stays calm. And he keeps his guests safe.

Real stories about how we support our clients

When a Guest Got Sick During Safari#

A family came on safari to celebrate the father’s 60th birthday. Everyone was excited. Everything was going well. On the third day, during a morning game drive, the father suddenly said he felt dizzy and had trouble breathing. At first, they thought it was just the heat. But Madini could see it was more serious. He stayed calm. He stopped the vehicle in a safe place and asked the guest a few simple questions. Then he slowly drove back to camp while calling the lodge on the radio. When they arrived at camp, the team was ready:

  • They had already called a doctor.

  • A vehicle was waiting to take him to the clinic.

  • They had water and oxygen ready.

  • They checked his travel insurance details. Everything was organized quickly and calmly. He was taken to a private hospital in town. The doctors said it was a mild heart problem. Because the team acted fast, he was treated in time and recovered well. The team also supported the family:

  • One staff member stayed with the wife.

  • They gave updates all the time.

  • They changed the safari plan without extra charges.

  • When he felt better, they even brought a small birthday cake to the hospital. Later, the family said: “We were scared, but we never felt alone. The team took care of us like family.”

Good, better, Madini!

This was the perfect tour. From the beginning to the end. Our guide Frederick got us any information we needed long before we arrived in Tansania. He picked us up at the airport although it was a really bad time (01:25 am) and brought us to our first really beautiful hotel called forest hill hotel. we spent the first day of our trip at Materuni a little village at the Kilimanjaro mountain, where we met very nice people, had great coffee, got a lot of information about the community and had a beautiful hike to a waterfall. Then we got back to forest hill hotel. On the second day the startet with our safari at the tarangire national park where we experienced the beautiful Flora of the park and got so many animals to see. We spent the night at burunge lodge next to the lake, which was more than nice! After that we moved on to karatu and spent the night at farmers of dreams lodge. Beautiful hotel with the best food. On the next we headed to Ngorogoro crater which was really breathtaking. The unique landscape with the tons of different animals was absolutely amazing. We moved on to the Serengeti national park and spent the night at into-the-wild-luxury-tents a really beautiful accommodation. Next day again Serengeti was indescribable. We saw so many animals, absolutely unbelievable. Aswell as the next and last day in Serengeti. On our last day in Tansania we experienced a local village and the Maasai tribe and had awesome local food and drinks. All in all everything was perfect. Frederick was really amazing all the time. He supported us every second, got us to see so many animals and gave us tons on information. He was a real Entertainer and we felt comfortable all the time. 100% recommendation

A reliably organized, knowledgeable and cheerful safari operator delivering outstanding experience!

Our safari with Madini was exceptional from start to finish. The entire tour was perfectly organized, and he answered all our questions with ease—often adding fascinating explanations about the animals and their behavior. His cheerful manner, calm approach, and reliability made the journey especially enjoyable. The daily schedule was always well coordinated, and we arrived relaxed and on time at every accommodation. We’ve been on several safaris before, but Madini was by far the best guide we’ve ever had. An outstanding recommendation!

Our journey with Madini Africa into the wildlife of Tanzania was breathtaking. From the very first moment, we connected — we talked a lot and laughed together. Madini is incredibly knowledgeable and shares a wealth of information about the flora and fauna. He is very attentive, frequently checks in on how you’re feeling, and quickly recognizes your interests and needs. And he’s a fantastic storyteller, rapper, content creator, and so much more… Madini = Ambassador of Tanzania!

I recommend Madini africa. The guide is very pleasant smiling, funny. He gives a lot of information. He knows all the animals. He takes us to see the animals very closely. He chooses very beautiful hotels. He made us live a great experience, sleeping in a superb tent, dancing with the massai, going to a school to see the children. He puts stars in your eyes.

Unforgettable safari with Madini – like traveling with a friend!

Our safari with Madini was an absolute highlight! From the very first moment, it didn't feel like a typical tour, but more like an outing with a good friend who wanted to introduce us to his homeland. Madini is an incredibly warm, attentive, and experienced guide who immediately addressed our every need – always with a smile and plenty of patience. He also speaks both English and German, which made communication super pleasant. He gave us a wealth of fascinating information about the animals, landscape, and culture, while never losing his personal, relaxed approach. The safari vehicle was also top-notch – very comfortable, technically sound, and perfectly suited for long journeys. What particularly impressed us: After each safari day, the vehicle was thoroughly cleaned, so we could get into a clean, tidy vehicle every morning. This shows how much Madini values quality and well-being. Thank you for this wonderful time, Madini! It was more than just a safari – it was a true experience. A clear recommendation for anyone who wants to experience a personal, well-organized, and all-round beautiful safari!

One of the best experiences and vacations of my life!

It was one of the best vacations I have ever taken. An incredible experience in a beautiful country! The tour took us from Kilimanjaro with a visit to a local coffee producer to a short hike to a waterfall the next day in Tarangire National Park. We had two days here, which is also recommended to see the southern part. We were incredibly lucky to stand in the middle of a herd of elephants. This should continue to accompany us on the Sfari. We then drove through the Ngorongoro Crater. Here we saw a rhino very close up, which was incredible and very rare! We then left the crater again to embark on the biggest adventure of the Rsise. The Serengeti National Park. However, the route is a bit more adventurous and strenuous than you might think, as it only goes along a gravel road. For about 3.5 hours, it's not really possible to have a conversation and it's a bit noisy, but this shouldn't put you off taking the route! It is worth it! Thanks to the great connection of our guide, we always knew where to go and what to see. We were able to see all of the big five, which has an incredible amount to do with luck, weather and nature. But also something to do with the guide! You could tell from the first day that we were very lucky to have Madini as our guide. He is super polite, very considerate, speaks very good German and English and is keen to introduce you to the culture. And he wants to show you everything! So we were able to overtake one or two safari vehicles (some in very interesting condition) and in the evening we realized that we had met people from the same hotel again and that they had only experienced half as much as we had. The hotel selection was great and the end was very relaxed with a great hotel. We spent half the day on a bike tour and then enjoyed the sun by the pool for about 3 hours. This should not be underestimated as the tour went from highlight to highlight. You have to take it all in first. We thought we couldn't do any more and were proved wrong. Thank you Madini! It was incredible! If someone asked me, I would always say: “Book the trip with the people who drive for the big providers.” Enjoy your vacation with Madini. I followed the recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed

The tour I had with Madini Africa was what I wanted and experienced. The guide was so professional.

Me and my siblings went on a tour to Ngorongoro crater with Madini Africa Adventure, everything from the planning to the end was well handled with high professionalism. Our guide Feo was knowledgeable, amazing and friendly. He took us to places where we easily saw many animals and beautiful landscapes; he gave us detailed explanation of every animal that we saw during our tour. I even saw a rhino for the first time in my life. I recommend Madini Africa Adventure and I will travel with this company again.

When a dream comes true!

During the 8-day safari I was able to experience and get to know the breathtaking nature and wildlife as well as the culture of Tanzania. It was a very warm and open welcome. I was able to plan the safari individually according to my ideas and consult with the guide at any time. Communication was always reliable. My guide Madini (with very good knowledge of German) contributed a large part to this unique safari. He has a lot of humor, is always in a good mood, and has a lot of specialist knowledge about the animals, the landscape and the culture. I was shown a lot of personal commitment (a good eye for the special features). I felt like I was in very good hands at all times, both in terms of planning and on site, true to the motto 'Hakuna Matata'. For me this safari was an unforgettable adventure. In addition to the Big Five, I was very lucky and was able to watch a cheetah hunt. A bike tour through a small town was also great. I was able to learn a lot about local life (such as agriculture) and taste local food & drink. A safari in Tanzania is absolutely recommended! I would go on a safari with Madini Africa Adventure again at any time.

Madini, a truly unique guide, transforms every moment into a discovery

Going on safari in Tanzania means immersing yourself in a world where nature still reigns supreme. From the first light of dawn, when the sun sets the Ngorongoro Crater ablaze and illuminates the plains of Tarangire National Park, a feeling of pure adventure washes over you. The silhouettes of acacia trees appear on the horizon, and the savanna awakens before your eyes. At your side, Madini, a truly unique guide, transforms every moment into a discovery. More than just a companion, he is the guardian of the bush's secrets. With infinite patience and a keen eye, he spots a leopard camouflaged in the tall grass, discerns the tracks left by an elephant at dawn, or recounts the wildebeest migration as if he had been part of it. His intimate knowledge of the Tanzanian landscape and local traditions gives each encounter with wildlife a new depth. His unique sense of humor, reassuring calm, and contagious passion make every step of the journey an authentic and heartwarming experience. Aboard the gold 4x4, between dusty tracks, Madini shares anecdotes, legends, and bursts of laughter, bringing the savanna to life. At sunset, when the sky is painted gold and purple, you realize that this safari is not just a natural adventure, but a precious human encounter. Thanks to Madini, an extraordinary guide, Tanzania reveals its soul, both wild and welcoming. An Unforgettable Trip

An unforgettable experience

Our one-week safari tour with Madini Africa Adventure was an unforgettable and unique experience. Indeed, one of the most beautiful trips we've ever had. Fedrick gave us countless fantastic moments and animal encounters, more than we ever could have imagined. He tried to get the best out of us and always positioned us at the front so we had an unobstructed view of the animals. In addition to elephants, lions, and cheetahs (with babies) within a few meters, we were able to observe over 40 other animal species. Fedrick's open and entertaining manner, as well as his incredible knowledge of the wildlife, plants, and culture of the people of Tanzania, gave us a broad insight into the country, its culture, and its wildlife. The organization was top-notch, and we didn't have to worry about anything—pure relaxation. The car was waiting for us every morning, spotlessly clean and ready to tackle the next highlights. The lodges and food were also fantastic and exceeded our expectations. We can wholeheartedly recommend Madini Africa Adventure and would definitely travel again with Fedrick as our guide.

Another unforgettable and unique safari - Madini Africa Adventure is highly recommended.

I chose Madini Africa Adventure with friends again, because I was so impressed with the safari the first time. And what can I say, it was the best decision ever. Madini Africa Adventure offers an all-round carefree safari with great travel comfort. The LandCruiser was in very good condition, comfortable and attention was also paid to cleanliness after a day on safari. The long experience was noticeable in every respect. The lodges were carefully selected and met our expectations. We felt that we were in good hands and safe at all times. Our guide spoke very good German and English and gave us a great insight into the culture, landscape and wildlife of Tanzania. We decided to add some local activities to our safari like waterfall at Kilimanjaro, own coffee roasting, swimming in natural pools, bicycle tour and Masai village. We visited the well-known national parks in the northern part of Tanzania. Our individual wishes were taken into account very precisely and implemented in the best possible way. We really appreciate the many years of experience of our tour guide, because we experienced one highlight after another and were amazed. From large herds of elephants, an active leopard, a feeding pride of lions, a rhino up close, wildebeest migration to several cheetahs and much more we were able to experience. We enjoyed our lunch every day in the countryside, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and sometimes animals (for example near a herd of wildebeest). I had an unforgettably wonderful time, with lots of great new experiences and adventures that I will never forget. It was one of the best trips of my life. A safari in Tanzania is worth every penny and I would always choose a private safari again. Madini Africa Adventure is highly recommended, I would always choose this local and very trustworthy safari operator again. Thank you Madini Africa Adventure for this unique safari!

Madini Madini Madini! Danke für die einzigartige Safari!

We visited Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and Serengeti National Parks, and we had a perfect time together. Madini was a perfect guide for a safari—my first. We not only saw the Big Five, but much more. Madini is very experienced and extremely well-connected. Everywhere you go, you hear "Madini Madini." The excellent connection with the other guides made it possible, among other things, to find the best spots for animal sightings. When the drive got a bit faster, we knew that with a bit of luck we'd see something. And we did see a lot. All in all, a perfect safari with a great person, excellent accommodations, and a lot of fun. I can highly recommend a safari with Madini to everyone!
