Company History - Who founded it, and why?

Golden Trips Tanzania was founded in 2020 by Samson Simon, a Tanzanian tourism professional with a lifelong passion for nature, adventure, and cultural heritage. Born and raised near Mount Meru, Samson developed a deep love for Tanzania’s landscapes and wildlife from an early age. After years of working in the travel industry, he recognized a need for more authentic, locally-run safari experiences that cut out the middlemen and connected travelers directly with experts on the ground.

With this vision, Golden Trips Tanzania was born — a company committed to offering high-quality, tailor-made safaris and trekking adventures across the country. Whether it's summiting the iconic Mount Kilimanjaro, witnessing the Great Migration in the Serengeti, exploring the Ngorongoro Crater, or relaxing on the white-sand beaches of Zanzibar, Golden Trips ensures every journey is immersive, ethical, and unforgettable.

Today, the company proudly employs a skilled team of safari guides, mountain specialists, and cultural ambassadors who share Samson’s mission: to showcase the real Tanzania while empowering local communities and protecting its natural treasures.

A glimpse into an exciting day with us

At Golden Trips Tanzania, our guides aren’t just drivers — they’re storytellers, trackers, and guardians of the wild. Take this unforgettable moment led by Logan, one of our expert guides with over a decade in the bush. While exploring the Serengeti, Logan noticed a sudden shift in bird calls and movement in the tall grass. Trusting his instincts, he signaled the guests to stay silent — moments later, a lioness emerged, followed by two tiny cubs. Instead of rushing away, she lay in the open, allowing guests a rare, emotional moment of connection with new life in the wild. One traveler later wrote, “Logan gave us the moment we’ll never forget — we felt part of something ancient and pure.”

Each of our guides brings something special:

Gasper – Known for his sharp tracking skills and calm energy; clients often say he spots animals others miss.

Ombeni – A walking encyclopedia of wildlife behavior and birdlife; guests praise his patience and deep knowledge.

Olais – Charismatic and passionate about Maasai culture; he weaves local stories into every journey.

Logan – Expert in predator behavior, with a reputation for finding big cats without disturbing their space.

Dickson – A Kilimanjaro veteran and safari guide, blending mountain wisdom with a sixth sense for wildlife encounters.

Real stories about how we support our clients

During a recent 7-day safari, one of our guests began feeling unwell midway through their journey in the remote area of Serengeti. It was nothing serious at first, but our guide Gasper noticed their discomfort and immediately alerted our operations team. Within minutes, we arranged for a mobile consultation with a nearby medical camp while Gasper adjusted the day’s itinerary to prioritize rest and comfort without compromising the experience.

Behind the scenes, our Arusha office coordinated with the client’s travel insurance and arranged a standby evacuation plan just in case things worsened. Fortunately, the guest recovered quickly — and the very next day, Gasper surprised them with a gentle sunrise game drive followed by a private bush breakfast to lift their spirits.

Later, the guest wrote: “It wasn’t just the wildlife that made our trip incredible — it was knowing we were genuinely cared for. Golden Trips made us feel like family.”

For us, a safari isn’t just about wildlife — it’s about people, safety, and making sure every moment is supported, no matter what challenges arise.

Our favourite spots in Tanzania

Serengeti National Park Mara River (Northern Serengeti) Watching the Great Migration river crossing between July and October is a heart-pounding experience. The tension between wildebeests, crocodiles, and predators is pure, raw nature. No matter how many times we see it — it’s unforgettable.

Seronera Valley (Central Serengeti) Known as the “Predator Capital,” this area is always alive with lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Early morning drives through this region often reveal incredible hunting scenes or big cats lounging on kopjes.

Ngorongoro Crater Ngorongoro Crater Floor (Lerai Forest & Lake Magadi) We love showing guests the massive bull elephants with huge tusks in the Lerai Forest and the flocks of flamingos on Lake Magadi. The crater is a complete ecosystem — and seeing black rhinos in the wild here still feels magical every single time.

Crater Rim Viewpoints (Sunset Stop) The views from the rim at sunset are surreal. When the light hits the crater just right, it turns golden and misty — the perfect moment for reflection, photos, and a breath of awe.

Tarangire National Park Tarangire River (Dry Season, July–October) This river becomes a lifeline and attracts huge herds of elephants. It’s also where lions, leopards, and sometimes even wild dogs gather. Watching elephants interact here — mud bathing or protecting their calves — is a guest favorite.

Baobab Alley This stretch of ancient trees creates a dramatic landscape. Our guests often say it feels like driving through a prehistoric world. It’s especially stunning at sunrise or sunset.

Lake Manyara National Park Hippo Pool & Groundwater Forest The dense groundwater forest at the entrance is alive with blue monkeys, baboons, and birds. Later, near the hippo pool, we love to stop and explain the ecosystem — while watching hippos grunt and splash just meters away.

Tree-Climbing Lions Spotting these elusive lions high in acacia trees is a thrilling moment, especially for first-time safari-goers. We never get tired of this challenge — and the excitement when guests spot them is unmatched.

Lake Eyasi Hadzabe Cultural Experience (Sunrise Hunt) Taking clients on a dawn hunt with the Hadzabe tribe is always a deeply moving and eye-opening moment. The simplicity, skill, and connection to nature these people have inspires awe in both us and our guests.

Lake Shore at Sunset When the light reflects off the salt lake and flamingos fly past in formation — it’s quiet, stunning, and peaceful. A perfect way to end the day.

Arusha National Park Ngurdoto Crater Viewpoint Often called the "Mini Ngorongoro," it’s rich in forest and wildlife. The view from the top is breathtaking, and clients are amazed that such beauty is so close to Arusha town.

Canoeing on Momella Lakes Gliding past giraffes on the shore and flocks of flamingos on the water is always a surprise for guests. It’s peaceful and exciting at once — and a great alternative to traditional game drives.

Mount Kilimanjaro (for Trekkers) Shira Plateau (Machame Route) The vastness of the plateau, with views of the summit on one side and Mount Meru on the other, is a spiritual place. It’s often the moment trekkers start to feel the magnitude of their journey.

Stella Point at Sunrise Reaching Stella Point just before sunrise is emotional every time. The exhaustion turns to pure joy as the first light hits the glaciers and clouds below.

What are your favourite Kilimanjaro routes, campsites, or acclimatization strategies — and why?

1. Lemosho Route (8 Days) – Our Top Recommendation#

Why it’s ideal:

  • Best for acclimatization: Longest approach allows “climb high, sleep low” strategy.

  • Scenic diversity: Begins in lush rainforest, moves through heath, alpine desert, and glacier zones.

  • Less crowded: The western approach is more peaceful, especially in the first days. Key Campsites:

  • Shira 1 & 2 Camps: Open plateaus with sweeping views.

  • Barranco Camp: Iconic location with views of the Great Barranco Wall and southern glaciers.

  • Karanga Camp: Crucial acclimatization stop before Barafu (base camp).

2. Machame Route (7 Days) – Best for Adventurous Trekkers#

Why it’s ideal:

  • Scenic & popular: Nicknamed the "Whiskey Route" for its beauty and challenge.

  • Good acclimatization profile: Includes the climb to Lava Tower and descent to Barranco Camp. Key Campsites:

  • Lava Tower (acclimatization hike): Climb to 4,630m and sleep low for best effect.

  • Barafu Camp: Base camp before summit — early dinner and rest are critical here.

3. Rongai Route (6-7 Days) – Best for Rainy Season or Quiet Treks#

Why it’s ideal:

  • Driest route: Approaches from the north, ideal during wet months.

  • Gentle slopes: Great for those who prefer a steadier incline. Key Campsites:

  • Mawenzi Tarn Camp: Beautiful alpine lake near Mawenzi Peak.

  • Kibo Hut: Final camp before summit push.

Acclimatization Strategies#

  • Extra Day at Karanga or Shira 2: We recommend adding a day to help the body adapt and reduce summit failure due to altitude sickness.

  • "Climb high, sleep low": We build daily elevation gains with descents for optimal adjustment.

  • Slow & steady pace ("pole pole"): Our guides set a deliberately slow pace to preserve energy and oxygen efficiency.

  • Hydration & nutrition: We monitor water intake and provide warm, energizing meals high in carbohydrates.

Health & Safety Focus#

  • Daily oxygen saturation and pulse checks.

  • Qualified Wilderness First Responder (WFR)-trained guides.

  • Emergency oxygen and evacuation protocols always in place.

A glimpse into an exciting day of safari with us

From Chalkboards to Charging Rhinos: My Journey from Teacher to Safari Guide My name is Samson, and before I was leading travelers across the Serengeti and up the slopes of Kilimanjaro, I stood in front of a chalkboard as a schoolteacher in Arusha. During those early days, I spent weekdays teaching and weekends organizing school trips to nearby national parks. I loved watching my students' eyes light up as I told stories about elephants, lions, and the wonders of Tanzania’s wildlife. Over time, I realized something important—I didn’t just want to talk about the wild. I wanted to live it. So I took a leap of faith. I left the classroom and enrolled in Tourism Studies at the Open University of Tanzania. Three years later, I graduated, hopeful—but quickly discovered that breaking into the safari industry wouldn’t be easy. Undeterred, I pivoted. I joined the College of African Wildlife Management, Mweka, where I completed an intensive mountain guiding course. That led me to a respected company in Moshi specializing in Kilimanjaro climbs. I summited Kilimanjaro dozens of times. And every time I came down, my dream of becoming a safari guide burned brighter. Eventually, I returned to Arusha—my hometown—and landed a role at a small safari company that gave me my first real break. I quickly noticed that guides who spoke more than just English were in high demand. So, I took it upon myself to learn German—self-taught through YouTube and daily practice. That dedication opened new doors. A large, Dutch-owned safari company hired me as a German-speaking guide, and with them, I explored every corner of Tanzania—from Tarangire to Ruaha, Serengeti to Selous—staying in hundreds of lodges and creating lifelong memories for travelers from around the world. But my journey didn’t stop there. I wanted to do more than guide—I wanted to empower others. That’s why I started my own safari company—not just to offer unforgettable experiences, but to create opportunities for skilled Tanzanians, especially women who dream of careers in tourism. Today, some of my guides are professionals I trained personally. Others are top-tier experts I worked with in previous roles. Now, I lead a proudly Tanzanian-owned and steadily growing safari company trusted by over 500 travelers worldwide. I personally know the lodges I recommend. I know the guides I assign. And I’ve built a team that shares my values, my standards, and my love for this country. 👉 If you’re looking for more than just a safari—if you want an experience guided by heart, expertise, and local knowledge— Book with us. Let’s turn your African dream into a journey you’ll never forget.

Unforgettable, perfect!

The six days experience was even better than I thougth. When you see pictures on internet, you think it's unbelievable to see that, BUT it's real. It's look like National geographic in real live. Our guide Gasper had great eyes to see the wild, also from far away! He has a personal history being around the wild, so he can use this knowledge and experience well. Gasper knew the way everywhere, even off road. That produced spectacular images! I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

Fantastic, he knew to find all the animals and made sure we were constantly satisfied

My Safari experience with golden trip was 10/10. Thanks to our guide Gasper Lukumay we knew to find the whole bigfive and some more animals like the cheetah, kingcobra, silvercat and many more. When we had a question, he could give us all the answers. He made sure we had our pictures and were satisfied before we hit the road again. Communication with our guide was perfect. Everyday we could tell our preference at what time to start the next day, and made sure it was all clear.

Once-in-a-Lifetime Safari with a Personal Touch

Golden Trips Tanzania curated an unforgettable 7-day experience for us across Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Lake Natron. What stood out most was the level of attention to detail. Irene, our coordinator, checked in daily to make sure everything was going smoothly, and our guide Ombeni was not only punctual but incredibly passionate about nature and his country. He had names for nearly every bird and could distinguish animal tracks within seconds. One of the highlights was camping in Ndutu, close to the migration route. We stayed at a mobile tented camp, where we could hear lions calling in the distance at night. The chef, Paul, cooked fresh vegetarian meals tailored for us — such a thoughtful touch! Ombeni’s storytelling added richness to the journey — whether it was explaining hyena hierarchies or discussing climate changes affecting migration routes. Another beautiful moment was our visit to a Datoga blacksmith village near Lake Eyasi. Golden Trips provided solar lights and a water filter to the community, making us feel like part of something bigger. Golden Trips is more than just a tour operator — they’re cultural ambassadors and passionate environmentalists. Every penny we spent felt well worth it. Highly recommended for families, couples, or even solo travelers looking for a deeper safari experience.

Amazing experience and quick response!

In my opinion, it al starts with the communication which was unbelievable positive. Email reponse on all my questions were most of the time replied within a couple of minutes. About the tour and the guide: The tour was amazing, we visited multiple national parks (Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater) all with their own beauty. Also all the arranged accomodations were beautiful and clean. The tour guide Gasper is a local and grew up with the wildlife. This results in knowing where to find and to spot all animals with his amazing vision. Also his knowledge on all the animals was amazing to hear. Conclusion: An amazing experience with a great guide.

A Life-Changing Journey into the Heart of Tanzania

From the moment we stepped off the plane in Arusha, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism by the Golden Trips Tanzania team. Our safari journey began in Tarangire National Park, where elephants marched beside baobab trees and zebras dusted the horizon. Gasper, our guide, was the heart of the journey—his intuition, respect for the wildlife, and sharp eye meant we spotted more than we ever imagined. The Serengeti was the highlight for me. We'd wake up early and watch the plains come alive with movement—lionesses leading cubs to shade, giraffes moving elegantly through the acacias, and wildebeests blanketing the land. Golden Trips chose excellent accommodations: clean, eco-conscious camps that still delivered on comfort. The staff were always ready with a smile and delicious Tanzanian meals. One afternoon, after a thrilling leopard sighting, we visited a local village. It wasn't staged—it was genuine interaction. We shared stories and laughter, and even danced with the women and children. That cultural connection, paired with nature’s raw beauty, made the trip unforgettable. I came back not just with photos, but with a deeper understanding of Tanzania, thanks to Golden Trips’ thoughtful planning. Highly recommended.

Golden Memories in the Wild – A Journey We'll Never Forget

From the moment we arrived in Arusha, our experience with Golden Trips Tanzania was nothing short of extraordinary. Our journey began with a warm welcome from Joel, the manager, who patiently walked us through the itinerary over a coffee at our hotel. We immediately felt we were in good hands. Our guide for the trip, Gasper, had an uncanny ability to spot animals from what seemed like impossible distances. We started with Tarangire National Park where we saw herds of elephants crossing the river, giraffes browsing gracefully, and even a lion lounging in a tree. The following day took us to Lake Manyara, where our open-roof Land Cruiser gave us stunning views of flamingos and hippos. Gasper’s explanations were insightful, mixing scientific knowledge with personal stories from his years in the bush. In the Serengeti, we stayed at Sueno Lodge, where wildebeests grazed right outside our tent. The hospitality there was top-notch — hot meals, solar lighting, and attentive staff. Evenings were spent listening to hyenas in the distance and stargazing from our porch. One unforgettable moment was witnessing a cheetah hunt early one morning — Gasper positioned us perfectly and kept a respectful distance so as not to disturb the animal. Our last stop was Ngorongoro Crater, where we saw four of the Big Five before lunch. Gasper explained the Maasai culture as we passed several traditional bomas, which added a deep cultural layer to the trip. Golden Trips arranged a surprise sundowner for us on our final evening near Lake Eyasi. Sunset, traditional dance, and fresh local snacks made it magical. I wholeheartedly recommend Golden Trips to anyone looking for a deeply personal and well-executed safari experience in Tanzania. We will be back — and next time, with our kids!

This was a surprising and perfect safari trip

This was a surprising and perfect safari trip, and we have absolutely no regrets about the entire experience. If there’s a next time, we would definitely choose this team again. There are at least three standout advantages of this safari team: 1. Exceptional Value for Money We booked a 4-day, 3-night private tour at an unbeatable price that no other safari team could match. Despite the competitive pricing, everything from the vehicle quality to the guide’s expertise in animal spotting and extensive knowledge, as well as the owner’s meticulous control over the itinerary, was first-class. 2. Transparent Costs and Attentive Service The cost of our safari package was clearly itemized, covering accommodation, park fees, and transportation, with all expenses transparently listed. The team provided heartfelt and professional service, with our two guides fully dedicated to helping us spot animals and ensuring a great experience. 3. High Standards of Quality Control The safari team maintained strict quality control throughout the trip. We were able to communicate directly with the owner to adjust or add to our itinerary. The owner was highly attentive, providing a detailed briefing before the safari and a comprehensive review session at the end.

A Perfect Mix of Adventure and Comfort

This was our first safari and Golden Trips made it unforgettable. From the moment we landed in Arusha, our guide Joel was friendly, patient, and highly knowledgeable. He had a sixth sense for spotting wildlife, and his storytelling added so much color to what we were seeing. We explored Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and Serengeti – each offering its own unique landscape and animals. What stood out most was how smoothly everything was arranged. Accommodations were a pleasant surprise – especially the lodge near Lake Manyara with views right out onto the bush. We even spotted elephants from the deck! Our trip included cultural interactions too: visiting the Hadzabe tribe was a humbling and eye-opening experience. Golden Trips created a perfect balance between wildlife encounters and cultural richness. Highly recommended!

Golden Trips: The Epitome of Safari Excellence

This trip was our gift to ourselves after retiring, and what a gift it turned out to be. We’ve traveled the world, but nothing compares to what we experienced with Golden Trips in Tanzania. Our journey began with a flawless airport pickup and an overnight stay in Arusha, before launching into a whirlwind of landscapes and wildlife across Lake Manyara, the Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater. Our guide, Bariki, was punctual, humble, and incredibly skilled at navigating even the most rugged terrain. He knew the behavior patterns of the animals so well that we often found ourselves alone at sightings before other vehicles arrived. We watched a pride of lions feast on a wildebeest from just 20 meters away—it was surreal. The accommodations varied from tented camps to lodges, all immaculately maintained. Meals were fresh and varied—breakfasts before dawn game drives and relaxing dinners under the stars. I especially appreciated the team’s focus on supporting local communities. Our stay included a visit to a women-run craft cooperative that Golden Trips supports. The blend of nature, comfort, and social responsibility made this the most meaningful travel experience of our lives. Thank you to Joel and the entire Golden Trips family.

Honeymoon Bliss in the Serengeti

From start to finish, our honeymoon with Golden Trips was perfection. We were initially nervous about planning such a big trip from Canada, but Joel and the office team made everything incredibly easy. They helped customize our safari, with a mix of adventure and relaxation. We visited Lake Manyara, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater over 6 days. Every transfer was punctual, every lodge (especially Embalakai and Suenos) was clean, stylish, and full of friendly staff. What stood out was our guide Bariki—he made the trip personal. He had a great sense of humor, was a fantastic driver (especially on those bumpy roads!), and knew where to go for the best sightings. We saw elephants up close, two lionesses with cubs, and even witnessed a cheetah stalk a herd of Thomson’s gazelles. One night we sat by the campfire under a starlit sky listening to distant hyenas—it was magic. Meals were hearty, and we loved the little stops for coffee and local snacks. Golden Trips also surprised us with a bottle of wine at our last lodge to celebrate our honeymoon. It’s that level of care that makes them special. We couldn’t be happier with our choice.

Professional, Safe, and Utterly Magical

Our family of four booked with Golden Trips Tanzania based on a friend's recommendation, and wow — they didn’t disappoint. From day one, Irene walked us through options with patience and insight. The itinerary was a perfect mix of wildlife, culture, and rest. We saw more animals than we imagined possible: lions hunting, elephants playing in Tarangire, and even a cheetah teaching her cubs to stalk. Gasper, our guide, was phenomenal — calm, respectful, and so knowledgeable. The way he read the landscape was almost mystical. Every lodge was thoughtfully chosen, especially in Ndutu where we witnessed thousands of wildebeest. We also visited a Datoga village, and that cultural exchange was a highlight. The trip felt safe, smooth, and soul-enriching. Highly recommend!

Wonderful family safari

We had a wonderful family safari with Golden Trips Tanzania. We started in Arusha, then we spent a day in Tarangire National Park, followed by two nights in Ndutu, and finally, a day in Ngorongoro Crater. The whole team was fantastic—always available to address any request or concern we had, and it was clear that they were genuinely committed to making our experience great at every moment. We are especially grateful for our guide, Gaspa, who worked tirelessly to help us spot all the incredible animals on this safari, ensuring we had the best possible time. His expertise and dedication truly made the trip unforgettable.

Unforgettable Safari Moments with Golden Trips

Golden Trips gave us a safari experience that we’ll never forget. From our very first call with their team, the communication was seamless and full of helpful advice. We had been dreaming about visiting Africa for years, and their team helped shape our plans into a personalized, 7-day itinerary. Our guide, Deo, was friendly, deeply knowledgeable about the local wildlife, and attentive to our needs from morning to night. We covered Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and the Serengeti. Deo’s instincts led us to incredible sightings—lions just after a hunt, herds of elephants with their young, even a pair of elusive leopards lounging in a tree. We stayed at Osinon Camp and Suenos—both exceeded expectations. At Osinon, we fell asleep to the distant sound of lions, and the meals were among the best we had in Tanzania. The jeep was clean and comfortable, and Deo made sure we had cold drinks and time for photos. One moment I’ll never forget is watching the sun rise over the Serengeti—absolutely surreal. We ended our trip with a visit to a Maasai village, where we were warmly welcomed. I’ve already told my friends: if you’re doing a safari in Tanzania, Golden Trips is the way to go.

Wonderful Kilimanjaro + national parks safari experience with Golden Trips

Our overall experience has been incredible, exceeding all expectations. The service provided by Golden Trips has been of the highest quality, unbeatable. They are a company that is attentive to their customers at all times and always strives to excel in their service. We experienced this from the very first moment, as we interacted with Joel, the manager of Golden Trips, who was in charge of organizing our trip and communicating with us. The logistics and accommodations were first-rate as well. Our phenomenal guides for Kilimanjaro, Dickson and Noah, provided us with an experience that allowed us to admire the grandeur of the place thanks to their knowledge and experience, as well as overcome the challenges that this adventure entails. They, along with the rest of the team, accompanied and supported us at all times during the journey, and made it easy for us to successfully reach the summit of Kilimanjaro. And finally, Gaspar, our expert guide, made the safari a 10/10! Attentive and with an admirable knowledge of the terrain, he explained all the details and interesting facts about the animals and landscapes we saw on the tours. Thanks to his experience and commitment, we were fortunate to see a huge variety of wildlife in 5 days, including all the Big 5!!!

Knowledgeable, fun guides through Kenya and Tanzania

We had a great safari with Golden Trips and our guides Kulet (Kenya) and Ombeni (Tanzania). Kulet is obviously a very experienced guide, was incredibly respectful of the animals and other groups, and great at spotting animals. Ombeni was incredibly knowledgeable and was able to answer every question we had about the animals, country and customs. He is a very fun guy and a great dancer! Joel was very accommodating with us as our plans changed many times before the trip started. I liked that they presented several options for lodging and let us choose exactly which ones we wanted to stay at. Overall we saw everything we wanted to see including 3 black rhinos close up in Kenya and 4 in Ngorongoro crater (Tanzania) at a distance. Both the cars we rode in were very nice, obviously well taken care of, and our second car even had a refrigerated cooler in it.

Exceeded Every Expectation

Golden Trips delivered an outstanding experience from start to finish. The booking process was seamless, communication was prompt and clear, and every question I had was answered thoroughly. Once on the ground, we were met by our guide, Ombeni, who impressed us with his deep knowledge of both the wildlife and the local culture. We spent six days exploring the northern circuit and saw an incredible range of animals – even a leopard resting in a tree in the Serengeti. Our lodgings exceeded expectations, with warm service and surprisingly great food. What really made this trip special was the personal attention. We never felt rushed, and our preferences shaped each day. This wasn’t just a safari – it was a journey crafted with care.
