Perché ci fidiamo di loro
Beyond the Plains is owned and run by John, a highly experienced safari guide whose hands-on background shapes how the company operates day to day. With a team of around 15 sales specialists and 20 guides, they consistently present clients with a wide range of well-thought-out options across both Kenya and Tanzania. Their depth of knowledge is reflected in the quality and variety of offers, showing real understanding rather than a narrow, one-style-fits-all approach. A modern fleet of high-quality Land Cruisers, including vehicles customisable for photographic safaris and equipped with Wi-Fi, supports a professional, traveller-focused experience. Backed by strong reviews across multiple platforms, Beyond the Plains stands out as a serious, well-rounded operator in an industry still crowded with short-term, one-trick players.

Our favourite safari lodges and tented camps
Masai Mara – Where the Magic Happens#
Mara Sopa Lodge
Why we love it for our clients: Mara Sopa sits inside the Mara ecosystem with spacious rooms, forest surroundings, and one of the most consistent wildlife corridors around. Guests often see elephants and giraffes walking between cottages. It’s perfect for families because of its safe layout, large rooms, and relaxed atmosphere.
Ilkeliani Camp
Why we love it: A luxury tented camp with real privacy and elegant comfort. The raised walkways and decked tents allow guests to hear lions roaring at night without feeling exposed. Perfect for honeymooners and photographers.
Amboseli National Park – Kilimanjaro Views#
Amboseli Sopa Lodge
Why we love it: Positioned on higher ground, this lodge offers unmatched views of Mount Kilimanjaro on clear mornings. Guests wake up to elephants crossing the plains below. Its large swimming pool, Maasai-inspired architecture, and family-friendly setup make it ideal for multi-generation travel.
Why we love it: It sits right inside elephant territory. You don’t just go on safari here — the wildlife comes to you. Breakfasts often pause for elephant herds crossing in front of the dining room.
Samburu – Rare Species & Remote Wilderness#
Samburu Sopa Lodge
Why we love it: Perched high above the reserve, Samburu Sopa offers sweeping views and incredible sunsets. It’s one of the few lodges where guests can see reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, and gerenuk in the same game drive.
Elephant Bedroom Camp
Why we love it: This camp is for guests who want raw, authentic wilderness. Elephants wander through camp. You fall asleep to hyenas calling from the riverbed below.
Lake Naivasha – Gentle Safari & Scenic Relaxation#
Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge
Why we love it: Set inside a private sanctuary where giraffes, zebras, and waterbucks roam freely. Clients love the guided nature walks, boat rides, and peaceful lakeside sunsets. It’s the perfect break after intense game drives.
Enashipai Resort
Why we love it: For clients wanting spa, comfort, and space after safari dust. It blends wellness with wildlife beautifully.
Lake Nakuru – Flamingos & Rhinos#
Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge
Why we love it: Built on a hillside with panoramic views of the lake. Guests spot rhinos directly from their balconies. It’s the best base for flamingos, white rhino tracking, and relaxed sunset moments.
Nairobi – Safari in the City#
Ole Sereni Hotel
Why we love it: Overlooks Nairobi National Park. Guests have breakfast while watching rhinos grazing just beyond the runway — a world-class “only in Kenya” experience.
Serengeti – Tanzania Extension#
Serengeti Sopa Lodge
Why we love it: Ideal for clients combining Kenya and Tanzania. Spacious, elevated, and perfectly placed for year-round migration tracking.
Real stories about how we support our clients
It was supposed to be the highlight of their safari — a peaceful afternoon in Amboseli with elephants drifting through the swamps. But one of our guests suddenly felt unwell and clearly needed medical attention far from the nearest hospital. Within minutes, our guide had taken control. He calmly moved the vehicle to a safe location, reassured the family, and contacted our Nairobi operations team. At the same time, we activated the client’s AMREF Flying Doctors medical evacuation cover, which we always strongly recommend to our travelers. While the guest rested comfortably in the vehicle, our team coordinated everything behind the scenes — location sharing, airstrip clearance, and medical details — without alarming the rest of the group. Within a short time, the AMREF medical aircraft was on its way. The client was safely transferred to advanced medical care, and later that evening we received the call we had all been waiting for: they were stable and recovering well. What our guests remember most is not the illness — it’s how supported they felt. From the guide who never left their side, to the quiet efficiency of the AMREF evacuation, to our team calling the hospital until midnight to check on them — they knew they were never alone.
For us at Beyond the Plains Safaris, that is what safari service truly means.
Company History - Who founded it, and why?

In recognition of our excellence, Beyond the Plains Safaris was awarded Second Runners-Up –** Best Tour Operator in Kenya** at the Tourism Excellence Awards 2025.
A glimpse into an exciting day with us
It was still dark in the Masai Mara when our lead guide noticed something most people would never see — the faint alarm calls of birds that didn’t belong to the dawn chorus. He quietly cut the engine, stepped out, and studied the dust on the road. “These tracks are less than ten minutes old,” he whispered. While other vehicles rushed past chasing radio calls, he followed instinct — not GPS. Fifteen minutes later, we found her: a lone leopard mother lifting her cub across a fallen acacia tree, the sunrise painting gold patterns across her coat. There were no other safari vehicles. No crowds. Just silence, breath held, and the soft chirp of the cub as it disappeared into the thicket. For our guests, it felt like winning the safari lottery. For our guides at Beyond the Plains Safaris, it was just another morning in the wild.
Our favourite spots in Kenya
Masai Mara#
1. The Olare Orok River Bend This quiet stretch of river is where I often find leopards resting in fig trees. It’s peaceful, uncrowded, and feels like discovering the Mara all over again. 2. Paradise Plains at Sunrise When the early mist lifts and the plains turn gold, it’s common to find lion prides warming up after the night hunt. Clients always go silent here — the moment speaks for itself.
Amboseli National Park#
1. Observation Hill Lookout When Kilimanjaro clears at dawn, I bring guests here. Seeing elephants cross the swamps with Africa’s highest mountain behind them never gets old. 2. Enkongo Narok Swamp This is where elephant families gather in huge numbers. Watching them play and bathe is something I could do forever.
Samburu National Reserve#
1. Ewaso Nyiro River Crossing Points This river is the lifeline of Samburu. I love stopping where elephants come to drink and dig for water — it feels raw and untouched. 2. Shaba Border Plains Few vehicles venture here. It’s the best place to find gerenuk and Grevy’s zebra with dramatic red-earth backdrops.
Lake Naivasha#
1. Crescent Island Walk I still get excited watching clients walk among giraffes and zebras for the first time. You don’t feel like a tourist here — you feel like part of nature. 2. Hippo Channel at Sunset The golden light on the water with hippos yawning in silhouette is one of the most peaceful safari moments in Kenya.
Lake Nakuru#
1. Rhino Sanctuary Ridge Spotting a white rhino grazing quietly while flamingos color the lake below is something that never loses its power. 2. Baboon Cliff Viewpoint It’s the best place to understand the scale of the Rift Valley. Clients always ask to stop here again.
Nairobi National Park#
1. Ivory Burning Site Memorial This place carries Kenya’s conservation soul. It’s not about photos — it’s about understanding why safaris matter. 2. Athi Plains Section Where giraffes roam with the city skyline behind them. It’s impossible not to feel amazed every time.
